Greensboro Country Club Greensboro, North Carolina AN INSIDE VIEW EXCLUSIVELY FOR PLATINUM CLUBS®

Greensboro Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, is known as a distinguished and prestigious institution on local, regional and national levels. The club holds significant recognition within its community and among those familiar with upscale country clubs and golfing destinations.

Greensboro Country Club has a rich history that dates back to the early 20th century. Its origins can be traced to the vision of a group of local community leaders, championed by A.W. McAlister, who sought to create a premier recreational and social destination for the residents of Greensboro.

The club was officially founded in 1909, making it one of the oldest country clubs in the state of North Carolina. At the time of its establishment, the club’s primary focus was on providing golf facilities, as golf was gaining popularity across the United States. A 9-hole golf course was constructed on the club’s initial grounds to cater to the growing interest in the sport among the local population.

Thriving even through the challenges of the Great Depression in the 1930s, Greensboro Country Club’s reputation as an exclusive and prestigious institution continued to grow, attracting prominent members from various fields, including business, politics and entertainment.

During the mid-20th century, Greensboro Country Club played host to numerous prestigious golf tournaments, contributing to its reputation as one of the finest golfing venues in the region. The club’s well-maintained facilities and picturesque setting in the heart of Greensboro further bolstered its appeal to members and guests alike.

Over the years, Greensboro Country Club underwent several expansions and renovations to accommodate its increasing membership and evolving recreational interests. In the 1920s, the club extended its golf course to an 18-hole layout, and during the same period, it also added tennis courts and a clubhouse to offer more diverse amenities to its members. Whether newly constructed or freshly remodeled, each clubhouse has served as a sanctuary for generations of members.

GCC’s second location - Carlson Dairy Farms, a former dairy farm turned children’s day camp in 1957, is a stone’s throw away from the Greensboro Country Club in Irving Park. At this time, GCC wanted to expand their offerings to younger members and families. The Carlson Dairy Farms day camp had become so popular in the community that the Carlsons and the members of Greensboro Country Club saw an amazing opportunity to provide additional amenities to both memberships. The two merged into one in 1969, and today, the “Farm” - as it is aptly named - provides an award-winning 18-hole golf course, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool and charming clubhouse for the members of Greensboro Country Club.

Honoring Our Members: The 1909 Club

Greensboro Country Club members whose age and tenure at GCC equal at least 100 are members of the exclusive 1909 Club! These members come together at the Clubhouse twice a year (rotating each season between Irving Park and the Farm) with gusto to greet each other, talk, laugh, and maybe even have a dance or two. Shag is a favorite! The 1909 Club is one of the many cherished groups at the club, and celebrating them is a time-honored tradition and a joy.

Amenities and Facilities

GCC unfolds its story through the lens of two distinct campuses situated at Irving Park and the Farm. This unique dual-location approach showcases the club’s commitment to offering its esteemed members the best of both worlds, creating experiences that cater to a wide range of preferences and lifestyles. Both clubhouses are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, dining establishments, and spaces for both formal and informal gatherings, ensuring that members can fully embrace the club’s offerings, regardless of their location preference.

GCC boasts a golfing legacy that includes two distinct golf courses, each with its unique charm and character. With roots tracing back to the club’s earliest days, the Donald-Ross designed Irving Park course is a treasure trove of history and tradition. On the other hand, the Donald Steel redesigned Farm course embraces a more contemporary approach to golf course design. Nestled amidst rolling hills and serene vistas, the Farm offers a scenic journey that challenges golfers of all skill levels.

Two racquet sports facilities ensure that racquet sports aficionados find a playground that suits their preferences year-round with options for outdoor and indoor play. Regularly scheduled tournaments, leagues and social events provide ample opportunities for members to connect, compete and celebrate their shared love for racquet sports.

Greensboro Country Club members have two distinctive choices of swimming facilities. The Irving Park pool complex features two new pools - a family pool and an adult pool - as well as a splash pad for the little ones. The Farm Pool is a six-lane, 25-meter Olympic- style short course pool.

A newly renovated and new addition to the Fitness, Health and Wellness Center at Irving Park is a haven for members seeking a great workout or a relaxing massage. The new Youth Activities Center at Irving Park offers GCC children a place of their own.

