MEET THE SOUTH FLORIDA PIONEERS WHO ARE REVOLUTIONIZING WELLNESS, CARE AND VITALITY

MATTHEW A. LOVE

PRESIDENT & CEO

Nicklaus Children’s Health System nicklauschildrens.org

What excites you the most about recent developments in health care?

The most recent development we are excited about is our a liation agreement with Broward Health to collaborate in delivering world-class pediatric care. Beginning in early 2025, our two organizations will work together to expand and enhance pediatric services across Broward County, with a goal of fully integrating and enriching the pediatric care o erings by the latter part of 2025. This partnership will combine Broward Health’s community-focused healthcare network with Nicklaus Children’s renowned expertise in pediatric care, ensuring families can access comprehensive, high-quality services close to home.

One of the initiative’s key missions is to improve access to primary and specialty care for kids in Broward, the second most populous county in Florida.

This strategic a liation is designed to improve access to high-quality pediatric services for the children and families of Broward County, with a shared commitment to delivering expert, compassionate care closer to home. Through this collaboration, Nicklaus Children’s will become the dedicated pediatric provider at Broward Health’s Fort Lauderdale and Coral Springs locations, ensuring that local families can bene t from world-class pediatric care and specialty treatments without traveling far from home. The two organizations will enhance the breadth and depth of pediatric services in the community.

What are the key di erentiators for your o erings and service?

Nicklaus Children’s is South Florida’s only specialty licensed children’s hospital and health system, with approximately 850 physicians and more than 500 pediatric subspecialists at 34 locations throughout the tri-county area. We are not an adult hospital that also treats children. Everything we do is targeted toward children and adolescents. This is re ected in our expertise, the passion of our physicians, nurses, and sta , and it is woven into the patient journey at Nicklaus Children’s. We are a proud member of the community. We don’t just happen to be in South Florida, we ARE South Florida.

What is the impact of AI for your business/practice and patient education?

At Nicklaus Children’s, we strive to use AI wherever it has a real impact on the patient or our operations overall. We are deliberate in how we approach technologies such as AI and don’t simply use them because it is a cool thing to do. Our mission is too important for that. One exciting example is the use of AI in our newly opened Kenneth C. Gri th Surgical Tower. As one of the most innovative pediatric surgical facilities in the United States, Gri n Surgical Tower combines leading-edge technology with a focus on delivering a compassionate patient experience to ensure that children and adolescents don’t have to leave Florida for expert pediatric surgical care. With 12 advanced and fully integrated operating suites used to perform even the most complex pediatric surgeries, we are using AI to predict processes during operations and surgical instruments are automatically provided to our surgeons based on AI predictions.

Memorial Healthcare System

Chief Medical O cer & EMS Medical Director

City of Hollywood, Florida

rkatz@mhs.net

What excites you the most about recent developments in healthcare?

The potential of technology to improve e ciency and patient outcomes is truly exciting. In emergency medicine, timely decision making and the seamless integration of critical information are crucial for the best care. By leveraging tools such as AI, electronic medical records, and advanced imaging – alongside compassion – we can continue to enhance patient outcomes for our community. These innovations allow for more precise, personalized treatments while empowering healthcare providers to act quickly and e ectively. At Memorial Healthcare System and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, we are already integrating some of these technologies into our daily practice to improve patient care.

What’s next on the horizon that gets you excited about health care?

What excites me about the future of healthcare is the potential for further clinical collaboration in value-based care with an emphasis on improving patient outcomes at the individual and population levels. Value-based care encourages patients to take a proactive role in managing their health through patient education, shared decision making, and continuous monitoring. With a focus on quality outcomes, this healthcare model, combined with AI and other innovative healthcare tools, will ensure that patients receive the best care possible without unnecessary duplication of services. The ability to work more cohesively under a value-based care model will foster advanced innovation and drive healthcare systems to achieve higher levels of patient safety and patient satisfaction.

What is the impact of social media in client awareness and expectations?

Social media has transformed patient awareness and expectations by providing instant access to health information and creating a platform to engage with our patients. It serves as a powerful tool for patient education, creating awareness by allowing patients and their families to learn about their diagnosis, alternative treatment options, and potential complications. Additionally, social media helps us showcase our services for prospective patients. Patient testimonials also provide valuable insights into the patient’s experience. Ultimately, social media empowers patients with the knowledge they need, ensuring we meet and exceed their expectations in today’s digital age.

What are the key differentiators for your offerings and service?

