This has been a year of big ideas and bold ventures taking off in Greater Cleveland.
The region saw new skyscrapers enhancing our downtown skyline and waterfront projects breaking ground; numerous companies announced expansions and opened new headquarters; thousands of summer interns in The Land, plus more than 10,000 innovators this fall at Tech in the Land events, including the Forbes Under 30 Summit; and more new flights and carriers at CLE, including Aer Lingus direct to Europe. The year ended with Greater Cleveland recording its lowest unemployment rate (2.7%) in over two decades.
The nation is starting to take notice. Cleveland’s growth, innovation and vibrancy were recognized by Forbes, The Washington Post, The Economist, Zillow and Financial Times, and its appeal for tourists was praised in Travel & Leisure, The New York Times and several Irish publications.
“Big Ideas. Bold Ventures.” is also the theme of Greater Cleveland Partnership’s new campaign. We know our region is on the rise, and we are committed to making sure others know Greater Cleveland as a great place for business and innovation, too. By highlighting the many world-leading innovators, groundbreakers and companies who call our region home, our objective is to excite more of us to become better ambassadors for the region.
How is the region making strides? All In.
Two years ago, Greater Cleveland Partnership shared the All In Plan for Greater Cleveland to once again become one of the Great Regions in the Great Lakes. The plan identifies key priorities, metrics to track progress, and most important, an “All In” approach that defines how private, public and philanthropic partners — the civic system — must work together to achieve the vision. We know that when we are All In, we truly all win.
Our work is guided by this plan and these values. The priority areas include Dynamic Businesses, Abundant Talent, Inclusive Opportunity and an Appealing Community, each with specific strategies and all amplified by pro-growth policies.
This annual report highlights achievements across the civic system While we celebrate these milestones, we also stay committed to measuring our progress against our peer set of Midwest Metros on our three metrics of regional success: Business Growth, Jobs Growth and Income Growth.
As you will see in the peer rankings, Greater Cleveland had a good year Our year-over-year rankings show promise, and we remain confident that the region will be among the top tier of our peers for the decade.
But we cannot do it alone. We want to thank all of you our members, partners and friends – those whose big ideas and bold ventures are propelling the region forward. We must continue working together towards becoming one of the Great Regions in the Great Lakes. This is our charge, and we will do it, All In.
Sincerely,
•
