CONFIDENCE, EXPERTISE, and hope
Jackson Heart Institute routinely cares for patients who are considered too complex or even prohibitive elsewhere.
Two years after having COVID-19, Eduardo Escalona Gonzalez, 53, went to his doctor complaining of a persistent cough. He learned his weakened heart muscle was further complicated by pulmonary hypertension, a lingering effect of COVID. His heart was failing.
Escalona was eventually referred to Jackson Heart Institute, where the cardiac team determined he was too sick for a heart transplant. They proposed implanting a left ventricular assist device (LVAD).

“The LVAD serves as a bridge, maintaining his cardiac function while we optimize his overall health to allow for the pulmonary pressures to improve, to a point where heart transplantation could become viable.” said Hari Mallidi, MD, Jackson Heart Institute director, Jackson Health System’s chief of cardiac surgery and heart transplant program director at Miami Transplant Institute.
neurology and neurosurgery programs in the nation. We can leverage the expertise of these programs to help us optimally manage heart surgery patients that have significant neurological issues. That capability just doesn’t exist at many places.”
NEW OPTIONS FOR AORTIC DISEASE
Promising new treatments for aortic disease include the Thoraflex Hybrid to repair complex aortic arch aneurysms or dissection. Mallidi was the first in South Florida to use the innovative technique, making repairs with a single intervention as opposed to two or more surgeries. He says patients have a faster recovery and a lower overall risk due to the avoidance of multiple high-risk procedures.
“What makes us unique is the depth of our expertise and the way we work together across specialties.”
HariMallidi,MD
Treating patients who have run out of options elsewhere is a hallmark of Jackson Heart Institute, where Dr. Mallidi, whose credentials include working at Harvard Medical School and Stanford University, has built a team with an impressive breadth and depth of talent.
PATIENT-CENTRIC TEAM APPROACH
Dr. Mallidi says the team’s clinical expertise and Jackson’s multidisciplinary approach are unique in the region.
“We are able to care for more complex patients because Jackson Heart Institute resides within a hospital system that is capable of taking care of Miami-Dade County’s sickest residents,” says Mallidi. “As an example, possible complications of major aortic surgery include neurologic concerns, and at Jackson, we have one of the best
REDO HEART SURGERIES
As heart patients live longer, they’re requiring additional surgeries, such as valve replacements. They tend to be older, with multiple other health concerns, and in many cases have already had heart surgery in the past. Many of these inherently high-risk patients land at Jackson.
“We are always going to excel at taking care of patients that need complex reoperations, have heart failure, or multiple medical comorbidities because we have this comprehensive care program across multiple organs, across multiple disciplines,” says Mallidi, who also performs coronary artery bypass grafting on many patients in renal failure awaiting kidney transplant.

Top rating from Society of Thoracic Surgeons
Jackson Heart Institute is one of the best performing cardiac surgery programs in the nation, earning a prestigious three-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the gold standard for assessing surgical quality and patient outcomes in cardiac surgical care. Jackson was recognized for the quality of the overall surgical program (across multiple procedures) and specifically, for the outcomes following coronary artery bypass surgery.

Editor’s LETTER
Inspire, Challenge, Connect

Dear Reader,
I’m thrilled to step into the role of Group Editor for Lifestyle Media Group. As a native South Floridian, I’ve watched our community transform in vibrant ways, and I’m excited to be at the helm of Lifestyle, a magazine I’ve long admired. At heart, I’ve always been a storyteller, and I believe the best stories don’t just inform—they inspire. They leave us a little more curious, a little more connected, and sometimes even a little better o .

That’s the spirit I hope to bring you every month: fresh takes, new voices, and a spotlight on the changemakers shaping our world. But the story that de nes the Women of In uence issue for me is our cover feature on attorney Sigrid McCawley. She is, in my opinion, The Ultimate Woman of In uence. McCawley has represented survivors of Je rey Epstein in landmark cases, gone head-tohead with Prince Andrew, and defended Blake Lively’s longtime publicist in a defamation suit in the recent Lively v Baldoni matter. Meeting Sigrid reminded me that real in uence isn’t about power alone—it’s about purpose.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we enjoyed creating it. Here’s to celebrating the stories that inspire, challenge, and connect us.
Cheers,
Jessica Graves

Sigrid McCawley Won’t Back Down

igrid McCawley’s name has become synonymous with some of the most high-profile legal battles of our time.
Her face is a constant presence on major news outlets—from Netflix documentaries (Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich) to interviews with 60 Minutes, ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN. As one of the key figures fighting for justice on behalf of Epstein’s victims, she has navigated the complexities of some of the most challenging and public legal cases in recent history.
A Managing Partner at Boies Schiller Flexner, a firm founded by famed lawyer David Boies and regarded as elite among litigation firms, McCawley’s skill as a litigator has earned her prestigious accolades, including Forbes 2025 America’s Best-InState Lawyers and a spot on their Top 200 list in 2024. The American Lawyer named her Litigator of the Year in 2020, and National Law Journal recognized her as a Litigation Trailblazer in 2019. Forbes once described her courtroom work as “ironclad interrogation skills” and “a legal performance that should be taught.”
But beyond the headlines and high-stakes trials is a fuller portrait of McCawley— the mother, mentor, and community leader whose work has not only recovered hundreds of millions for survivors but continues to shape the legal landscape in lasting ways. This is the side that blends courtroom victories with boardroom leadership, family milestones, and the quiet moments that keep her grounded.
When I arrive at her Mediterranean-style Fort Lauderdale home, she greets me with a warm smile. At 5’10”, she has the posture of someone who’s spent decades commanding courtrooms, yet her manner is relaxed. The McCawleys have called this house their sanctuary for 16 years—close enough to the courthouse, airport, and their respective offices on Las Olas to balance the demands of a heavy caseload with a bustling family life.
That life includes four kids: Kincaid, 20; twin sons Max and Zac, 16; and Maddy, 11. Between school, sports, and travel, “free time” is more of a concept than a reality. Dan McCawley, a commercial real estate attorney, coaches their kids’ teams— basketball, football, baseball, even Maddy’s soccer. “It was love at first sight,” Dan says of meeting Sigrid at a friend’s World Series watch party in 1997. “I told my mom the next day I’d met the girl I wanted to marry.” After two years in Washington, D.C., they returned to Fort Lauderdale—Dan’s hometown—because “it’s where I knew

“IN LIFE, YOU GET LUCKY WITH CERTAIN THINGS. I DON'T THINK I COULD HAVE DONE WHAT I'VE DONE WITHOUT HAVING THIS SERIES OF ANGELS A ROUND ME."

