Legislation requires school districts to utilize a portion of their Title I funds to support parent involvement because parents have a right to be involved in their child’s education. The parent involvement activities are part of the district set-aside plan. The members of the district’s Title I Planning Team developed this plan
In Greenwood, our seven of our eight elementary schools receive Title I funds. There are multiple components of this program. You can access additional information at the Greenwood 50 website.
Parents are always welcome to contact the Title I Office at 864-941-5430 to obtain additional information or to offer suggestions for parenting events and/or Title I plans. If you would like to be a part of the school or district planning team for Title I, please contact your principal or the Title I Office.

When your child comes to a word they don’t know, they can decode the word using the sounds (sound it out), name the word, and then attach meaning. The context of the passage will help a reader get the meaning of a word once a word has been decoded.
This year, students will bring home decodable readers to practice using the sounds they have learned in class. To help your child at home, allow them to read out loud to you. If they struggle with a sentence, allow them to figure the sentence out and reread the sentence to you. Rereading the books will help your child become more confident and fluent as a reader.

Summary of Title I Plan for District-Wide Activities for 2022-2023
http://ed.sc.gov/instruction/standards learning/ As a parent of a student enrolled at a Title I school, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers and instructional assistants who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for the following information about your child’s classroom teachers and requires the District to give you this information in a timely manner:• whether the teacher is certified to teach the subjects and/or grade levels the teacher is teaching,
District Wide Title I Expenditures for 2022 2023:
The distribution of Title I funds to a school is based upon the number of students who qualify through the CEP program. The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a provision from the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 that allows schools and local educational agencies (LEAs) with high poverty rates to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students. CEP eliminates the burden of collecting household applications to determine eligibility for school meals, relying instead on information from other means tested programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families for free lunch.

These books are ones that you might take home and have one of your parents read to you. As you are reading, hold up a finger for every word on the page that you don’t know. If you have more than a couple of fingers raised, it is probably too hard.

1. Are there more than a few words you don’t know?
4. Is everyone else busy and unable to help you?
3. Are there just a few words per page you don’t know?
These are old favorites. They’re books you like to read for fun. They’re ones you might decide to pick up and read when you need a break from hard books or to practice reading with expression. Often it’s a book you’ve read before.
2. Do you understand some of the book?
Ask yourself these questions. If you are answering yes, this book is probably a “Just Right” book for you. Go ahead and learn from it.

Ask yourself these questions, if you are answering yes, this book is probably a “Too Hard” book for you. Spend a little time with it now, give it another try later.
JUST RIGHT BOOKS:
3. Do you know (can you understand) almost every word?
If we hope to develop students who choose to read in their free time, we need to help them love books while at the same time learn to deal with the vast array of reading material that comes in all sizes, topics, and difficulty levels. Below are some tips for students to help select books that are appropriate for their reading level.
2. Are you confused about what is happening in most of this book?
(Tentative) MER PTO Night
It isn’t too difficult one or two words per page that you don’t know. You can use this book to help you learn to read by practicing the strategies you’ve been learning.
3. When you read, does it sound pretty choppy?
1. Have you read it lots of times before?
2. Do you understand the story (text) very well?
