Mark your calendars for the Membership Luncheon on August 12th, (note that this is 1 week earlier than our typical 3rd Thursday date) where former Chuck E. Cheese CEO, Michael H. Magusiak, recaps his career in hospitality and discusses Building Business with Global Experience. A current member of the board of trustees an adjunct professor at the University of Dallas Gupta College of Business, Mike retired from CEC Entertainment, Inc. (Chuck E. Cheese’s) as the President and Chief Executive Officer. During his 27 years at CEC, Mike was a integral member of the Executive Management team. Mike and the team turned around the negative cash flow business, took it public in 1989 and operated Chuck E. Cheese’s as a public company for over 25 years until selling to a private equity group in 2014. Prior to joining CEC Entertainment, Inc. Mike worked for Church’s Fried Chicken, Inc. in San Antonio, TX for five years and Holiday Inns, Inc. in Memphis, TN for four years. Mike has extensive international experience. He performed international financial and operational audits with Holiday Inns and expanded the Chuck E. Cheese’s brand globally with successful business partners. His most rewarding aspect of business is seeing people grow both professionally and personally. Mike’s core belief is rooted in his valuing “people as his company’s greatest asset” and long-term business success is attributable to a team of high-quality individuals that develop and implement a strong strategic plan. Register by 5 p.m. on Tuesday August 10th for the luncheon rate of $25 ($40 after that date). Reservations can be made by visiting the Chamber website events page, contacting us at (817) 481-1522, or emailing info@grapevinechamber.org. @GrapevineChamber

GET TO KNOW THE WOMEN'S DIVISION Do you know the Women’s Division? Do you know what we do? Our Mission Statement is "To help our community prosper so business can succeed." We choose to do that by helping our young people in need with school supplies so they are ready to learn and by supporting our seniors with gifts and household supplies around the holidays, as well supporting other causes as they arise. These are things we keep top of mind every day. We focus on the next activity coming up, so when one of our members gathers a little information and puts a graphic together for us, it’s fun to see what that focus has accomplished over the last few years: Yes— that’s over $400,000 of giving back just since 2012! Thank you to everyone who has helped in this journey!! Our next luncheon will be held at the Blankenship Center on Tuesday, August 10th, at 11:45 a.m.. We welcome all visitors! Sign up information is on the Chamber website. If you have any questions, please reach out to me, Sharon Smith at sssmith33@me.com or Susie Howell at Susie.howell@frostbank.com. As I watch the Olympic games, I think about the athletes who have been training much of their lives to be in this perhaps, once in a lifetime showcase. I hope that they each take the time to enjoy the opportunity that could never come again. Besides the training, they each had to make it through the additional year of COVID and the challenges that come with just getting to and through the airport in Japan which made the travel an accomplishment for each. For those of us who never had the Olympics in our sites, we can just appreciate their efforts, tenacity and commitment to their sport. But, at the same time, for those of us in business, during the last 18 months, I look around our community and appreciate the commitment and effort it as taken for companies to keep their doors open, their employees on the payroll and the customers receiving your products and services. It has been a challenge beyond any expectations we could have imagined before 2020. And those challenges continue as businesses work to find employees, and to keep those employees and customers safe, debating on the masks, the mandates and all of the other pieces to the pandemic that comes your way. As your chamber, we continue to try to keep informed of the opportunities that are available for funding, whether it is tax credits for your employees getting vaccines or grants for specific business categories. If you see anything we haven’t shared out there that might benefit other businesses – please forward it to us, because we don’t see it all. Just like the vaccine tax credits, Allison Gilbert of Cover-Tek sent me an email to make sure I was aware of those funds and reminded us to share it with our business community. Because of that, some of our member companies have been able to take advantage of this option. For employees, we will continue to promote the job board on the chamber’s website – so don’t forget to post any jobs you have available there. We are also planning our North Texas Job Fair on September 1st. It is a challenge for everyone, but we will continue to work with you to find solutions. And if you’d like to have a way to get involved and meet more businesses, I encourage you to contact the Chamber to learn about and to sign up for the 2021 Grapevine Membership Event. Two hundred of your fellow members will be working together and “Going for the Gold in Grapevine” on August 17 – 19. Special thanks to Kelly Schwartz with LegoLand / SeaLife for serving as this year’s Chair and Olympic team leader! As the Olympics come to a close on August 8th, don’t forget to plan to enjoy the 2020 Summer Paralympics August 24th thru September 5th. Those athletes are the ones who have overcome challenges beyond anything we in business face and are reaching their dreams in Japan. That is when we realize that we can each appreciate our own battles, and successes, because there are always others out there facing so much more.