we’d be better off raising a family.”
Sigrid’s work ethic was forged long before she ever stepped into a courtroom. Born in upstate New York, she moved with her mother, Jean Pasker, and two older sisters to Naples when she was entering the sixth grade. Jean raised the girls on her own, often working three jobs to keep them afloat. “That’s where I get it from,” McCawley says of her mother's relentless drive. “She just didn’t stop—ever.” It’s a lesson she’s carried into her career: the willingness to keep showing up, no matter how hard the fight.
That same drive has fueled her rise in a profession where the bar for women is often set higher. “Most of the time, women have to try twice as hard as their male counterparts—and that’s still true today,” she says. But she also sees signs of progress for the next generation. “The men I work with now are much more understanding of women. You see more real partnerships in relationships than you did 20 years ago.”
Even so, the landscape of Big Law remains challenging. “A lot of women don’t end up staying in it,” says McCawley. “They might go in-house or take a different path. There are only a few of us in management at big firms, and I think it’s because of the barriers you face.” Breaking through meant proving her value beyond question. “Bringing in business is what gets you elevated in a firm,” she says. “I had to find a way to navigate that and stay with it.”
She’s quick to challenge the lawyer stereotype. “A client will say, ‘I want a pit bull.’ And I’ll tell them, ‘You actually don’t. You want someone who’s strategic, who will pick the right moments to be tough, because if you’re a pit bull all the time, you lose your impact.’ You can be calm, you can be measured—and still be formidable. The way you change that perception is by winning.”
That strategic mindset will be on full display this September,
when McCawley and her partner, Kenya Davis go to trial in the Southern District of New York—Drew Dixon’s case against music executive LA Reid—where they’ll call highprofile witnesses, including John Legend, to the stand. In the days preceding her three-week trial in federal court—when most lawyers would be home preparing for trial—she’ll be in Washington, D.C., standing shoulder to shoulder with survivors at a World Without Exploitation rally, a public response to news that Ghislaine Maxwell could receive a reduced sentence or even a pardon.
“She walks what she talks,” says Dawn Schneider, founder of Schneider Media Group and McCawley’s longtime advisor. “And I think that is one of the reasons for her success and why people are drawn to her and admire her.”
Sigrid’s day to day work involves a lot of sophisticated litigation including shuffling from working to assist her energy clients with commercial disputes to handling multi-million dollar corporate buy out disputes. Her caseload is filled with matters that have drawn national attention. She is representing a group of professional dancers in a sexual abuse case involving a former dance instructor and his wife—work she describes as 'being an important example of her firm’s commitment to free legal work for those in need'. “We just had a hearing last week on summary judgment," she says, "and I expect that that case will get set for trial soon."
In the recent Lively v. Baldoni matter, she defended Blake Lively’s longtime publicist, Leslie Sloane and her company Vision PR, in a defamation suit brought by actor Justin Baldoni and successfully got her client dismissed from the litigation. The public battle over that case "has taken away from what is really at the core—a woman who contends that she was harmed in the workplace and is rightfully standing up for herself.”
"PEOPLE DESERVE TO KNOW WHO WAS THERE, WHY THEY WERE THERE, WHEN THEY WERE INVOLVED,” SHE SAYS OF THE EPSTEIN FILES. “THERE’S NO REASON JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE MONEY THAT YOU SHOULD BE PROTECTED WHEN YOU’VE DONE BAD
It’s survivor-centered work that defines much of her career. Her long-running representation of Virginia Giuffre and other women abused by Epstein remains one of her most highprofile—and personal—missions. “In the Epstein space, I have a very large class action right now, still pending in the Southern District of New York, where we have sued, on behalf of the survivors, Epstein’s right-hand lawyer and accountant—two of the centerpieces of his operation,” she explains. “Because it takes a lawyer to be able to create those false companies and document that information, and it takes an accountant to handle the money.”
In 2023, her team secured $365 million in settlements from JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank, using a novel legal theory, McCawley describes the settlements as “really life-changing money for those women.” But she’s not done. She continues to push for the unsealing of thousands of pages of court records known as the “Epstein files.” “People deserve to know who was there, why they were there, when they were involved,” she says. “There’s no reason just because you have money that you should be protected when you’ve done bad things.”
She recalls the time after Epstein died, when Judge Richard Berman allowed the survivors to speak openly in court.
“Virginia was there, and many of the other survivors. You got to see that collective support from one another. They all came from different walks of life, abused at different times, and to see that sisterhood of survivorship—it was beautiful. It made me feel like, okay, there’s hope for these women. We got them some financial justice, which helps. It’s not perfect, but it can help alleviate the burden and get them good mental health care.”
Virginia’s untimely passing this year underscores the emotional toll these cases take on survivors. “From a trauma perspective, when you are ready to come to terms with that, it can affect you in many ways that you might not even realize… the scars of that abuse don’t go away. Facing those demons can be really difficult, and it doesn’t happen right away—it can resurface at different trigger points for different people,” McCawley says.
She also knows the system isn’t built to accommodate every survivor’s timeline. That’s why she’s fighting to abolish or
extend the statute of limitations for adult survivors under the Federal Trafficking Act. “That argument to protect defendants just isn’t there anymore,” she says. “In the digital age, evidence doesn’t just disappear. We can go back years and prove cases. The law just hasn’t caught up.”
And she’s seen firsthand what it takes to prove even the most heavily denied claims. “When Virginia first came out and said, ‘These things happened to me…,’ everyone said, ‘You’re lying.’ We got really lucky because there were hard copy documents that helped us. As a child, she was being put on these private planes, and they had to record her name. We were able to place her there, get a photo of her in that location. That’s how we proved it.”
Her caseload is heavy, but so is the demand for her help. She gets calls every day from people hoping she’ll take their case. McCawley takes on as many as she can, but the reality is that a large portion have to be turned down. “If I can’t take it, I’ll find them someone who will", she says.
Her advocacy extends well beyond the courtroom. McCawley sits on the boards of the Broward Community Foundation and Jack and Jill Center, and she previously served for years on the board of ChildNet. She mentors young lawyers on finding purpose-driven work and devotes substantial pro bono hours to cases that might otherwise never be brought to light. “It’s encouraging to see more large commercial firms stepping in and doing pro bono work,” she says. “It’s critical for access to justice.”
Dan says it’s her ability to combine legal strategy with human empathy that makes her so effective. “Only Sigrid has clients who tell her they love her,” he says. “Not a lot of lawyers hear ‘I love you’ from their clients. She cares to a fault.”
It’s a sentiment she carries into every case. For McCawley, justice isn’t only about the verdict—it’s about the people. “I’ve seen the worst of humanity, but I’ve also seen the absolute best,” she says. “The survivors I’ve had the privilege of working with have changed me. They’ve given me hope—to survive those atrocities and still move forward, still fight, still live. That’s what keeps me going. It’s only made me a better person.” ■

Guy Harvey Foundation:
INSPIRING THE NEXT WAVE OF OCEAN CONSERVATIONISTS IN FLORIDA AND BEYOND
BY PETER GIBSON

In 1986, an unknown marine biologist and self-taught artist from Jamaica arrived at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show with a folding table, a stack of T-shirts, and vibrant paintings of the ocean’s most captivating creatures. The art turned heads, the shirts sold out, and something far bigger than a weekend hustle was set in motion.
The man behind the table was Guy Harvey— destined to become one of the world’s most recognized marine wildlife artists and a leading voice for ocean conservation. What began as a humble booth at a boat show grew into a career that seamlessly merged art, science, and education. In 2008, Harvey took his mission to the next level, founding the Guy Harvey Foundation (formerly the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation) in Fort Lauderdale and channeling his passion into a global force for research, education, and preservation of the seas.
From shark-tagging expeditions at the Guy Harvey Research Institute—based at Nova Southeastern University’s Halmos College of Arts & Sciences—to coral restoration projects in the Florida Keys, the Foundation’s work is deeply rooted in South Florida. The waters here are more than a backdrop; they’re living classrooms, laboratories, and reminders of what’s at stake if we fail to protect the marine environment.
Now leading the Foundation as CEO is Harvey’s daughter, Jessica. Raised on boats and research trips, she grew up immersed in marine science and conservation. Her love of wildlife and the outdoors—instilled by her parents—led her into a career as an environmental conservationist before taking the helm of the family’s nonprofit.
Jessica’s latest initiative, the Guy Harvey Conservation Education Program, gives educators—and, by extension, schools and districts—access to regional professional development in environmental Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education.
After completing the training, participants become Guy Harvey Conservation (GHC) Educators, equipped with recognition, resources, and grants to enhance their classrooms and inspire the next generation of ocean stewards. “This is open to all elementary, middle, and high school educators,” Jessica says. “It includes all the materials, supplies, and educational content they need to inspire and excite the next generation of stewards of ocean conservation.”
The program builds on earlier educational initiatives,
including K–12 marine science curriculum development, STEAM-based lesson plans, and hands-on experiences that connect students directly to the ocean’s wonders and challenges. Strategic partnerships with Brightmark, SeaWorld, the Florida Lottery, and Norwegian Cruise Line have exponentially expanded the curriculum’s reach, with an estimated potential impact of 50 million students and five million teachers worldwide.
For local students in Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties, the impact is immediate and tangible. A beach cleanup focused on plastic waste, studying coral health, or tracking a satellite-tagged shark from a classroom computer can ignite a lifelong passion for conservation.
Fueling this education is the cutting-edge science produced by the Guy Harvey Research Institute, established in 1999 through a collaboration between Harvey and NSU. One of only a handful of private organizations dedicated exclusively to conserving fish populations and biodiversity, the Institute brings together scientists, students, and volunteers to tag sharks, monitor reef health, and generate data that shapes conservation policy.
The Institute’s shark-tracking program—open to sponsorship by schools, businesses, and individuals—lets the public follow tagged sharks online in near-real time. “This is science that captures the imagination while also producing valuable migration data that helps protect these vital apex predators,” Jessica says.
While the Foundation’s reach extends across the globe, its heartbeat is here in South Florida, where eco-tourism, fishing, and recreation depend on healthy oceans. Locals can support its mission by volunteering, purchasing Guy Harvey merchandise (a portion of proceeds goes to conservation and education), or attending the annual fundraising gala.
Every October, the Foundation hosts this signature event in Fort Lauderdale, with proceeds benefiting ocean research and education. This year’s 17th anniversary celebration will take place October 29 at the Lauderdale Yacht Club and will honor two individuals for their significant contributions to marine conservation and education.
Dr. Harvey’s story is a testament to how one person’s passion can spark a movement—but as he often says, “It takes cash to care.” Just as his career began with a table at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, the future of ocean conservation rests with students, teachers, and ocean lovers working together to protect our seas. Visit guyharveyfoundation.org to get involved.