CONCIERGE INTERNAL MEDICINE & CARDIOLOGY 1409 SE First Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316 www.CardiologyFtLauderdale.com

As a concierge medicine doctor and cardiologist, the key differentiators of my offerings and services revolve around providing highly personalized, accessible, and proactive care that prioritizes my patients’ well-being in every aspect.

What is your health-care specialty?

I am a board-certified cardiologist and internal medicine physician. I have a boutique style medical practice located in East Fort Lauderdale.

I take a holistic approach to patient care. By managing the complete picture of a patient’s health, I can tailor treatments and interventions that are best suited for their unique needs. In my practice, I take the time to listen to my patients. My patient panel is intentionally smaller, ensuring that I can prioritize my time and attention to those I serve.

What’s something about your business/practice, or the services you offer, that people may not know about— but should know about?

In essence, my practice revolves around a deep commitment to creating a more meaningful, accessible, and comprehensive healthcare experience. The combination of personal access, holistic care, proactive health management, and an emphasis on prevention means my patients receive the highest quality of care possible—without the usual constraints of traditional healthcare systems.

What do you find growing in popularity among your clientele?

I tend to focus on how to prevent a disease or treat it before it becomes a much bigger issue. The field of cardiology is vast, ranging from the prevention of heart disease to replacing cardiac valves. While I love and appreciate my colleagues who perform life-saving procedures, I would rather my patients never have to undergo a procedure or major surgery to begin with if I can prevent it! I spend over 20-30 minutes with each patient (and in some instances more) focusing on in-depth questions and diagnostic tests and in some instances, genetic testing. By doing this, we are able to potentially get to the root of a condition before it causes major problems.

Can you share an experience with a patient/client that speaks to the core philosophy of your practice/ business?

There are several growing trends that reflect an increasing demand for a more personalized, accessible, and proactive approach to healthcare. Patients are becoming proactive about their health, particularly when it comes to heart disease prevention. There’s a growing focus on nutrition counseling, exercise regimens, and stress management as part of an overall heart-healthy lifestyle.

Patients are also more engaged than ever in shared decision-making regarding their treatment plans. They seek to be well-informed about their conditions and options and want to participate actively in decisions about their care. My patients are not only provided with the latest medical information but are also encouraged to ask questions and voice concerns so that we can make the best choices together. This includes exploring alternative treatment options for heart conditions, such as lifestyle changes, new medications, or less invasive procedures.

My practice is based on communication. By having a small concierge practice, my patients are able to communicate with me 24/7. While the vast majority of the time this is not necessary, there have been a few times where this open communication saved an ER visit and has actually saved a life. A few years back a patient contacted me in the middle of the night with palpitations. This happened previously, so I recommended a heart monitor for her to have at home. This particular night, she had another episode and was able to send the strips from her device right to my phone. She was actually having a malignant arrhythmia and was advised to go to the hospital immediately for treatment. This ability to communicate and send data real-time was invaluable!

4651 Sheridan Street, Suite # 100, Hollywood, FL 33021 954-894-1500 | www.myeyesurgeons.com

What was the most rewarding experience in your profession?

I am a pioneer of five-minute laser cataract surgery and recognized by physicians as a preeminent expert in eye laser surgery. Laser cataract surgery provides far better visual results and safety compared to traditional cataract surgery. Cataract surgery previously was highly invasive whereby the patient had a shot to the eye, and a large incision closed with numerous sutures at the conclusion of the procedure. Now, a laser can perform 90% of the procedure flawlessly in about 30 seconds. From start to finish, this painless procedure takes only five minutes which includes implantation of an intraocular lens (IOL). There are no shots, no stitches, nor any patches! The patient can resume normal activities the very next day including driving, working, and exercising. I personally wore eyeglasses from age 6 until 56 years old, and contact lenses from age 13 until 56, when I had a colleague perform the 5-minute laser cataract surgery with implantation of a multifocal lens on my own eyes, one week apart. I have not worn glasses

nor contact lenses in the seven years since the July 2014 laser procedures. My quality of vision is outstanding for driving, viewing a computer, and reading, including all the focal lengths in between.

There are a lot of health and wellness professionals in South Florida. What separates you and your practice from others in your field?

For decades, South Florida physicians have called me “The physician’s physician.” I have had the honor and privilege to serve as the ophthalmologist to several hundred physicians (and their family members) in South Florida. The physicians in the area know which physicians have certain areas of expertise and utilize this inside knowledge to seek out the best of the best medical and surgical care for themselves and their family members. Additionally, I have physicians, including fellow ophthalmologists, come statewide to seek my care at Eye Surgeons & Consultants, especially for laser cataract surgery and laser glaucoma surgery.

