TROY’S TOY KINGDOM: VISIT CANTON
Sir Troy’s Toy Kingdom boasts an impressive cityscape made from thousands of LEGO pieces.

Live and LEGO

Watch the young and young-at-heart jump for joy upon entering Sir Troy’s Toy Kingdom, a 30,000-square-foot play palace and one of the largest independent toy stores in the country. Home to 150 lines and nearly 10,000 products ranging from Breyer horses and Calico Critters to Hot Wheels and Masterpiece puzzles, Sir Troy’s manifested from owner Troy Cefaratti’s hobby of buying and selling LEGO kits. Now, his business boasts one of the widest selections of LEGOs in the Midwest, featuring hundreds of new and out-of-production sets, as well as magnificent LEGO cityscapes and other creations.

Haven of Hardware

Hartville Hardware has come a long way since its beginnings in 1947 as a local farm store. The 305,000-square-foot retail center is the largest independent hardware store in the U.S., offering everything from gardening and woodworking tools to pet and farming supplies, Carhartt clothing, power equipment and lumber. From the full-service design center that includes a fully furnished Idea House to an architectural facade showcasing significant designs from local Ohio history, Hartville Hardware is the ideal way to get inspired to transform your home from the inside out.

Picker’s Paradise

Scores of Screams

Screams ring through the air of Canton’s Factory of Terror, a three-time Guinness World Record holder for the longest walk-through haunted house. Located inside a 160,000-square-foot aluminum foundry, brave bodies creep through five full-length attractions featuring horrors like blinding flashes, tight and twisting corridors, uneven moving floors, mirror mazes and a large cast of killer, high-energy characters that include clowns, corpses, demons, zombies and more. Covering every fear imaginable, this destination for destruction has no railings to protect guests from what lies within its walls. If getting spooked isn’t your thing, kick back, relax and enjoy a beverage on the “Zombie Bar Crawl” through five themed full-service bars.

All Dolled Up

Mix and mingle with good luck charms of all shapes and sizes at the Troll Hole Museum, located in downtown Alliance and home to more than 8,000 of the world’s most friendly and colorful magical beings and over 25,000 troll-related items. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with a special after-hours comedy tour for adults), the museum boasts the Guinness World Record for the largest Troll Doll collection. Take a tour of this 14-room immersive experience with exhibits that introduce visitors to troll-ified musicians, celebrities and athletes, a replica of the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, vibrant displays, a gift shop and more.

Join the Circus

Every feature of the Immel Circus Gallery at the Massillon Museum has a story, giving the scene the appearance of a teeny tiny circus in motion. The display, which includes 36 elephants, 186 horses, 102 assorted animals, 91 wagons, seven tents and 2,207 people, encompasses mostly hand-carvings by Robert Immel, a Massillon native. In 1995, he donated his miniature creations to the museum, along with more than 1,400 artifacts of circus-related memorabilia. The Massillon Museum, a cultural hub where art and history come together, is also home to a permanent Paul Brown exhibit that displays artifacts from the football legend’s life and career. Looking for a deeper dive into one of America’s favorite pastimes? Head to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which is a mere 8 miles away.

The center will host programs for youth, military veterans and others, and feature an archival museum.

Spring Hill Historic Home has seen many improvements, repairs and updates over the past several years to better preserve this historical Underground Railroad site, including a restoration of both the smoke house foundation and the early 1900s grain barn. This progress continues in spring 2023 with an update to the milk house’s interior. The goal is to make the building an interpretive space covering the history of the local dairy industry.

Since opening in 1963, the Pro Football Hall of Fame has transformed the original 19,000-square-foot gallery into an 118,000-square-foot internationally recognized museum and travel destination. The museum is the centerpiece attraction surrounded by the new Hall of Fame Village being developed by Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Co.

The first phase of the new Hall of Fame Village has been completed, meaning that the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium and several new state-of-the-art athletic fields surrounding it have finished their final renovation. It also includes the largest domed facility of its kind in the country. The Center for Performance boasts 85,000 square feet of unencumbered event space and athletic performance space.

The Fan Engagement Zone is now open as well with restaurant and retail offerings that include Don Shula’s American Kitchen, TopGolf Swing Suites, SMOOSH Cookies, The Brew Kettle, Build-A-Bear Workshop and sports betting. Stop in at the Visit Canton Welcome Center to plan your playbook of things to do and where to shop for local gifts and souvenirs.

Finally, the Play-Action Plaza recreation area has opened, showcasing new attractions, such as the Forward Pass zip line and the Red Zone ferris wheel. The new Constellation Center for Excellence provides 75,000 square feet of retail, research and office space, and serves as the anchor for the giant media mesh video wall inside the NFL-caliber Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. With these additions, the village continues to progress, with more enticing offers still on the way.

Soon the village’s 100 acres will also include a 180-room Hilton Tapestry hotel, restaurant and ballroom. Construction is also underway on the Hall of Fame Village’s spectacular 147,000-square-foot footballthemed indoor waterpark including a waterslide tower, lazy river, wave pool, zero entry fun zone, swim up bar and outdoor entertainment area.

WHAT ONCE WAS MOSTLY KNOWN AS A COLLECTION OF BUSTS AND THE SITE OF THE ANNUAL KICKOFF TO THE NFL PRESEASON HAS EVOLVED INTO A SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT DESTINATION THAT’S DRAWING VISITORS FROM FAR AND WIDE — FOR MORE THAN JUST FOOTBALL.

Blaze a Trail

Today the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail is mostly populated with hikers and cyclists, but from 1827 to 1913, you’d be more likely to see mules pulling boats down the waterway. You can still see remnants of the historic canal along the 87-mile (soon to be 101) trail, as well as lush parks and wilderness areas, including the Cuyahoga Valley National Park

For some fun and fitness on two wheels, challenge yourself to the mountain bike trail at Quail Hollow Park. It’s suitable for beginners and includes paved and off-road terrains over the 5-mile path. Pedal through forests and meadows, over rock garden obstacles and across bridges along the way. Enjoy the views at Walborn Reservoir on the nearly 3 mile Shoreline Hiking Trail or much shorter Marina Loop featuring a great lookout spot qnd bench. The park offers horse-friendly shared trails that take riders around the tranquil and scenic lake, through forests and fields and across wetlands.

Suit up for some fun in the sun at Baylor Beach Park, home to a 2-acre lake that’s been a local favorite every summer since 1954. There’s plenty to do, so plan for a full day: take a ride on the twisty tube slide (there are smaller slides just for little ones), challenge yourself to stay standing on a log roll, rent a paddleboat or aquabike or play a round of mini golf.

Make sure to check out the swimming options at two Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp Resorts in the area.