Let Your Sol Shine
THE WOMEN BEHIND YOUR BEST HAIR DAYS YET
By Jessica Graves | Photography by Lorena Cora
All women in Florida can agree on at least one thing: humidity is relentless, the sun is erce, and even the best blowout can wilt before lunch. For years, the go-to x for unruly, frizzprone hair was a keratin treatment. It worked, but it was strong-smelling, time-consuming, and not exactly great for your lungs.
That’s where Samantha Bartlett and Paola Pinto saw an opportunity to create something better. Their brand, Solshine, isn’t just another haircare line; it’s a healthier, customizable alternative to keratin, made right here in South Florida and designed for every hair type under the sun. “We manufacture our products in Pompano Beach and everything is made here,” says

Samantha, who owns Boca Raton’s salon Dapper & Divine. She remembers all too well the challenges of traditional keratin. “Anytime someone did a keratin treatment, we would all feel like we were dying,” she says with a laugh. “We would be like, ‘Can you book it for the end of the day, or can we open the windows and doors?’”
Paola, a longtime client at Samantha’s salon, had a solution. “My brother and I had hair products we were developing that we knew were gold,” she recalls. “So, I asked her to try them, and she fell in love. That’s how the story begins.” Paola’s family, chemists with over two decades in product manufacturing, had created a formaldehyde-free smoothing treatment. Samantha loved the concept but suggested a few re nements.
Together, they adjusted scent pro les, textures, and active ingredients based on real feedback from clients and friends. The result was Solshine, a line that smooths, so ens, and strengthens hair without locking you into one style.
Unlike keratin, which commits you to pin-straight hair for months, Solshine lets you choose your result. “It’s super versatile,” Samantha says. “It doesn’t have to be on someone just looking for straight hair. It could be on a client that has curly hair, maybe unmanageable curls, and they just want to manage them better and get rid of frizz.” The formulas work for all hair types: blonde, brunette, curly, straight, textured, and even the more resistant feel of gray hair. “We formulated the line thinking of people who live in Florida, because if it works here, it can work anywhere,”
Paola says.
The brand’s playful product names are as sunny as their results, many with a nod to Florida’s uno cial mascot, the amingo. Their cheeky use of the word “ ocks” gives a tropical wink while adding a touch of sly humor that makes the brand instantly memorable.
The in-salon treatment, SolSmooth, is the professional powerhouse, delivering the longestlasting results with a higher concentration of active ingredients. For home use, the hero is Zero Flocks Given, an at-home version of

WE FORMULATED THE LINE THINKING OF PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN FLORIDA, BECAUSE IF IT WORKS HERE, IT CAN WORK ANYWHERE."
the salon keratin treatment.
For everyday maintenance, Purely Stellar, a salt- and sulfate-free shampoo, keeps hair silky and color-safe. When it’s time for a deeper clean, Fresh Start Detox steps in. “It’s one-of-a-kind,” Samantha says. “It’s not stripping and it doesn’t leave a knotted mess. It leaves hair feeling so and nice and manageable.” Nourishment comes from Flocking Fabulous, a bond-repair mask that mends damage while delivering rich hydration, and Smooth Sailing, a detangling conditioner that makes post-wash comb-outs e ortless. Florida-proof hydration continues with Rain or Shine, a leave-in conditioner that locks in moisture without weighing hair down, and Sunkissed Serum, a frizz- ghting nisher for polished ends and shine. To extend your style, It’s a Breeze is the standout. “It has the same active ingredients that keratin has,” Paola explains. “You spray it on wet hair and then you blow dry to activate it.”
“Our products are considered ‘clean beauty’,” Samantha notes. They’re also sustainable: “We have re llable packages, and our bottles are made out of aluminum.” Every formula is formaldehydefree, making them safer for stylists and clients alike. “It’s super easy to blow out. There’s no fumes whatsoever. There’s no heaviness on the hair,” Paola says. The bene ts go far beyond styling. “We use ingredients that repair the hair while stimulating your scalp to strengthen, nourish and protect it from not just the UV rays, but from hot tools,” she adds.
Still in its early days, Solshine is already earning a loyal following in salons and homes. With science-backed formulas, professional salon expertise, and a deep understanding of the Florida climate, it’s bringing a fresh breeze to the battle against frizz. And in a state where frizz is almost a given, Solshine is making sure that, at least when it comes to your hair, you can truly give Zero Flocks. Solshinehair.com

DEAR OLIVIA BAR & KITCHEN BRINGS BIG CITY ENERGY TO PARKLAND’S DINING SCENE
BY KARA BYRNES
Dear Olivia, the whimsically named new Parkland restaurant, is the latest addition to P Hospitality Management’s growing portfolio. Recently opened in the former Deja Blue space in Parkland Commons, the concept is a passion project for South Florida–born restaurateur Paul Greenberg, who joined Christina and Eddie Pozzuoli’s restaurant group last year.
Greenberg, co-founder of high-energy hotspot American Social, envisioned a modern neighborhood dining destination that would feel like a home away from home for young families, bar regulars, and serious diners alike. With a world-

class culinary and cocktail team, a warm atmosphere, and three decades of hospitality experience, he’s delivered—o ering a welcoming environment, a beautifully designed indoor/ outdoor space, great food, inspired drinks; and the not-so-secret ingredient—a healthy dose of fun.
The beating heart of the restaurant, a large wraparound indoor/outdoor bar, was three deep on a recent visit, as patrons in everything from après-golf attire to stilettos sipped cra cocktails. Diners packed the twinkle-lit lakeside terrace on a sultry South Florida summer evening, unable to resist the lure of the setting. Indoors, the light and airy dining room buzzed with conversation—creating the intangible vibe that is the secret sauce of successful restaurants. Dear Olivia feels tailor-made for the Parkland dining scene.
Joyful, energetic, and a little bit cheeky, Dear Olivia
channels the personality of its namesake, Greenberg’s nine-year-old daughter. She’s o en onsite with her father, checking in on tables and proudly telling patrons that it’s her restaurant and "she’s there to make sure they have a great time".
“Parkland hasn’t had a restaurant like Dear Olivia,” Greenberg says. “I wanted to bring the community the same type of culinary and bar experience that you nd on Atlantic Avenue or Las Olas—great food, creative drinks, and exceptional hospitality—without the expensive Uber ride and babysitter costs.”
The menu is globally inspired but approachable— even playful—taking diners through a range of options. Starters and Shareables include melt-in-your-mouth biscuits with honey butter and pimento cheese, and Cast Iron Baked Brie served with g jam, toasted walnuts, and grilled ciabatta bread. Main plates might feature

a perfectly grilled Char Siu Pork Chop served atop a crispy rice cake with sesame spinach and Asian barbecue sauce, or branzino with fresh, seasonal accompaniments.
The Adult Happy Meal, a ri on the viral “Girl Dinner” trend, is already a bona de favorite. Comprised of a Caesar salad, French fries, and a perfectly poured dirty martini, the concept feels more like something you’d nd on a menu in Miami or New York than Parkland— and it’s already one of Dear Olivia’s top sellers.
“We were surprised to see how popular the Adult Happy Meal is,” Greenberg muses. “It’s playful, not something you see at every restaurant—and that’s exactly why we wanted to bring it to ours.”
Other early favorites include the double smash burger, seared to crispy perfection and topped with caramelized onions, pickles, and house-made AP sauce (mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce, and maple syrup); jumbo coconut shrimp with Thai green papaya salad and mango sweet chili sauce; and indulgent Reuben egg rolls stu ed with pastrami, Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing, and roasted heirloom carrots. Desserts are impossible to resist,

from Mile High Key Lime Meringue Pie with graham cracker crust, mango sauce, and toasted coconut, to my personal favorite—Cookies: fresh-baked chocolate chunk cookies served with a chilled milk bottle.
The children’s menu, kid-tested and approved by Olivia herself, goes beyond chicken tenders (though Greenberg insists theirs are “next level”). Steak tips, grilled shrimp, sh, burgers, and a popular favorite—ramen—cater to budding young foodies.
With a bar that commands attention the moment you enter, beverage director Jose Gil— who worked with Greenberg at American Social—spent months perfecting a cocktail program designed to resonate with the community while re ecting current trends. Gil has created a master class in cocktail making. Vintage cocktails such as Manhattans and Negronis share the menu with inventive signatures like the Strawberry Smash—a refreshing blend of Maker’s Mark bourbon, ginger syrup, strawberries, lemon juice, and Q ginger beer—and Just Friends, made with El Tesoro Blanco tequila, blueberry purée, lemon juice, Pom Wonderful, sage spice, and topped with bubbly Salt Pom air foam that adds a fresh dimension.
Greenberg strongly believes that passion and personal commitment are crucial to a restaurant’s success. He is onsite every day, delivering dishes to tables, chatting with guests— sometimes with Olivia and his other two children, Cameron (11) and Luke (5).
“I still get excited about openings and like to spend a lot of time in the restaurant to make sure I share my excitement with our guests,” he says. “The culture you create from the start helps generate the type of camaraderie that’s so important to a successful restaurant. When your butts get kicked and you sit down with your team at the end of the night and look at each other and say, ‘We survived’—that’s a great feeling. The understanding of being part of something, night a er night, making people happy and taking care of them.”
Dear Olivia is located at 7805 North University Drive in Parkland. Menus and reservations available at dearoliviaparkland.com