BROWARD BEHAVIORAL HEALTH COALITION, INC. (954) 622-8121

What excites you the most about recent developments in health care?

Broward Behavioral Health Coalition, Inc. (BBHC) is one of the seven not for pro t managing entities in the State of Florida providing behavioral health services to the underinsured and uninsured residents of Broward County. Managing entities are the safety-net for the Behavioral Health System of Care. I am excited about the person-centered approach that we o er in care coordination at the System level in collaboration with our network providers that provide care coordination services directly to families and individuals. This service has tremendously improved access to care and continued support. These services are available to all residents regardless of type of insurance or lack thereof.

What are the key di erentiators for your o erings and service?

BBHC di ers from other healthcare organizations in its exibility to create services that immediately address the needs of families and individuals served. We have created a peer run organization that is extremely instrumental in training individuals with lived experience (Peer Specialists) who can then provide hope to others that are still struggling with their symptoms of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Peer Specialists are now embedded in all the treatment services within BBHC’s network. They work closely with treatment teams to engage, advocate and provide support to those families and individuals needing behavioral health services.

What’s next on the horizon for health care that you’re looking forward to?

Next on the horizon of health care, is to move the needle further in prevention and early intervention by integrating behavioral health with primary health care. Earlier identi cation and intervention of trauma and behavioral health issues are essential for the wellbeing of individuals and families. The availability of virtual or in-person behavioral health screening at doctors’ o ces, childcare centers and schools will help our children and their families perform better in schools, work and the community. A MAN WITH A PLAN

SHANE STRUM EMBRACES HIS DUAL ROLE AS PRESIDENT AND CEO TO LEAD BROWARD HEALTH AND MEMORIAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS DOWN A BOLD PATH FOR HEALTHCARE.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY EDUARDO

organized," he says. "Both systems have strong teams and boards, and that makes a big difference. It’s a challenge, but I’m fortunate to have incredible support at both organizations."

His approach is systematic: a structured daily schedule, clear priorities, and a focus on listening and gathering feedback from both teams. "I make lists every day and roll over tasks if I can't get to them," Strum explains. "The key is staying in constant communication with both organizations and being responsive to the needs of the community."

Under his guidance, both systems are investing heavily in expanding access to care, especially in underserved areas. His leadership is focused on longterm growth and improving patient outcomes. "Our goal is to create a stronger healthcare experience in South Florida by fostering collaboration between the two systems, sharing best practices, and finding ways to enhance the patient journey," he says.

ADDRESSING CHALLENGES AND SEIZING OPPORTUNITIES

As healthcare constantly evolves, Strum views the changes not as challenges but as opportunities. "The biggest task is prioritizing which growth opportunities to fast-track," he says. "We have ambitious plans to build new facilities and introduce innovative solutions that will benefit our community for years to come."

access to emergency care and make healthcare more accessible “by bringing services closer to where people live," Strum notes.

Strum is also focused on harnessing the power of technology to improve patient care. Both Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare are implementing electronic medical records systems that will allow for more seamless communication between hospitals and emergency services. "If a patient comes into our ER that’s been in an accident, for instance, we want to have their medical history at our fingertips, especially in critical situations," Strum explains. "We no longer have to wait for records to be faxed to us or call other facilities. Now, through MyChart, we can see patient information in real-time."

AS HEALTHCARE CONSTANTLY EVOLVES, STRUM VIEWS THE CHANGES NOT AS CHALLENGES BUT AS OPPORTUNITIES.
"THE BIGGEST TASK IS PRIORITIZING WHICH GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES TO FAST-TRACK," HE SAYS.

He is particularly focused on addressing healthcare disparities in South Florida, particularly in maternal care. "In some parts of our community, there’s a real shortage of access to OB-GYN services," he says. "The areas of Lauderhill, Lauderdale Lakes and Oakland Park are actually considered a ‘maternity desert.’ That’s why we opened a new 5,000-square-foot facility in Lauderhill to offer prenatal care and maternity services. By bringing in three OB-GYNs from Broward Health, we are giving women in that area the care they need, when they need it.

"Our goal is to be proactive, to provide services that prevent problems before they start," he explains. "If we can intervene early with things like prenatal care, we can avoid complications down the road, which helps both mothers and babies stay healthy and avoid expensive treatments in the NICU."