Amenities and Facilities

Irving Park

The Irving Park clubhouse stands as a historic cornerstone of Greensboro Country Club. Situated in the heart of the Irving Park neighborhood, this clubhouse exudes classic charm and elegance. A $20-million renovation completed in 2022-23 stands as a remarkable testament to GCC’s commitment to providing an unparalleled experience for the members. This comprehensive transformation encompassed various aspects of the club, from the interior clubhouse to the outdoor aquatics facilities to the expansion of a brand new wing, bringing forth a new era of luxury, functionality and family-friendly amenities.

The interiors underwent a thoughtful redesign, embracing modern aesthetics while preserving the club’s rich heritage. From elegant dining areas to cozy lounges and al fresco dining, every corner was meticulously re-imagined to offer both comfort and sophistication. GCC’s diverse array of dining outlets, each carefully curated to cater to the varied tastes and preferences of its esteemed members. With a total of nine food and beverage options, the club offers a culinary journey that ranges from casual family dining to upscale, formal affairs.

8

An integral part of the renovation was the addition to the existing Fitness, Health and Wellness Center. Recognizing the growing importance of health and well-being, the club expanded its facilities to cater to the diverse needs of its members. State-of-the-art fitness equipment, dedicated spaces for group classes, and personalized wellness services were integrated to encourage a holistic approach to health. The creation of a Youth Activities Center further underscores the club’s dedication to fostering a family-friendly environment.

One of the most exciting aspects of the renovation is the newly constructed Pool Complex. Built from the ground up, this aquatic oasis caters to members of all ages. The heated adult pool offers a serene escape for relaxation in submerged chaise lounges and three lap-lanes for aquatic exercise. Families, meanwhile, can enjoy the family pool equipped with a zeroentry feature, six lap-lanes, two diving boards and an exhilarating slide. For the youngest members, the addition of a splash pad adds a playful dimension to the pool area. The Irving Park Pool has an active social calendar, hosting pool parties, cocktail hours and is the home of the outdoor seasonal dining facility, the Donald Ross Terrace.

The Donald Ross-designed golf course is a classic gem that weaves through the charming Irving Park neighborhood, offering a harmonious blend of strategic design and natural beauty. Mature trees line the fairways, imparting a sense of serenity that’s heightened by the backdrop of elegant homes and time-honored architecture. It’s a course that pays homage to the timeless essence of golf. New practice facilities for golfers to hone their game were thoughtfully included with the 2022-23 renovation.

9

Greensboro Country Club extends its commitment to excellence beyond the fairways and into the world of racquet sports. This facility is a hub of outdoor racquet sports action. Here, members are treated to the delightful blend of outdoor tennis, pickleball and paddle tennis. The facility resonates with the echoes of friendly matches, strategic rallies, and the laughter of those engaged in spirited competition. With meticulously maintained courts and a vibrant atmosphere, the Irving Park facility invites players to enjoy the warm sun and fresh air as they engage in their favorite racquet sports.

In addition to our dining, sports and recreational facilities, Greensboro Country Club is also a preferred venue for hosting elegant events and celebrations. Sophisticated event spaces, complemented by expert event planning and impeccable service, make every occasion truly memorable.

Beyond exceptional facilities, it is the genuine warmth and dedication of the staff that sets GCC apart. With a commitment to personalized service and attention to detail, the team is poised to deliver an unrivaled experience to every member and guest who graces the club.

10

The Farm

Nestled amid the serene landscapes of the Farm course, the second clubhouse embodies a more contemporary and nature-inspired aesthetic. Its panoramic views and seamless integration with the picturesque surroundings offer a tranquil escape from the bustle of everyday life. This clubhouse caters to those who seek a connection with nature while enjoying the comforts of modern amenities.

The award-winning, championship Farm course offers 18 holes with wide fairways, strategic bunkering and panoramic views. This course presents a fresh perspective on the game. The modern design philosophy seamlessly integrates the course with its natural surroundings, creating a dynamic and engaging golfing experience. The Farm course embodies innovation and adaptability, catering to golfers who seek a blend of challenge and aesthetics. The original course was designed by Ellis Maples in 1963. Forty years after Greensboro Country Club acquired the course, GCC enlisted Donald Steel for an extreme renovation. In 2010, the Farm course was awarded “Renovation of the Year” by Golf Magazine

11

Situated amid the tranquil vistas of the Farm, the Farm’s racquet sports facility elevates the racquet sports experience to new heights. Boasting a unique blend of outdoor and indoor courts, the Farm caters to every season’s demands. The outdoor courts offer a picturesque setting where players can indulge in a lively game of tennis. But, what truly sets the Farm apart is its indoor courts, which are not only lined for traditional tennis but also for the increasingly popular pickleball. This indoor option ensures that racquet sports enthusiasts can continue to play regardless of weather conditions, making it a true year-round haven for athletes of all levels.