TRADING THE TROPICS FOR PATAGONIA’S POLAR PARADISE
BY TY SAWYER

n South Florida, summer doesn’t just arrive—it lingers, heavy and relentless, draping itself over your shoulders like a wet blanket. You can hide in air-conditioned rooms or chase patches of shade, but real relief lies elsewhere, far beyond the horizon. This year, my escape route points straight to the end of the map, where Patagonia’s glaciers spill into icy channels, penguins waddle like they own the shoreline, and the air is so sharp and clean it feels like the rst breath you’ve taken in months. It’s the kind of place that de nes a true cool-cation—an escape not just from heat, but from the pace and noise of everyday life. To get there, you need a ship built for the edge of the world, and that’s where Australis Cruises comes in.
For thirty- ve years, they’ve been charting four-night voyages through Patagonia’s Tierra del Fuego, where sweat-slick pool chairs are forgotten in favor of glacier-fed breezes and the front rail of an expedition ship slipping through some of the most pristine, Wi-Fi-free waterways on Earth. Here, your days ll with the sound of wind and water, your nights with stars, and your mind with something it rarely gets—space to wander without a screen in sight.

TOP: Crisp air awakens the soul on a coolcation.
The journey begins in Punta Arenas, Chile, or Ushuaia, Argentina—the southernmost city on the planet—and turns around at the other. Even before boarding, the crisp air wakes you from the inside out. Snow-capped peaks rise like sentinels above the ports, promising landscapes that will strip away whatever mental clutter you brought with you. If you’re ying in through Santiago or Buenos Aires, build in at least a day on either side. It cushions you

against delays, but more importantly, it lets you wander these vibrant cities before stepping into a wilder world.
Onboard the sleek Ventus Australis or Stella Australis, days unfold in a rhythm of discovery: morning Zodiac landings in ords or forests, a ernoons tracing the wake of explorers like Darwin, evenings with a glass of Chilean wine as mountains slide past the lounge windows. With just 200 passengers, the ships feel more like oating private clubs than traditional cruises, intimate enough that you’ll recognize most faces by the second night.
Each day o ers a new stage. One morning you’re stepping onto a beach dusted with frost, following naturalists through Magellanic forests scented with moss and history. Another, you’re dri ing in a Zodiac toward Pia, Águila, or Condor Glacier,
where the ice groans and calves into turquoise waters—or holds itself in perfect, cathedral-like stillness. Standing before these frozen giants is less like sightseeing and more like attending nature’s own opera.
Sometimes the route takes you through Glacier Alley, where a procession of icefalls tumbles from the Darwin Ice Field into the Beagle Channel. At Wulaia Bay, once home to the Yaghan people, a guided hike rewards you with sweeping views of the Darwin Mountain Range and stories of the region’s earliest inhabitants. And then there’s Cape Horn—o en shrouded in mist and myth—where the Atlantic and Paci c meet in a swirl of waves and history. When the weather allows, stepping ashore here feels like touching the edge of the world.
And then there are the penguins. At Tucker Inlets or Magdalena Island, hundreds of Magellanic penguins waddle, preen, and squawk, entirely unbothered by your presence. They have the right of way, and they know it. Every so o en, one pauses to size you up as if

you’re the exotic species here.
Evenings unfold without hurry. This isn’t a voyage of Broadway revues or midnight bu ets. Instead, conversation ows in the lounges, where panoramic windows frame ords lit by moonlight. Guides—gi ed storytellers—share tales of indigenous cultures, early expeditions, and the wild resilience of life at the end of the world. Cabins are understated but elegant, each with a picture window framing ice-crusted peaks or the improbable colors of a Patagonian sunset. You fall asleep with the so roll of the ship, knowing tomorrow holds another wild corner of Earth few will ever see.
Meals feel like edible postcards from the region: king crab from the Beagle Channel, Patagonian lamb, southern hake, berries from local farms. Breakfasts are continental; lunches, bountiful bu ets with themed spreads—Italian, Asian, Chilean, and international fusions—at the chef’s creative whim. Dinners are four-course performances of fresh-caught seafood, slow-roasted meats, or vegetarian creations, each ending with a dessert worth lingering over. Carmenère ows freely, and the open bar keeps spirits high from late morning to midnight. Special diets are handled with the same precision as navigating the Beagle Channel. Every bite feels like another way to taste the place you’re in.
For South Floridians, September and October aren’t just months—they’re endurance tests. Patagonian air is the antidote: a full-body reset, crisp and clean enough to make you stand taller. Here, “cool” is more than a temperature; it’s the luxury of silence, of slowing down enough to watch sunlight slide across a glacier or to feel the ship tilt into a curve of the channel. Australis doesn’t just take you to Patagonia—it immerses you in it. Your ship is a base camp for exploration, but with hot showers, ne wine, and cuisine that makes you grateful for the day’s
FOR SOUTH FLORIDIANS, SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER AREN’T JUST MONTHS—THEY’RE ENDURANCE TESTS.
PATAGONIAN AIR IS THE ANTIDOTE: A FULL-BODY RESET, CRISP AND CLEAN ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU STAND TALLER.
journey.
Packing for it is simple: waterproof, windproof outerwear; layers for warmth; waterproof boots; gloves, scarf, and hat; sunglasses; and a readiness to embrace the elements. The weather can shi in minutes, so you’ll want to be prepared for sun, snow, and spray all in the same a ernoon.
Australis’ eco-minded approach keeps its footprint as light as possible. Small-ship capacity limits environmental impact, itineraries are designed to protect fragile ecosystems, and sourcing is local whenever possible. That Patagonian lamb on your plate? It likely came from a nearby farm. The berries in your dessert might have been picked just days earlier. When you disembark, you carry more than photos. You take home the hush of snow falling on the Beagle Channel, the tilt of a penguin into the wind, the feel of glacial air against your skin. Back in Florida, when the humidity wraps around you again, you’ll remember that you once chased another kind of summer to the very edge of the world—and found it.

WOMEN OF INFLUENCE
LEADERS WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SOUTH FLORIDA BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
JENILSA CASTILLO
VICE PRESIDENT, HUMAN RESOURCES
4 MEDIA CENTRAL
4mcentral.com | 561-510-6864
What aspect of giving back gives you the biggest satisfaction?
Giving back has always been woven into the fabric of who I am. The most ful lling part of giving back is knowing that I’m helping someone else see what’s possible beyond their current circumstances. Whether it’s mentoring students, supporting fellow professionals, or creating opportunities within my workplace, nothing compares to the reward of li ing others up, especially those who remind me of my younger self.
What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader?
As Vice President of Human Resources for a company that spans several businesses globally, and as a certi ed life coach, I strive to lead with empathy, transparency, and authenticity. A great leader, to me, empowers others to lead in their own right. I believe in building cultures where people feel seen, valued, and supported—where innovation is encouraged and personal growth is prioritized.
What’s a piece of advice you would have given to your young self?
Trust your voice and own your journey, even when the path isn’t clear. Don’t shrink yourself to t expectations or wait for the perfect moment to take a leap. Every challenge will shape your resilience, and every setback will teach you something essential. You don’t have to have it all gured out to move forward—just start. The con dence, clarity, and impact you’re seeking will grow as you do. Stay grounded in your values, lead with compassion, and never underestimate the power of showing up fully as yourself.
What’s your favorite piece of wisdom?
One of my favorite pieces of wisdom is: “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” That philosophy is what guides my civic and personal commitments. I’m especially drawn to causes that support education, women’s empowerment, mental wellness, and access for underserved communities. I’ve volunteered consistently since I was a teenager, and that passion has only grown stronger with time.