Exciting projects also on the horizon include the construction of five new freestanding emergency rooms across Broward County. Memorial Healthcare recently announced two new ERs in Pembroke Pines and Miramar, while Broward Health is moving forward with additional facilities in Holiday Park, Sunrise, and Lighthouse Point. These additions are part of a broader strategy to increase

Memorial Healthcare System has been using this technology for over 14 years, and now Broward Health is investing $250 million to implement similar systems. "This kind of innovation is going to save lives," Strum says. "In an emergency, knowing whether a patient is allergic to a medication can make all the difference."

BUILDING COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS

Strum believes that collaboration between Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare is key to strengthening the region’s healthcare ecosystem. "Both systems have incredible strengths, but there are areas where we can learn from each other," he says. "We’re looking at ways to reduce redundancies, streamline processes, and share resources."

One initiative Strum is particularly excited about is the potential for cross-credentialing physicians between the two systems. "Why not have doctors who are credentialed at both Memorial and Broward Health?” he proposes. “This will allow us to provide more comprehensive care, especially in specialties where we both have strengths."

Joint board meetings are also being held to help both organizations align their objectives and prioritize projects. "This collaborative approach is going to help us move faster and be more effective in achieving our shared mission: ensuring a healthier Broward County," Strum says.

“Many people would ask, Why do we need two systems?” he says. “But think of the brain power of two organizations like this. Working together makes us stronger, gives us great energy, there’s wonderful research being done — it’s a lot of good stuff.

"At the end of the day,” he concludes, “it's all about improving the health of our community."

WORTH THE WEIGHT

2025 KICKS OFF WITH MORE WEIGHT LOSS METHODS AT YOUR DISPOSAL THAN EVER. BUT BEFORE YOU TAKE THE PLUNGE, EDUCATE YOURSELF ON WHAT WILL WORK BEST FOR YOUR BODY, YOUR HEALTH AND YOUR BUDGET. OUR EXPERTS WEIGH IN TO HELP YOU DO JUST THAT.

It’s been a while since we first started being bombarded by those ads blaring “O..O..O..Ozempic!” into our living rooms. Now, there’s a range of weight loss injectables that work on the GLP-1 receptor to help battle excess weight (and elevated blood sugar) and the use of them for weight reduction is no longer a privilege reserved only for those with outsized budgets — although insurance still does not cover them for weight loss. As the new year kicks off, the influence of such drugs is expected to evolve significantly, driven by new developments, broader accessibility (there is an app — actually, there are many apps — for that) and an increased understanding of their benefits and risks.

As research continues, semaglutide (Ozempic) and tirzepatide (you may know it as Mounjaro or Zepbound) may see expanded indications beyond their current uses, leading to new groups of patients benefiting from them. Both are injectable, but there is strong potential for oral versions of both drugs to emerge, making them

more convenient and less intimidating for patients with an aversion to needles. Research into extended-release versions both could reduce the injection frequency from once a week to once a month or even less, further improving patient compliance and convenience.

But while many patients find the ever-increasing availability of the drugs to be appealing, medical experts we spoke to emphasize the importance of using them as part of a holistic program overseen and managed by experts who can address any issues that might occur during a patient’s weight loss journey.

“We do a comprehensive consultation with our nurse practitioner or with me and ask all the right questions,” says Kevin Harrilal, chief operations officer at Medical Anti-Aging in Fort Lauderdale. “We start all of our patients on tirzepatide, so it is our No. 1 seller. We have introduced other products that have come out as well, so if someone plateaus, we might introduce them to a different product.”

Harrilal emphasizes that theirs is a concierge service and medically

supervised, an important distinction from many new services that allow patients to purchase compounded GLP-1s simply by filling out a form online or in an app. “We are not a med spa or just a pharmacy where you get the medication, go home and use it. Our approach includes 30-day, six-week and 90-day checkins to make sure you’re good to continue or to see if we need to make adjustments. If people lose weight too quickly, we lower the dose and back them up under medical supervision.”

Harrilal points out that while many med spas and even chiropractors and acupuncturists can prescribe weight loss medications because their license allows it, they don’t necessarily have the background or knowledge base to assist clients with side effects or issues that may occur. “Depending on where these professionals are getting the drug compounded, patients can end up with nausea, vomiting, welts at the injection site, various immune system responses and reactions,” he points out. “It’s significantly cheaper per vial to use synthetic products, but they don’t work. We work with two of the most reputable compounding pharmacies

in the country. They’re a little more expensive because they aren’t generic or synthetic; they’re using a higher-grade chemical to compound. That’s something else many people aren’t aware of.

