HEALTHCARE
Healthcare needs for the community are met by medical facilities staffed by more than 100 physicians in a variety of specialties, several nursing homes, assisted living facilities and numerous other health-related businesses. Ballad Health, a family of 21 hospitals regionally, operates Greeneville Community Hospital.
Greeneville Municipal Airport is a home base for a medical-evacuation helicopter, enabling the hospital and Wings Air Rescue work to cover points within 125 miles of Greeneville. Health services are enhanced by Greene County’s close proximity to major medical centers in Knoxville and the Tri-Cities area. Veterans in the area have close access to the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Johnson City, which provides tertiary medical care, surgery and psychiatric services for veterans in surrounding states.

DAVID CROCKETT BIRTHPLACE STATE PARK

The birthplace of Tennessee’s favorite son, nestled on the banks of the Nolichucky River. The park is currently closed and under repair from flood damage from Hurricane Helene.
BIBLE COVERED BRIDGE
Warrensburg and Bible Branch Rd.
Built in 1923, the bridge stretches across Little Chuckey Creek at a ford that connects the Bible farm with the Warrensburg Road. In 1948, the bridge was deeded to Greene County and in 1975 became a historical structure. Restoration of the bridge was completed in the fall of 2004.

DOAK HOUSE MUSEUM

Home of Samuel Witherspoon Doak, frontier Presbyterian minister and educator who co-founded Tusculum College. Built circa 1830 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Doak House Museum is home to period furnishings, exhibits, a museum shop, and offers educational programs for adults and children, as well as special events throughout the year.

LOST STATE OF FRANKLIN

This building was used from 1785 to 1787 as the Capitol of Franklin. This original log cabin was dismantled and sent to Nashville for the Tennessee Centennial Exposition in 1897. When the logs were not returned to the city, a replica was constructed at the same site. It is an authentic reproduction of the original.
OLD GREENE COUNTY GAOL (JAIL)

Originally built in 1804-05, the stone jail was in the middle of Depot Street near the Andrew Johnson Tailor Shop. The rear of the jail was nearly touching Richland Creek so the creek water could be channeled to enter and flow through a trough in the stone floor to carry away human waste. In 1838, the jail was moved stone by stone to present site.

The museum is located in Old College built in 1841. It houses the personal library of President Andrew Johnson, along with personal papers and memorabilia of the president and his family. OLD HARMONY GRAVEYARD

The oldest graveyard in present-day Greeneville, the tombstones date back to the 1790s. Valentine Sevier, who served as Circuit Court Clerk from 1810 until 1854, is buried here, as well as Robert Kerr, first settler of Greeneville, and Mordecai Lincoln, a cousin of Abraham Lincoln. The upper corner is called the “cholera section” because, in 1873, during an epidemic trenches were dug and people were buried there when they were dying faster than graves could be dug.

USS GREENEVILLE (SSN 772)
USS GREENEVILLE is the 61st Los Angeles Class submarine and the 22nd Improved Los Angeles Class Attack submarine. Construction began on March 1, 1990, and her keel was laid on April 16, 1992, at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. The Pre-Commissioning Unit GREENEVILLE (SSN-772) was officially manned on January 19, 1994, and christened on September 17, 1994, by Mrs. Tipper Gore, wife of former Vice President Al Gore. USS GREENEVILLE was commissioned a US Naval warship at Norfolk Naval Base on February 16, 1996. GREENEVILLE changed homeport to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in March 1997.