BRENDA D. FORMAN
BROWARD COUNTY CLERK OF COURTS
What aspect of giving back gives you the most satisfaction?
Giving back gives me joy. There’s a saying, “You should never forget where you come from”—humble beginnings is how I started in life, and once you have seen that side of life, I chose to stay humble and always in a position to help when and where I can. Seeing smiling faces of those that I have helped is an honor. I just love what I do.
What inspires you on a day-to-day- basis?
Being a woman of faith and a breast cancer survivor, I thank God for giving me another day of life to be able to help those that I can. The question I ask of my God is, “What will you have me to do today to be of service to someone?” Just this one simple question inspires me for the rest of the day. I never know who I may bump into that will need my help.
What is your favorite piece of wisdom?
“Stay humble in everything you do.” You can become whatever your heart and mind tell you you can do. Whenever you succeed in life, always look back to see who you can help along the way.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?
Being an American Black woman in the world of professional/successful men. Breaking that glass ceiling was a joy and an honor.
What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader?
Striving to be a great leader is always a challenge. I am a strong woman of faith. Striving to be a great leader is a day by day, step by step journey. A famous quote by John C. Maxwell is “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”

KASSIDY ANGELO
MANAGING DIRECTOR
GIOIA HOSPITALITY GROUP
620 S Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 kassidy@gioiahp.com
What’s your favorite piece of wisdom?
There’s no such thing as luck. You might be in the right place at the right time, but unless you stay consistent and put in the work, success won’t come your way.
What inspires you on a day-to-day basis?
What inspires me every day is building something meaningful with my family. Growing Daniel’s and Gioia Hospitality alongside my father, Tom Angelo, is more than a business—it’s a legacy rooted in tradition and our family’s roots.
Launching Daniel’s in Fort Lauderdale was the beginning. Expanding into Miami—by rebranding a restaurant our family owned for seven years—allowed us to bring the Daniel’s experience to a vibrant new audience.
Each city o ers something unique: Fort Lauderdale is home, while Miami pushes us to innovate. What truly drives me is watching our team grow with us—people who believe in the vision and bring it to life every day. Knowing we’re building something lasting, together, is what keeps me going.
What inspired you to step into the family business and grow the hospitality brand alongside your father?
I started my career at J.P. Morgan, where I gained valuable business experience. When the opportunity arose to open a restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, my father and I launched Daniel’s, A Florida Steakhouse—creating a brand rooted in our shared values.
Our focus on local sourcing was inspired by summers spent in Puglia and Basilicata, Italy, where my father’s family is from. That connection to our heritage continues to guide our approach to hospitality. Building Daniel’s and Gioia Hospitality has been incredibly rewarding. It’s a demanding business—requiring long hours, strong leadership, and a commitment to team and guest experience—but doing it with my family makes every challenge worth it.

What aspect of giving back provides the biggest satisfaction?
To create meaningful impact and to accomplish results that would not have been possible without investment of time, talent and treasure. Commitment to and collaboration with excellent non-pro ts who serve our community o en yields wonderful results. It’s really the “but for” philosophy, which is a reminder that every person can make a di erence.
What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader?
To be authentic, to nurture and sponsor talent, and to be a servant leader. There are many great leaders who lead di erently, so it is important to show that you can be yourself, embracing your unique mix of strengths and be an e ective leader. It is imperative to seek out, identify and nurture high-potential talent and essential to then support their growth, so you can build succession and enhance careers. Finally, work alongside as well as from the front and be aware that sometimes it is most e ective to lead from behind.
What’s a piece of advice would you have given to your younger self?
Advocate for yourself and seek sponsors—identify and cultivate your skills and strengths and be prepared to articulate them when the door of opportunity is in view or opens. Never assume that excellent work is always rewarded or that your dreams and aspirations are known without them being expressed.
What’s your favorite piece of wisdom?
My father’s favorite quote is very simple, yet the most profound: “There is no right way to do the wrong thing.” A strong moral compass is the best guide to making the best decisions and travelling the most rewarding paths.

What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader?
A balance of integrity, communication, ambition, and adaptability. A great leader is someone who not only has a forward-thinking mindset but who is able to both inspire and guide others towards a shared company goal.
What’s a piece of advice you would have given to your young self?
The advice I would share with my younger self is to empower people. It is one thing to explain the vision of a company to an employee and train them for a job, but empowering someone to take ownership of their work ensures success for both.
What aspect of giving back gives you the biggest satisfaction?
The greatest satisfaction I get from giving back is knowing I’ve made a meaningful di erence in someone’s life, whether it’s o ering
AMANDA ANGELOPOULOS
support during a di cult time or simply making someone feel seen and valued. It’s the connection, the gratitude, and the ripple e ect of kindness that drives me. Giving back reminds me that even small e orts can have a powerful impact, and that ful llment stays with me far longer than anything material ever could.
What’s your favorite piece of wisdom?
I live by “where there’s will, there’s a way.” Not in the sense that everything will be easy if you just try hard enough or by forcing things to happen—it’s about intentions, being creative, resourceful, and determined in nding a path towards what you want. Whether you’re navigating personal challenges or chasing big dreams, that inner re—the will—is what moves mountains. I’ve seen it in my own life and in the people I admire most.

JOY TRIGLIA
SOUTH FLA LUXURY REAL ESTATE ADVISOR, 40 YEARS TRIGLIAKNIGHT , PREMIER ESTATE PROPERTIES, INC. 2424 E. Las Olas Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301 joytriglia@gmail.com | 954-647-9073
What inspires you on a day-to-day basis?
Each day, I’m inspired by the opportunity to be better than I was the day before—not just in what I accomplish, but in how I show up for others. I believe in ending every day knowing I’ve made a meaningful di erence, whether by helping, teaching, giving, sharing, caring, or simply making someone feel seen and valued. It’s not about grand gestures—it’s about being intentional, consistent, and human. That daily purpose is what keeps me moving forward.
What’s your favorite piece of wisdom?
Stay true to who you are. Never let success, money, or outside in uence compromise your values or integrity. Stand up for what’s right—even when it’s hard, even when it costs you. In the long run, doing the right thing is always a win. Character matters. There is strength in walking with honesty, pride, and purpose.
What is the biggest challenge you have had to overcome?
Navigating dishonesty in an industry I’ve loved since I was 18 has been a de ning challenge. I’ve watched the business landscape shi —what was once built on trust, handshakes, and mutual respect now demands everything in writing, backed by ironclad contracts. I’ve had to adjust how I operate to protect my work and my team. I will never compromise who I am. I believe in doing the right thing, always honoring my word, and leading with integrity. That will never change.
What civic, personal, or charitable cause most attract your attention?
I’m especially drawn to causes that support survivors of sexual violence and those a ected by natural disasters, having personally experienced both. Rising from that kind of devastation instills a deep sense of purpose—and a responsibility to help others nd their way forward. I support these causes because I know rsthand what it means to survive.

What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader?
As a producer leader supporting organizations with their employee bene ts and insurance needs, I believe great leadership is rooted in empathy, consistency, active listening, empowerment, and grit. These qualities not only shape how I lead but also how I build trust and long-term relationships with clients and colleagues alike. Early in my career, I was fortunate to have a mentor who saw potential in me before I knew what I was capable of. That experience le a lasting impression. It taught me the power of believing in others and the importance of creating space for people to grow. Today, I strive to lead in a way that gives aspiring associates the same opportunity to ourish—by listening deeply, o ering consistent support, and empowering them to take ownership of their growth. Leadership, to me, is not about having all the answers - it’s about showing up with resilience, staying grounded in purpose, and helping others rise with you.
What inspires you on a day-to-day basis?
I’m inspired every day by the opportunity to make a real di erence for my clients. Helping them navigate their employee bene ts and insurance needs in a way that brings clarity and con dence is deeply ful lling. What is your favorite piece of wisdom?
A favorite piece of wisdom I live by is: “Do the right thing— every day, every time and for everyone.” In my work, integrity means putting the client’s best interest rst, every time. That principle has guided me through complex decisions and built the kind of trust that lasts.

What inspires you on a day-to-day basis?
(Dr. Faith) As an aesthetics physician with a foundation in family medicine, I’m inspired daily by the opportunity to care for the whole person—inside and out. My medical background allows me to look beyond surface-level concerns and cra treatment plans that enhance external beauty while also supporting overall health, con dence, and vitality. Seeing patients feel both refreshed and empowered is what makes this work so meaningful to me.
(Rachel) My children—the way they approach life each day with bright eyes, a fresh outlook, and excitement about what comes next. Also, my boss, Dr. Shino Bay. He is passionate about everything—forever learning, growing, and challenging himself and others. He never stops moving forward. He works hard, plays hard, and lls every day to its limit.
What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader?
(Kelly) I strive to lead with con dence, calmness, and passion— always keeping my ego in check. I believe in leading with love and open-mindedness, being the type of leader I would look up to myself. My goal is to inspire trust, encourage collaboration, and create an environment where everyone feels valued.
What’s your favorite piece of wisdom?
(Dr. Faith) “Do no harm” is my guiding principle. In aesthetics, it means avoiding trends that compromise health and focusing instead on safe, evidence-based practices that respect each patient’s unique anatomy and well-being. Subtlety, intention, and safety lead to the best outcomes, and this philosophy keeps me grounded in every decision I make.
(Rachel) “If you are going to do anything, do it to the best of your ability or don’t do it at all.” – My mom.
And, “The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.” – Marcus Aurelius.

It keeps me grounded in my purpose and motivated to continue learning and improving.
What’s your favorite story or lesson that guides you?
(Kelly) I o en return to the story of “The Chinese Farmer.” Its lesson is that you cannot judge events as good or bad in the moment because each experience serves a greater purpose in shaping who we become. This perspective helps me stay grounded and open-minded, trusting that every challenge and success is part of a bigger plan.
What’s a piece of advice you would have given to your young self?
(Rachel) I would have told my younger self to always strive for perfection, but to understand that it does not actually exist.