If your injections are costing less than $100 per shot, Harrilal advises, you should question where the product is coming from. “Our program costs $1,200 for three months, which is very fairly priced,” he says of Medical Anti-Aging Spa, “but we don’t sell it monthly. You can’t start this program for a month and then get off. It affects your entire body composition. In the first month, we’re getting you used to it. We start at a low dosage, then go up, and determine after that if you have lost what you want.”

ALTERNATIVE METHODS: NO NEEDLES NECESSARY

If, regardless of the wave of success stories we’re bombarded with daily, you just can’t reconcile the idea of a needle-based regimen, there are other alternatives that can result in excellent outcomes.

Jamie Luu, RDN, LDN, is the nutrition and strategy manager for Almased USA, a natural, science-backed alternative to today’s most popular weight loss methods. Made from clean, high-quality ingredients, including 80 potent anti-aging bioactive peptides, Almased is scientifically proven to reduce weight after four weeks, optimize metabolism, detox the liver and support healthy blood sugar, allowing your body to function at its best.

“Whether used on its own or alongside weight loss injections, Almased addresses key challenges like hunger control and muscle preservation,” says

Luu. “Many individuals using injections experience muscle loss, which slows metabolism, and struggle with intense hunger once they stop [the shots]. Almased’s complete protein provides all essential amino acids in the right ratios. This increases fat burning while preserving muscle, helping you lose weight and optimize your metabolism.”

The product is designed to be part of a structured, scientifically researched three-phase meal replacement plan that includes a combination of shakes and solid healthy meals. In the detox phase, all three of your daily meals are replaced with Almased shakes for three days to jumpstart your liver detox and set the stage for optimizing metabolic health. Then comes the weight reduction phase, which entails replacing two meals a day with Almased shakes and eating one healthy, balanced meal. This phase is where the core benefits of Almased take effect, supported by over 30 peer-reviewed studies showing that it helps unclog fat from the liver, optimizes metabolism, enhances calorie and fat burning, improves hunger control and satiety, supports healthy blood sugar levels and maintain healthy cholesterol levels. And finally, the health, youth and performance phase is when you’ll transition to a sustainable lifestyle, so your daily intake changes to include two solid meals and one Almased shake. This phase helps maintain

weight, body fat percentage, muscle mass, and visceral fat levels.”

After reviewing the results with the patient, a collaborative discussion about weight loss goals follows, along with an exploration of various treatment options and identifying the approach that best aligns with a given patient’s needs and preferences. “We emphasize patient participation in developing their treatment plan, as research shows that active involvement significantly improves success in achieving and maintaining weight loss,” Dr. Huda says.

Ongoing, personalized support is a major part of the weight loss journey here. “We conduct weekly check-ins via our innovative telehealth app to monitor progress, ensuring patients are consistently achieving their weight loss goals,” Dr. Huda points out. “These check-ins also help us verify adherence to the customized nutrition plan, as our ultimate aim is not just

weight loss but fostering overall health and well-being. Additionally, our patients have direct access to our team whenever they encounter challenges or require guidance. We are committed to being readily available, equipping them with the tools, resources, and encouragement they need for long-term success.”

As we enter 2025, Total Weight and Wellness is expanding its telehealth services to make them accessible throughout the entire state of Florida, allowing them to provide high-quality support to more patients than ever before.

“Additionally,” Dr. Huda adds, “we are eagerly anticipating the outcomes of clinical trials for new weight loss medications currently in development, which are expected to become available in the near future. These advancements represent exciting opportunities to further support our patients in achieving their health and wellness goals.”

“WE EMPHASIZE PATIENT PARTICIPATION IN DEVELOPING THEIR TREATMENT PLAN, AS RESEARCH SHOWS THAT ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVES SUCCESS IN ACHIEVING AND MAINTAINING WEIGHT LOSS.”

RETHINKING NON-PROFIT STORYTELLING: EMPOWERING VOICES

Nonprofit storytelling has the power to transform the lives of those served. But in my experience, focusing on pity and despair is an outdated approach. Instead, storytelling should focus on resilience and strength, and if done thoughtfully, can inspire action and drive donations.