The Farm Pool’s six-lane, 25-meter Olympic-style short course is home to the Blue Dolphins swim team, with over 150 children participating in the summer swim team league. The Farm also features a diving well, a shallow area for children and a small wading pool for toddlers. The aquatics facilities are the focal point for many of the members during the summer. The Club hosts many fun events at the pool, including family-oriented holiday events on Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. Throughout the summer, members enjoy lounging poolside, swimming laps, sports camps and more.

12

At the Farm, casual dining takes center stage, inviting members to unwind and enjoy a meal in an environment that exudes warmth and relaxation. The casual dining area reflects a cozy farmhouse aesthetic, creating a welcoming backdrop for families, friends and fellow club members to gather. The Farm isn’t just a place to eat; it’s an experience that encapsulates GCC’s dedication to providing exceptional moments for its members. The combination of casual dining, al fresco options, and a full bar creates an atmosphere where members can escape from the daily routine and immerse themselves in the pleasures of good food, great company and the beauty of their surroundings.

The new hire orientation program goes beyond the usual on-boarding procedures, offering a comprehensive introduction to the club’s history, values, and the high service standards that define its identity. New staff members are introduced to the club’s culture of hospitality and attentiveness, ensuring they understand the significance of their roles in shaping extraordinary experiences for members and guests.

Central to the orientation process is the “Standards of Excellence Culture Card,” a unique document that serves as a guide for every staff member. This card outlines the club’s expectations for service excellence and serves as a daily reminder of the high standards they are committed to upholding. Operations

Operating a $15 million yearly budget with two clubhouses, multiple dining outlets, two golf courses, two aquatics facilities, two racquet sports complexes as well as a Fitness, Health & Wellness Center and Youth Activities Center within a relatively small geographical radius presents both opportunities and challenges. This complex setup offers a rich array of amenities and experiences for members while also requiring meticulous management to ensure seamless operations.

Opportunities:

• Diverse Experiences: The multiple facilities allow for a diverse range of experiences. Members can choose from various dining options, golf courses, and recreational facilities based on their preferences, creating a personalized and engaging club experience.

• Enhanced Membership Value: The availability of multiple amenities within proximity enhances the value of membership. Members have access to an extensive array of options, making the club an attractive and comprehensive destination for their leisure and social needs.

• Specialization: Operating multiple facilities enables specialization and expertise in each area. This results in exceptional culinary experiences, well-maintained golf courses, top-notch racquet sports complexes, and outstanding aquatics facilities.

• Flexibility: The multiple locations provide flexibility for members who may live closer to one facility than the other. This ensures that the club accommodates the convenience of its diverse membership base.

18

Challenges:

• Coordination: Managing multiple facilities requires seamless coordination across departments and locations. Effective communication and collaboration are essential to ensure consistency in service, operations, and member experiences.

• Resource Allocation: Distributing resources such as staff, supplies and maintenance across multiple sites can be a logistical challenge. Strategic resource allocation is necessary to maintain quality and efficiency.

• Consistency: Ensuring consistent quality, branding, and member experience across all facilities can be demanding. Attention to detail is crucial to maintain the club’s reputation for excellence.

• Logistics: Transporting equipment, staff, and supplies between locations may pose logistical difficulties. Effective transportation and logistics planning are necessary to prevent disruptions.

• Member Engagement: Engaging members across multiple facilities requires tailored communication and programming, ensuring that members feel equally connected to all aspects of the club.

In navigating these opportunities and challenges, Greensboro Country Club benefits from the opportunity to offer diverse and comprehensive experiences to its members. It must, however, remain vigilant in maintaining a harmonious and synchronized operation across all its facilities to deliver the highest standards of service and ensure that each member’s experience is consistently exceptional.

19

Adapting to Changing Times

The journey from Greensboro Country Club’s humble origins to its present status as a comprehensive country club reflects not only the changing preferences of the members but also the club’s commitment to adapting and thriving. From modest beginnings with a handful of golfers, GCC has evolved into a comprehensive country club that caters to the diverse needs and desires of families, individuals and the broader community. Its journey is a testament to the power of adaptability, vision, and a deep understanding of the evolving aspirations of its members - both current and future.