What inspires you on a day-to-day basis?
Helping people inspires me—it’s as simple and as powerful as that. Every day at BH Laser Tattoo Removal, I meet individuals from all walks of life who come to me with a story, a challenge, or a goal they’re striving toward. Watching their faces light up when they start to see results, hearing them talk about the opportunities they now feel ready to pursue, and knowing that I played a role in their transformation— that’s what fuels my passion. I’m also inspired by my own journey: leaving a demanding career in the medical eld to build a business that not only ful lls me professionally but also gives me the freedom to help others in meaningful ways.
What aspect of giving back gives you the biggest satisfaction?
Helping those in need—especially the most vulnerable— gives me the deepest sense of ful llment. Through my work at BH Laser Tattoo Removal, I o en meet people who feel trapped by something from their past, whether it’s a visible tattoo that no longer represents who they are, a permanent makeup procedure gone wrong, or a scar they want to heal. My Rewrite Your Story program o ers free tattoo removal for individuals whose markings may hold them back from jobs, education, or personal growth. Being able to help them reclaim their con dence and self-image is life-changing—not just for them, but for me too. Knowing that my business can be a vehicle for positive change is what keeps me committed to giving back.
What civic, personal, or charitable causes most attract your attention?
I’m especially drawn to supporting Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and breast cancer awareness nonpro ts. Having worked for many years in the mammography eld at respected hospitals like Memorial and Holy Cross, I’ve seen rsthand the impact early detection and compassionate care can have on saving lives. Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital o ers exceptional pediatric care with heart, while breast cancer nonpro ts provide crucial screenings, treatment resources, and survivorship programs. My background in medical imaging gave me a deep appreciation for these organizations—not only do they heal, but they also empower patients and families to face the future with hope and strength.

GISELLE CHEMINAND
PRESIDENT & CEO
GCI WORLDWIDE CORPORATION
401 East Las Olas Blvd., Suite 1400, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 gciwcorp.com | 954-522-4410
As an INC 5000 honoree, leading one of the fastestgrowing companies in America, you understand how to grow with speed. What advice would you give for anyone who wants to grow quickly in any area of their lives?
I would say invest in yourself for your personal and professional development; that is what I have always done. One of the most important qualities required to move quickly and succeed in any eld is the ability to make rapid decisions. Many people dwell in uncertainty and self-doubt longer than necessary or get stuck in analysis paralysis and procrastinate making decisions, let alone doing so quickly. As Socrates said: “Know thyself.” I would add, “Change thyself.” Improve yourself, unleash your con dence, and expand in areas where you are not yet developed. When you grow within, the pace of success increases in di erent aspects of your life experience. You will grow quickly and feel great about overcoming inner and outer barriers and becoming who you were meant to be faster.
What is one of the qualities you nd essential to achieve success as a leader?
I think one of the most important qualities is the ability to be true to yourself, to be authentic. “Be yourself; everyone else is taken!” Everyone’s path and story are unique. What works for someone else may not serve you as well at that moment in your life experience. Being able to always follow your inner compass and check within yourself whether that path ful lls you is extremely important. That doesn’t mean you cannot be coached by someone who is ahead of you; on the contrary, it is smart to learn from others’ expertise and be guided, which saves a lot of pain. What I mean is, no matter what leadership style you demonstrate, ensure it is an expression of your most authentic self. Being yourself should be easy; trying to be someone else is hard. Focus on being yourself. Evolve who you are, lead from within, always coming from self-respect. True leadership starts when you lead yourself to success with love and compassion, and then you can do the same with others.

TRACI MILLER
SVP CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS I SHAREHOLDER
MILLER CONSTRUCTION COMPANY
5750 Powerline Road Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309
What’s a piece of advice you would have given to your younger self?
I actually did this exercise and wrote a letter to my 21-year-old self a few years ago. I use it o en when I talk to women’s groups. Choosing your spouse or signi cant other wisely is at the top of my list. That person will in uence your decisions and can have an incredible impact on your life. Also, learn from others you admire and respect—see how they lead their families, their businesses, their lives.
What aspect of giving back gives you the biggest satisfaction?
I don’t think “satisfaction” is the right word. I have such gratitude that I can give my time, talent, and treasure. My parents, Tom and Ginny Miller, showed by example what contributing to our community meant, and they took my sister and me along. So giving
back is part of who we are. However, as much as I enjoy being able to give nancially, the days when I’m boots-on-the-ground working directly with people are the best! I love a good “Rebuilding Together” day, making improvements to the home of an elderly woman or a veteran—or reading to a class of second graders with Women United of United Way. That’s the good stu .
What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader?
At Miller, I lead by trying to make every team member feel valued and appreciated. I’m very intentional in my actions because a great culture must be continually cultivated. I love to give someone a personal note of thanks or gi them with something I’ve won at an event that I know they would enjoy. On organization boards, I lead by in uencing others to consider decisions through the lter of ful lling the organization’s mission, avoiding mission-creep.

Showing up consistently each day with a clear vision and unwavering commitment to our mission are qualities I believe every great leader should embody.

SAMANTHA BARTLETT & PAOLA PINTO
CO-FOUNDERS
SOLSHINE STATE OF HAIR
hello@solshinehair.com | (855) 766-6842 @solshinehair | solshinehair.com
What inspired you to create a haircare line and why now?
Solshine Hair was born out of real-life experience behind the chair and behind the scenes. Samantha has spent years running a busy Florida salon and being in the beauty industry, while Paola has helped build beauty brands and create products. We kept seeing the same thing: frizz, heat, and humidity ruining good hair days. Florida’s climate is no joke, and most products just weren’t cutting it. So we decided to create a solution that actually works. Solshine is performance-driven, Formaldehyde FREE, fun, and made to thrive in the toughest weather. If your hair can look good in Florida, it can look good anywhere.
How do your strengths as co-founders complement each other?
We’re the perfect balance of salon-side and strategy. One of us works directly with clients, knowing exactly what hair needs on a daily basis. The other focuses on product development, logistics, and brand-building. We trust each other’s expertise and stay in our lanes, which keeps things running smoothly. We’re aligned in vision
but di erent in skill sets, and that’s our superpower. One brings the sparkle, the other brings the shine.
What does innovation in beauty look like to you?
It means solving real problems with clean, e ective formulas that actually work. For us, that meant saying goodbye to harsh chemicals and hello to ingredients that perform in heat and humidity. But innovation is more than formulas—it’s about connection. From our scents to our packaging to how we show up online, every detail is thoughtful. Solshine isn’t just a haircare brand—it’s a MOVEMENT to help people feel con dent, seen, and celebrated.
What inspires you on a day-to-day basis?
We’re inspired by the people using Solshine in their everyday lives. Helping someone fall in love with their hair again? That’s the best feeling. We’re also motivated by the example we’re setting— building something meaningful as women, as moms, and as founders, right here in Florida.
SONDRA DANE
MORTGAGE LOAN OFFICER
NMLS329320
954-632-3393 | sondradane.com
What inspires you on a day-to-day basis?
I am inspired by many things and deeply grateful each day for the life I’ve been fortunate to lead. Over the course of my 37-year career in mortgage origination, I’ve found immense satisfaction in helping clients achieve their homeownership goals while forging deep relationships with my Realtor partners and Title partners along the way. While I truly value every relationship I’ve built, there’s something especially meaningful about working with rst-time homebuyers. Helping make the dream of homeownership a reality continues to inspire me every single day.
What qualities do you strive for to be a great leader?
To be a great leader, I strive to live by the principle of serving others before self. True leadership is not about holding a title—it’s about how you treat people, how you show up, and a foundation of authentic kindness, not just business. Leadership means leading by example, li ing others up, and making decisions guided by integrity and empathy. Every day, I work to embody these values—knowing that real in uence comes from actions, not authority, and that service is the heart of leadership.
What piece of advice would you have given your younger self?
If I could o er advice to my younger self, it would be this: slow down and savor every moment. Looking back on my journey—from a short-lived career in dance and musical theatre to a long, ful lling path in mortgage origination—I’ve learned that patience is powerful. I would remind myself to embrace the journey, not just the destination. Every experience, whether it brings joy or challenge, holds a lesson. Enjoy the process, stay present, and allow each chapter to shape you. Growth comes from both success and setbacks— so take your time, trust yourself, and always keep learning.