A More Empowering Approach

• Highlight the Issues: Rather than focusing solely on individual hardships, I suggest delving into the systemic issues that contribute to these challenges. For instance, instead of simply highlighting poverty, discuss the impact of systemic issues or lack of affordable housing.

• Center the Voices of Those You Serve: Give individuals and communities a platform to share their own stories in their own words. This not only adds authenticity but also encourages selfadvocacy.

• Celebrate Achievements and Milestones: Focus on the progress and victories, no matter how small. This helps to shift the narrative from one of perpetual need to one of hope and possibility. Nonprofit organizations including Jewish Adoption and Family Care

Options (JAFCO), Florida’s Children First, and The Holocaust Museum of South Florida in Dania Beach are doing incredible work to support their communities. By focusing on the strengths and resilience of the people they serve, these organizations are creating powerful and inspiring stories. For example, JAFCO highlights the uplifting success stories of children who have overcome adversity, such as youth who have graduated from their programs and gone on to college or successful careers. Similarly, Florida’s Children First, a law practice dedicated to providing legal services for abused, disabled and injured children, promotes their impact of their life-changing work through sharing stories of children who have received justice and of their ability to implement policy changes. The Holocaust Museum of South Florida in Danial Beach focuses its storytelling on survivors, ensuring their stories are shared long after their gone. While emphasizing their resilience and the

importance of remembering the past to prevent future atrocities, the museum also advocates to ensure survivors are well cared for in their final years.

DO YOU HAVE AN ENERGY CRISIS?

MANAGING ATOPIC DERMATITIS & CONTACT DERMATITIS

Are you so tired at the end of your workday that you just want to sink into the couch and be done? Fatigue is the number one reason patients come to LowTE Florida. You’re getting older. You’ve lost muscle tone and some pep in your step, and your sex life isn’t what it used to be. Low testosterone can lead to increased body fat and affect your energy level, mood, sleep, muscle and bone mass, among other factors.

As a dermatologist with years of experience, I have witnessed the physical and emotional toll that atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis can have on individuals. Atopic dermatitis, commonly referred to as eczema, is characterized by dry, itchy skin and often appears in childhood. Genetic predisposition, immune system dysfunction, and environmental factors play a role in triggering flare-ups.

Effective management of atopic dermatitis involves a multi-faceted approach including daily moisturization, identifying and avoiding triggers, and using topical corticosteroids or immunomodulators under medical supervision.

Contact dermatitis, on the other hand, occurs when the skin reacts to direct contact with irritants or allergens. This condition presents as red, itchy, and in amed skin and can be either irritant or allergic in nature. Identifying the specific trigger and minimizing exposure is crucial in managing contact dermatitis e ectively. Treatment options may include topical corticosteroids, wet compresses, and antihistamines to alleviate symptoms.

Many times, optimizing hormones can increase energy for both men and women. For many people, hormone optimization can lead to a nice, delicious sleep - waking feeling more rested and ready to face the day! A simple blood test can prove that it isn’t your brain - you are just not producing as much testosterone as you did a few years back.

Many people try to “self-medicate” their naturally occurring fatigue with energy drinks, coffee, diet pills and even A.D.D. medications. Why not treat the root of the problem with Bio-Identical Hormone treatment?

Testosterone affects energy levels in both men and women. Testosterone levels can begin to decline in women as early as in their late twenties and men’s testosterone can start to decline in their early thirties.

Living with atopic dermatitis or contact dermatitis can be challenging, but with proper care and management, individuals can experience significant improvement in their skin health and quality of life. Dermatologists play a crucial role in diagnosing these conditions accurately and tailoring treatment plans to meet the individual needs of each patient. Remember, seeking professional medical advice and adhering to a customized skincare regimen are fundamental steps towards managing and overcoming the challenges posed by these dermatological conditions.

Research has shown that optimizing your hormones with Bio-Identical Hormone pellet therapy is protective to the heart, bones, breasts, brain and relationships!

Hormone replacement therapy has been getting a lot of attention lately. Many practitioners go to a weekend course and add BHRT to their practice without the indepth knowledge and passion that hormone expert, Carolyn Zaumeyer has.

At LowTE Florida® we provide individualized treatment based on your biochemistry and your medical history using the proven bioidentical hormone pellets grounded in science, not guesswork. For more information, go to: LowTEFlorida.com or call 954-791-4498.

REAL ESTATE POWER COUPLE TRISTAN AND TYLER TUCHOW’S PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY HAS LED THEM TO THE TOP OF THEIR GAME.