One of the pivotal shifts GCC has made over recent years was to embrace a family-centric approach to attracting new members. Greensboro Country Club expanded its scope to provide activities, amenities and facilities that catered to all generations. With the completion of the recent renovation in 2022-23, a Health and Wellness Center and Youth Activities Center (with child watch) were introduced, responding to the evolving lifestyles and preferences of members.

In response to the changing needs and demographics of its surrounding community, Greensboro Country Club introduced an innovative membership category known as the “Farm Membership.” This new membership category was thoughtfully designed to cater specifically to the population growth around the club’s Farm location. With this new initiative, Greensboro Country Club effectively bridged the gap between its rich history and the changing demands of the community.

Recognizing the value of obtaining insights directly from its members, Greensboro Country Club is partnering with a nationally recognized firm this year to orchestrate a membership survey that delves into the diverse preferences, expectations and desires of the members. The survey will serve as a critical tool for the club’s strategic planning process. By aligning member feedback with the club’s vision, mission and long-term goals, Greensboro Country Club ensures that its initiatives and offerings remain in harmony with the expectations of the members.

The pickleball revolution reached GCC recently, and answering the call, GCC constructed four pickleball courts at the Irving Park location as well as lined the indoor courts for pickleball at the Farm location in 2022. The courts are full morning, afternoon and night - reflecting the club’s dedication to staying relevant and engaging in an ever-evolving world.

20

When the pandemic disrupted traditional dining operations, Greensboro Country Club recognized the importance of providing members with safe and convenient dining solutions. The result was the launch of a takeout dining service and a selection of grab & go items, enabling members to enjoy the club’s culinary offerings from the comfort of their homes. What emerged as a response to the pandemic has become a transformative addition to Greensboro Country Club’s culinary offerings to this day. The takeout dining and grab & go service continues to thrive, serving as a reminder of the club’s resilience, flexibility, and dedication to evolving alongside the needs and desires of the members.

Greensboro Country Club’s commitment to farm-to-table excellence has reached new heights with the establishment of its very own mushroom farm. With over 1,000 plugs and a diverse array of more than 12 different mushroom varieties, GCC is not only embracing sustainable sourcing but also cultivating a rich tapestry of flavors for its culinary offerings. Additionally, in another exciting leap towards sustainability and culinary innovation, Greensboro Country Club is embarking on a visionary project set to debut in 2024: the establishment of its own honey farm. This endeavor is poised to create a buzz not only within the club but throughout the community, as it underlines the club’s commitment to locally sourced, farm-to-table excellence, as well as environmental stewardship.

Greensboro Country Club stands at the forefront of technological innovation, enriching member experiences and contributing to a more sustainable future. Through new technology in the program, Golf Genius, golf tournaments at Greensboro Country Club are elevated to a new level of excitement. Players and spectators can access real-time scoring updates, live leaderboards, and detailed statistics from their mobile devices. This interactive feature immerses participants in the unfolding action, fostering a sense of camaraderie and competition that extends beyond the greens. Moreover, the integration of Golf Genius contributes to a greener golfing experience. By reducing the reliance on traditional paper scorecards and printed materials, the club’s commitment to sustainability shines through.

21

The GCC Experience

The club’s commitment to providing a special and memorable member experience is evident in every facet of its offerings, making it truly a home away from home.

But what truly sets Greensboro Country Club apart is the sense of community it fosters. It’s the laughter of children at family events, the camaraderie on the greens, the shared excitement at tournaments, and the friendships forged over a meal. It’s the feeling of being part of something larger, of having a place where one’s presence matters, and where memories are woven into the fabric of life.

The hallmark of Greensboro Country Club lies in its staff – a team that exudes warmth, professionalism and genuine care. From the moment members step onto the grounds, they are greeted with a friendly smile and attentive service that transforms the club into an extended family. This atmosphere of hospitality makes every visit to the club a comforting and welcoming experience, where members feel valued and cherished.

In the end, being a member of Greensboro Country Club is about more than amenities; it’s about the intangible moments that create a sense of joy, belonging, and shared experiences. It’s about a tennis match that stretches into the golden hours of the evening, a round of golf that turns into a bonding session, and a festive event where laughter and connections thrive.

Greensboro Country Club isn’t just a club; it’s an embodiment of community, camaraderie, tradition and cherished memories that make every member feel truly special and fortunate to call it their own.