ASHLEY BOXER
FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT
THE BOXER STRATEGY
100 Southeast 3rd Avenue, Floor 10 Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33394
954-744-0045
What qualities do you strive for to be a great leader?
Above all, I govern myself with authenticity, empathy, and transparency—qualities that build collaboration, meaningful impact, and trust. I also know that clear, consistent communication is essential, and understanding one’s willingness and ableness, especially across a corporate world that presently has ve generations in it. I lead with emotional intelligence and kindness, meeting people where they are and recognizing di erent approaches. I also strive to be a forward-thinker, anticipating needs and challenges.
What’s a piece of advice you would have given to your young self?
“You get out what you put in.”
Earlier this year, I was at an event and heard someone give this nugget of wisdom. It’s a profound piece of advice that resonated with me—something that every young person should hear, feel, and understand. I would tell my younger self that there is absolutely no substitute for showing up with hard work, integrity, and respect, and that, throughout life, nothing is owed to you.
What civic, personal, or charitable causes most attract your attention?
I am attracted to causes that support my passion for building stronger, healthier, and sustainable communities. Currently, I serve as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors at Pace Center for Girls Broward, where we focus on helping atrisk girls build brighter futures. I also sit on the Boards of Zoo Miami Foundation and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, and I’m honored to serve on steering committees for Broward Health Foundation, Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, and United Way of Broward County. Lastly, I am a proud member of Florida Blue Key, a Lifetime Member of Leadership Florida, a member of Connect Class 10, and a member of Leadership Broward Class XXX.

LORI WINKLER
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, CHIEF HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER, SECTION 16 OFFICER, ZIMMER BIOMET PRESIDENT, ZIMMER BIOMET FOUNDATION (NYSE: ZBH)
What qualities do you strive for in demonstrating great leadership?
I focus on clarity, consistency, commitment, and courage. I strive to be clear and direct so that expectations are not ambiguous, and I think it is important to ensure people are heard. Consistency means I show up the same way regardless of my audience— whether it’s a board, leaders I coach, or front-line employees. I demonstrate commitment by ensuring my say/do ratio is high, which builds credibility and trust. And courage, to me, means making the tough calls and standing my ground—even if I stand alone.
What is your favorite piece of wisdom?
Both of my parents worked when I was growing up, so I absorbed a strong work ethic early. I started working when I was 14—babysitting, serving as a summer camp counselor, and
waitressing. I earned a scholarship; I knew college wouldn’t happen unless I made it happen. My parents always said, “No matter the job or for whom you work, do more than what’s asked of you and treat everyone with respect.” This advice has served me well throughout my career. I over-index on grit and common sense— solve the problem, don’t overcomplicate it—and I stay grounded in who I am and where I come from. These values carried me from administrative assistant (a position I loved) all the way forward.
What inspires you on a day-to-day basis?
I am inspired by small, unglamorous acts of discipline—showing up, following through, making a quiet impact. What matters most to me is helping others feel seen and supported. I am not de ned by my title; I am de ned by how I listen and how I act. When people know they matter to you, everything else falls into place. Win their hearts, and the rest follows.

JENNIFER STEVENS
VICE PRESIDENT OF HEALTHCARE
JOHN KNOX VILLAGE OF FLORIDA,
INC.
700 SW 4th Street
Pompano Beach, FL 33060

What aspect of giving back gives you the biggest satisfaction?
As the leader of the healthcare team at John Knox Village—an award-winning Continuing Care Retirement Community in Pompano Beach serving more than 1,000 residents across independent living, skilled nursing, and assisted living—it’s my honor to connect with our amazing residents every day. Spending time with them fuels me to keep going. Listening to their life stories, learning about their careers, and appreciating their many contributions to the world is truly inspiring. I believe it’s essential that our healthcare sta not only care for our residents but also deeply know them as individuals.
What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader?
I believe being open-minded and a good listener are at the heart of great leadership. I also see my role as extending beyond our campus—advocating for older adults on a broader scale. I’m proud to serve on the Board of Trustees for LeadingAge Southeast, representing CCRCs in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. This work allows me to participate in the annual legislative session in Tallahassee, engaging directly with Florida senators and representatives to help shape policies that impact older adult healthcare.
What’s a piece of advice you would have given to your younger self?
Trust yourself and give yourself more credit. In my younger years, I let self-doubt hold me back from recognizing my own achievements. Over time, I’ve learned to value my instincts and my worth—though it’s still a work in progress. My advice? Trust your gut. Strive to be your best, but know it’s okay not to have all the answers. Celebrate your wins—and celebrate the wins of others, too.

What inspires you on a day-to-day basis?
What inspires me each day is the opportunity to create, serve, and upli others through my work. As a woman of faith, I believe my businesses are not just ventures—they are platforms to make a di erence, whether it’s helping women feel con dent, supporting animal welfare, or building community. I’m fueled by the challenge of giving my all in everything I do, knowing that perseverance, integrity, and passion can inspire others to dream bigger. Every morning, I’m reminded that success is not only about achievement—it’s about the lives you touch and the legacy you leave behind.
What is your favorite piece of wisdom?
How you do anything is how you do everything. I believe the small things matter just as much as the big ones because they shape your habits, your reputation, and your results. In business and in life, I’ve seen that showing up prepared, being consistent, and putting care into every detail sets you apart. It’s about holding yourself to a high standard no matter who’s watching. When you approach everything with that mindset, opportunities grow, relationships strengthen, and you create a life and career you can be proud of.
What civic, personal, or charitable causes most attract your attention?
I’ve devoted my life to speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves—especially animals. Serving on the board of PAWS, an auxiliary of the Humane Society of Broward County, allows me to actively champion animal welfare, a cause that has always been close to my heart. In April 2026, I’m honored to chair the PAWS Gala for the second time, alongside extraordinary women who share my commitment. I also serve on the board of the Royal Dames of Cancer Research, supporting groundbreaking work that impacts countless lives. For me, giving back isn’t just important—it’s a responsibility and a privilege of any successful entrepreneur.

What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader?
Vision, discipline, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. I’ve led teams in medicine, launched clinics, and now advise high-level executives. Every success has come from aligning strategic thinking with emotional intelligence—and trusting the science of how our brains lead us. A great leader knows how to optimize their own mind rst. From there, they can in uence outcomes with clarity, not chaos.
What inspires you on a day-to-day basis?
The knowledge that leadership has a ripple e ect. When one high performer becomes more focused, clear, and mentally agile, it elevates their entire ecosystem—team, business, and legacy. That’s why I built a company focused on cognitive performance as the true engine of success. I’m also inspired by my clients’ willingness to invest in their own evolution. Helping them move from reactivity to decisiveness, from burnout to brilliance, is deeply ful lling.
What’s the biggest challenge you had to overcome?
Leaving a secure medical path to build a business rooted in innovation. I traded titles for impact—and in doing so, discovered how to guide others through the same bold leap. There was no roadmap, only intuition, research, and relentless re nement. It taught me how to build from within, a process I now share with executives and investors ready to lead at a higher level.
What’s your favorite piece of wisdom?
You don’t need to hustle harder; you need to think clearer. Some of my best business insights come not from my desk, but from the golf course, where focus, recovery, and mental agility are tested with every swing. High performance starts in the brain—and that changes everything.

STACY RITTER

What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader?
It’s important to listen to your team and let them know that, while you may not agree, their voice is an important one at the table—and that you understand and respect it. Empower the team not only to succeed but also to fail, as we all do, without fear. A good leader surrounds herself with people who are smarter than she is. That’s a true sign of strength, and your team realizes you recognize your own limitations, are not infallible, and can give credit to others.
What’s a piece of advice you would have given to your younger self?
Stop worrying about what people think about you. Not everyone will like you—and, conversely, you won’t like them either—and that’s OK. Surround yourself with those who will li you up and support you. Ignore the naysayers. Ignore the negativity. It isn’t worth your time.
What’s your favorite piece of wisdom?
Don’t let anyone tell you when your turn is—you makea that decision for yourself. It may not work out as you had hoped, but then again, it might. At the very least, you’ll learn an important lesson about yourself and how strong you are. It usually turns out you’re stronger than you think—and stronger than they think you are.
What’s the biggest challenge you had to overcome?
I’m experiencing the greatest challenge of my career right now. As many know, international travel in general is down across the U.S., as many view the country as hostile to visitors. Continuing to market and promote the destination as welcoming to “Everyone Under the Sun” has become more di cult, and pushing through the clutter of negative perception and unwelcoming messaging is a challenge. We know we can overcome it by continuing to be ourselves, but the negative messaging isn’t helpful when tourism is your number-one industry, as it is in Broward.
What charitable cause most attracts your attention?
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a rescue mom of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Currently, my husband and I have three “Cavies,” but we’ve had six in total over the years—every one of them a rescue. As a result, I’ve come to know the amazing volunteers at Cavalier Rescue of Florida, a group of dedicated people who take in rescues from all over the country, foster them in Florida, and provide health care, dental care, spay and neuter services, and more. Many of these poor fur babies have never had such care—or even been treated kindly by humans. CRF does all this and thoroughly vets adopting families to ensure the dogs are placed properly in forever homes where they will be safe and secure for the rest of their lives. CRF survives on donations, and I know rsthand that every dollar goes toward the care of these rescue dogs.