Whether you’re looking to buy, sell, find a luxurious short-term rental or someone to manage yours, Tyler and Tristan Tuchow have you covered.

Tyler is the managing partner of Fortune Christie’s International Real Estate on Las Olas and Tristan is the visionary founder and CEO of Luxury Vacation Stays, a whiteglove luxury vacation rental management company headquartered in Fort Lauderdale.

With over two decades of experience as a real estate broker, investor and developer, Tyler has built a reputation as one of South Florida’s premier real estate professionals. He is known for his deep industry knowledge and his ability to connect clients with some of the most sought-after properties in the region.

Tristan’s Luxury Vacation Stays, which features properties in South Florida and the Caribbean, goes far beyond the typical transactional nature of short-term rentals. She and her team of four provide a bespoke service that ensures clients’ luxurious properties receive prompt, impeccable care, much to the delight of discerning guests.

TYLER’S PATH TO LUXURY REAL ESTATE

Before launching his real estate career, Tyler worked for 15 years

in the automotive industry as a finance director and sales manager. His transition into real estate began in 2000 when he started buying and managing properties for his own personal portfolio. He later joined a longtime friend in the business; when that friend moved to Texas, Tyler bought him out and set up a brokerage in a modest 300-squarefoot office.

In 2002, he founded the boutique real estate firm Kensington & Co. Ten years later, he took a leap of faith by relocating to a much larger space at 1038 E. Las Olas Blvd., despite the much higher rent that came with it. The move paid off: Kensington’s reputation flourished, eventually catching the attention of major real estate firms. Tyler ultimately joined Fortune Christie’s International Real Estate, drawn by its strong brand and the leadership of Edgardo Defortuna, the company’s highly respected president and CEO.

But Tyler’s expertise extends beyond real estate sales. A savvy negotiator, he has successfully brokered deals, including assembling a prime property in Edgewater for New York-based developers, which led to a partnership on the Cove Miami project, a 40-story, 116-unit boutique condo with architecture by Kobi Karp. His ability to track down elusive property owners and to close complex deals — even while on vacation, as with the buyout of a 12-unit condo building — has contributed significantly to

his success.

“I always wanted to sort of dip my toe in the water with developing,” Tyler says. “Instead, I got very lucky by being the broker that I am by locating property for clients of mine from New York who were developers. They wanted to find something to develop a great location. So, I was able to assemble property in Edgewater right on the bay.” Another 55-story project is being planned 10 blocks south on 19th Street.

Part of Tyler’s success is being a savvy detective and dealmaker, whether tracking down an obscure overseas property owner or negotiating the buyout of a 12-unit condominium building. The latter deal was finalized while the Tuchows were on a cruise.

TRISTAN’S LUXURY VACATION STAYS

Tristan credits Tyler’s persistence to helping him track her down on Facebook after they had met in passing at a Humane Society event. Their first date was meant to be a Miami Heat playoff game, but she had a broken foot, so instead they watched the game at Bru’s Room in Pompano Beach.

Tristan, who grew up in Kendall, had been working in the medical field selling devices in a subspecialty of cardiology. Because the job involved traveling often, which wasn’t conducive to starting a family, she decided to take some time off.

One day, when their son was

“IF THEY NEED PRIVATE AVIATION, IF THEY NEED A PRIVATE DRIVER OR A PRIVATE CAR, OR IF THEY’D LIKE TO RENT A YACHT, YOU HAVE A POINT PERSON LEADING UP TO AND DURING THEIR STAY.”

about a year old, Tyler asked her if she was interested in helping with the rental of a Harbor Beach property that a client from Chile had purchased. She had experience managing her own properties and brought skills from her management information systems degree.

In the beginning, Tristan launched the properties on Airbnb and VRBO. But with referrals from Tyler, and prospective clients seeing great reviews about her service and word of mouth, the enterprise took off, and today LuxuryVacationStays.com is now the hub of her business.

A key aspect of the company’s approach is the concierge services it offers guests. “If they need private aviation, if they need a private driver or a private car, or if they’d like to rent a yacht, you have a point person leading up to and during

their stay,” Tristan notes. The white glove service extends to helping the property owners as well. “We do everything,” she adds.

Under Tristan’s leadership, Luxury Vacation Stays has gained a reputation for delivering personalized, bespoke services that ensure properties are not only well-maintained but also marketed to attract discerning travelers. Her approach goes beyond the typical transactional nature of vacation rentals, focusing on creating memorable experiences for guests while maintaining top-notch property standards for owners. Luxury Vacation Stays has properties going north into Delray Beach and plans to add more locations in Boca Raton and Palm Beach.

A SPECIAL SYNERGY

The Tuchows’ complementary

businesses intersect in several ways, creating a powerful synergy. For instance, as a licensed real estate broker, Tyler can list Luxury Vacation Stays properties on the MLS, helping to boost visibility and attract potential buyers. This collaboration allows them to serve a broad range of clients — from those seeking to purchase a vacation property to owners who need professional management for their high-end short-term rentals.

Together, the couple has forged a unique business partnership that combines their expertise in real estate with a passion for luxury hospitality. Their shared commitment to excellent service and attention to detail has allowed them to carve out a distinctive niche in the South Florida market.

Now, that is a winning business model.

TAVISTOCK SENIOR VP OF DEVELOPMENT CHRIS GANDOLFO GAMELY FIELDS OUR QUESTIONS ABOUT EVERYTHING FROM HIS OFF-HOURS PURSUITS TO WHAT MAKES THE REIMAGINED PIER 66 WORTH THE WAIT.

WHAT SHOULD WE BE EXCITED TO DISCOVER ABOUT THE REIMAGINED PIER 66?

Pier Sixty-Six has transformed into a world-class luxury destination that beautifully balances its storied legacy with a forward-looking vision for Fort Lauderdale. It’s not just a resort—it’s a vibrant hub for the community, with premier retail, diverse dining and entertainment, and ultra-luxury residences with private club amenities, all anchored by the iconic marina. Pier Sixty-Six is a gateway for locals, visitors and global travelers, combining timeless charm with modern innovation.

WHY HAS PIER 66 ENDURED AS A HALLMARK OF FORT LAUDERDALE AFTER SO MANY DECADES?

Since 1966, Pier Sixty-Six has been a landmark in Fort Lauderdale thanks to its unique architecture, an iconic marina and a rich history of hosting celebrities and community events. It’s where generations have come together to celebrate, connect and make lasting memories. We are excited to be building on that legacy with this reimagined vision.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE INNOVATIONS THAT YOU’VE BEEN ABLE TO DO EXCITING THINGS WITH ON THE WORK FRONT?

At Pier Sixty-Six, we’ve embraced innovation to honor its legacy while shaping its future. From the public marina promenade that fosters community connection to advanced View Glass that enhances comfort and sustainability, every detail is thoughtfully designed. The Zenova Spa & Wellness sets a new standard with the Southeast's first ceremonial sauna, a snow room, and a vitality pool. We’re thrilled to introduce Fort Lauderdale’s first private heated plunge pools on select expansive terraces. The restored rotating Pier Top Lounge pays tribute to its iconic past with breathtaking views. And the superyacht marina accommodates vessels up to 400 feet.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE OFF-HOURS WAY TO ENJOY FORT LAUDERDALE?

I enjoy an evening walk with my family and our dog along Las Olas Boulevard or the beach—it’s the perfect way to take in the city’s energy and the

coastline’s natural beauty. Weekend bike rides down A1A are another favorite.

WHAT’S THE ONE THING YOU’VE ALWAYS MEANT TO TRY OR DO IN THE CITY THAT YOU STILL HAVEN’T GOTTEN AROUND TO?

Every day, I pass the International Swimming Hall of Fame and its striking diving platform sculpture. It’s such a unique part of our city’s history, and I look forward to exploring it.

NAME YOUR GO-TO RESTAURANT IN THE CITY FOR AN IMPRESSIVE BUSINESS LUNCH.

Timpano on Las Olas Boulevard is my top choice. The Italian cuisine is consistently exceptional, and the mussels are a standout. A perfect choice for a business lunch.

WHAT LOCAL CAUSES DO YOU CHAMPION OR STRONGLY SUPPORT?

Giving back is a priority for us. My wife, Lisa, and I are proud to support Florida Foster Care, Habitat for Humanity in Miami and the Urban Land Institute, dedicating time and resources to creating opportunities for others.

FAVORITE VACATION SPOT AND WHY?

Telluride, Colorado, is a magical place. Set in a stunning box canyon, it offers worldclass skiing and endless summer activities.

WHAT’S THE NEXT BIG PROJECT ON YOUR AGENDA?

With the completion of Pier Sixty-Six’s $1 billion first phase, we’re looking ahead to the next chapter of development. We’re focused on building momentum and creating even more spaces that enhance Fort Lauderdale’s global profile.