AKIN AYODELE
AREA PRESIDENT – SOUTH FLORIDA ARTHUR J. GALLAGHER & CO. 305.592.6080 | akin_ayodele@ajg.com
Talk about your community service, what you are doing for the next generation and why. I’ve been blessed in my life. It has not been easy, but very blessed, nonetheless. I have overcome obstacles, reached heights in the National Football League (NFL) few can say, and accomplished many of my personal and career goals.
I am very intentional with the organizations I am involved with. Each focus on our youth. Junior Achievement of South Florida is focused on financial literacy and work readiness. My personal foundation, Dream Builders, is about education, extracurricular activities, and nutrition. From Morning Family Foundation, Children’s Harbor, to Pace Center for Girls, I love rolling up my sleeves and getting involved.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
A long time ago, Bill Parcells gave me advice that is with me to this day. Paraphrasing his words, he said: Do not be afraid to be confrontational. What he meant by that was, true leaders confront their challenges and obstacles. You must stand your ground when you are justified but find an area where you can work together for the single goal of winning.
Why employee benefits?
I am in a place in life where I want something exciting that positively impacts people. One way that I can do that is to fall into my “natural space”: outdoor activities, financial wellness, health, nutrition, and strategizing. I can do that on a large scale and impact the community with employee benefits. This industry checked all the boxes. Sapoznik Insurance, A World Company gave me an opportunity to live out my purpose and assist businesses as an advocate as a human capital consultant. That is why I’m excited for the next chapter as I transition to Arthur J. Gallagher, to serve as the Area President of South Florida.

DO HORMONES SUPPORT YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM?
Absolutely! At LowTE Florida®, we know that keeping a patient’s hormone levels optimized can help keep their immune system running normally. As we optimize our hormones, many crucial functions of the body are supported. Everything from how we sleep to how our bodies respond to foreign invaders can continue to function correctly when our hormones are optimized, giving us a better chance to remain healthy no matter what comes our way!

September marks National Skincare Awareness Month—a perfect time to reevaluate your routine and invest in the long-term health of your skin. As a dermatologist, I often remind patients that glowing, youthful skin isn’t about trends—it’s about consistent, science-backed care. Great skin isn’t achieved overnight. Using high-quality products daily and combining them with professional treatments provides support to your skin at every stage, whether you are preventing early signs of aging or targeting specific concerns.

As part of that process of hormone optimization, you are helping improve sleep, which has been shown in studies to strengthen the immune system.
Thyroid optimization is an integral part of the equation. It has been reported in multiple studies that optimizing our active thyroid levels improves our neutrophils and lymphocytes, including our natural killer cells, which help destroy the viral particles
You can also help support your immune system by utilizing the LowTE recommended nutraceuticals:
A strong at-home regimen is the foundation. Medicalgrade skincare lines like EltaMD, Revision Skincare, and ISDIN offer dermatologistapproved formulas that protect, correct, and nourish your skin. From EltaMD’s broad-spectrum sunscreens to ISDIN’s antioxidant-rich serums and Revision’s powerful peptides, these brands deliver proven results.
LOWTE ADK - We encourage optimizing Vitamin D – the research just keeps getting better and better on having your Vitamin D around 60-80 ng/ml (the reference range is 30100) to your bones, teeth, mood and your immune system.
For deeper rejuvenation, in-office treatments can significantly enhance your skin’s tone and texture. Microneedling stimulates collagen production, improving fine lines and scars. When combined with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)—your body’s natural growth factors—it supercharges the repair process for brighter, firmer skin.
LowTE IODINE+, LowTE Probiotic & LowTE DIM – are all also available at LowTEFlorida.com.
Research has shown that optimizing your hormones with Bio-Identical Hormone pellet therapy is protective to the heart, bones, breasts, brain and relationships!
Another patient favorite is the DiamondGlow facial, which exfoliates, extracts, and infuses skin with targeted serums, leaving you radiant after just one session. For those seeking a more corrective approach, chemical peels offer customized solutions for hyperpigmentation, acne, and dullness.
Hormone replacement therapy has been getting a lot of attention lately. Many practitioners go to a weekend course and add BHRT to their practice – without the in depth knowledge and passion of hormone expert Carolyn Zaumeyer, APRN.
Skincare isn’t one-size-fits-all. During National Skincare Awareness Month, I encourage everyone to consult with a licensed professional to create a tailored plan that fits your skin’s unique needs. Because when your skin is healthy, it shows.
At LowTE Florida we provide individualized treatment based on your biochemistry and your medical history. Grounded in science, not guesswork. For more information, visit: LowTEFlorida.com or call 954-791-4498 to schedule a FREE Consultation to see if hormone optimization is right for you!

As a dermatologist, I often remind patients that glowing, youthful skin isn’t about trends—it’s about consistent, science-backed care. Great skin isn’t achieved overnight. Using highquality products daily and combining them with professional treatments provides support to your skin at every stage, whether you are preventing early signs of aging or targeting specific concerns.

Thyroid optimization is an integral part of the equation. It has been reported in multiple studies that optimizing our active thyroid levels improves our neutrophils and lymphocytes, including our natural killer cells, which help destroy the viral particles

A strong at-home regimen is the foundation. Medical-grade skincare lines like EltaMD, Revision Skincare, and ISDIN offer dermatologistapproved formulas that protect, correct, and nourish your skin. From EltaMD’s broad-spectrum sunscreens to ISDIN’s antioxidant-rich serums and Revision’s powerful peptides, these brands deliver proven results.
You can also help support your immune system by utilizing the LowTE recommended nutraceuticals:
LOWTE ADK - We encourage optimizing Vitamin D – the research just keeps getting better and better on having your Vitamin D around 60-80 ng/ml (the reference range is 30-100) to your bones, teeth, mood and your immune system.
LowTE IODINE+, LowTE Probiotic & LowTE DIM – are all also available at LowTEFlorida.com.
Another patient favorite is the DiamondGlow facial, which exfoliates, extracts, and infuses skin with targeted serums, leaving you radiant after just one session. For those seeking a more corrective approach, chemical peels offer customized solutions for hyperpigmentation, acne, and dullness.
Research has shown that optimizing your hormones with Bio-Identical Hormone pellet therapy is protective to the heart, bones, breasts, brain and relationships!

AI ISN’T THE END OF CREATIVITY—IT’S A NEW BEGINNING
You don’t need to hear it from me: AI isn’t just some vague idea on the horizon, or on the cloud (whatever that even is!)? It’s already here, reshaping how we work, think, and connect. And in the world of marketing and PR, it’s not just changing the game. It is the game.
using smart tools to elevate the talent they already have (and hope to retain, for that matter!)—removing tedious bottlenecks so their teams can focus on big-picture ideas, emotional storytelling, and the kind of strategic magic no machine could ever dare replicate.

I’ve never seen a shift this swift—or this exciting. Yes, it’s disruptive. But it’s also a wake-up call: adapt your approach, or risk becoming irrelevant. This has always been a mantra of mine in business; but with things moving this fast, it feels more prescient than ever.
Right now, nearly 70% of marketers are integrating AI into their workflows. We’re using it at my communications firm to move faster, think smarter, and connect more deeply. From drafting content and interpreting analytics to figuring out what really resonates with our audiences, AI has become an essential creative partner. What used to take a team of five and a week of back-and-forth can now be developed, tested, and refined before your second cup of coffee.
But here’s the kicker: AI isn’t a shiny advantage anymore—it’s the baseline. And clinging to old-school models? That’s a fast track to losing business. The agencies that thrive today aren’t replacing humans with robots. They’re
New roles are already emerging— creative technologists, AI prompt designers, data-driven brand consultants. New roles, new chapters, new possibilities.

If you’re a business leader wondering where to begin, start small. Look at what’s eating up your team’s time and ask: Can AI help us get this done faster, better, or more insightfully? Because here’s the truth: AI won’t replace us. But it will replace the parts of the job that no longer serve us—and free us up to do what we do best. Tell better stories. Move faster. Think bigger. That’s the future—or I suppose, it’s the right now.

On July 17, Lifestyle Magazine’s Dog Days of Summer party at the AC Hotel Fort Lauderdale Beach brought the July pet issue to life with cocktails, Tito’s Handmade Vodka’s crowd-favorite “Kissing Booth,” and a parade of stylish pups and owners. Sponsors like Danielle Gaudreau of Salon Bark, Rick Hansen of Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming, and Stacie Weisman of Bloomers Frosé kept tails wagging, while Balloons Galore and More, Print Basics, and The Media Lab set the scene. With advocacy from Humane-Animal Alliance and Tri-County Animal Rescue, plus photo magic from Lorena Cora Pet Photography, the night proved this community knows how to celebrate in style—paws, claws, and all.
