Welcome to the 2026 golf season. We are thrilled to have you as part of our community, where camaraderie and the love of the game come together to ensure Granite Golf Club is the place to be
I am please to announce this years Men’s Committee. I will be your 2026 Men’s Captain, accompanied by Vice Captain Chris Amato, Sasha Singal, Dan Silva, Errol Soriano, and Rino Dambrosio.
We are looking forward to an event filled year with all of the traditional contests returning.
The highlight of the summer, the Gentlemen’s Invitational, will take place on June 25 & 26 A couple of shootout changes will ensure a first-class experience for members and their guest. Announcements and further details on the event will be coming soon.
In addition to the Gentlemen’s Invitational, the one-day Member Guest will return with a fun format and a host of fun competitions prior to teeing off. This event will be taking place August 5 Details to follow
The Ryder Cup will be making its return this year with the successful format for determining teams. Mark your calendars for June 10.
Men’s Days tradition will continue this year on a shorten 9 week schedule to build on the fantastic event line up of years past.
The Men’s Committee will be focused on making all our events a premier experience, and most importantly fun. Your comments and feedback are welcomed, please feel free to reach out to myself or any of the other esteemed committee members.

Reasoning Behind the 2026 Match Play Format and Qualifying Structure
With the PN25 renovation scheduled to begin in mid-August, the 2026 golf season is shorter than usual To ensure that the Match Play events can be completed before the August 16 deadline, Granite Golf Club has adopted a structure that allows for efficient qualifying, timely scheduling, and a fair progression through the match-play brackets. PLEASE NOTE: This format will be used if and when sign-ups exceed 15 teams or players
Granite Golf Club Match Play Qualifier
Granite Golf Club will hold a team or singles stroke play qualifier on Wednesday May 20 to determine 15 of the 16 teams that will advance to the match play bracket.
Qualifying Process
Format: The qualifier will be a Net or Gross stroke play event where teams/players compete against the entire field by counting their best net or gross per hole for the total for the rounds. Players competing as part of a team will each play their own ball, and both individual net scores will be combined to determine the team’s qualifying total These combined scores will be used to determine qualification and seeding for the Four-Ball Match Play bracket This means that you will not have to play with your partner the day of the qualifier
Advancement: The 15 teams or players with the lowest total net scores will qualify for the match play bracket.
Seeding: The qualified teams or players will be seeded based on their net scores, with the lowest net score earning the second seed and so forth. Teams play a two person better ball. The winning team or player from 2025 will receive the first seed.
Handicaps: The course handicap for each player will be calculated at 85% for the qualifier.
New for 2026
In any Match Play Event, if the match has not been completed by the posted date, the following procedure will be used to determine the winner of each draw. On the Monday after the posted date for completion of the match, two members of the Golf Shop Staff will perform a coin toss to determine the winner who will move on. It is hoped that this will keep the matches on schedule and that the event is completed before August 16th. The coin toss selection will go as follows There will be no exceptions to this rule

This event features two teams, Team White vs Team Blue Each team will competing against each other in a Ryder Cup format The teams will be determined by Handicaps The White Team captain is Dan Silva and the Blue Teams captain is Alex Spark.

All Senior, Intermediate and Weekday Only male members are eligible to play.
This event is open to a maximum of 100 players ( 50 per team).

6/6/6 Four Ball Net Match Play
Handicaps for each format to be based on USGA reccomendations.
Teams will play 6 holes of Best Ball, 6 holes of Alternate shot and 6 holes of Scramble.

Scoring
1 point will be awarded to the winner of each of the three formats with an additional point awarded to the overall winner of the match.

Format
Two day member guest You must play both days 54 hole 2-Man NET Best Ball Match play. Teams will be placed in 10 flights of 6 teams based on their combined handicap. Thursday -8:30 am Shotgun start. 27 holes (3 matches) Friday - 10:00 am Shotgun start. 18 holes (2 matches) Winners of each flight will proceeded to a shootout.

There will be 2 Wild Card positions available for the teams with the most points gained on the second day of matches. This team will be eligible for the shootout
New Shootout Format:
All flight and wild card winners will proceed to Hole 10 for a Closest-to-the-Pin competition. Both players will hit their tee shots, from tee decks determined based on flight. The 3 teams with the closest individual shot will advance to an alternate shot playoff, continuing to replay Hole 10 until a winner is determined.

All Senior, Intermediate and Weekday Only male members are eligible to play. Test drivers may play but are not eligible for the trophy. Weekday Associates may play as a Non Competitor.

Shotgun start at 2:00 pm
Format
2-Man Scramble = Player A 35% + Player B 15% of handicap. You can choose your partner, but they cannot be your Men's 4 Ball Net or Gross Match Play partner or Member /Member partner. Each player tees off, select the preferred location and both player play their second shot from that spot. This process is continued until the ball is holed. Maximum of 100 players arranged in 2 man teams.

Objective
Wednesday Men’s Days are designed to encourage participation in friendly, fun competition with social gatherings both before and after the event We encourage you to create your own fourball There will also be two season long competitionsa 9 week season long Reesor Cup tournament and a season long Ringer Board event ( gross and net)
All of the money raised from the entry fee of $5 will be added to the money provided by the Men's prize fund and given out as prizes on Wednesday Play Days
Prizes
Each Week, there will be three individual stableford prizes (1st $100; 2nd $70; 3rd $50) and two closest to the pin contests
For those that stay for dinner (no dinner no winner) we will have a number of Pro Shop draw prizes Finally, there will be an optional net Canadian Skins game ($10 entry fee) open to everyone – Each player receives full handicaps, and if there is a tie between a Net score and a Gross score, the Gross score is deemed to have won.
Stay tuned for information on some fun formats to be announced in season.
Lots of prizes. All contest prizes, including Skins, will be in the form of Club Credits which may be used in either the Pro Shop or Bistro/Bar.
Participation in Reesor Cup and Ringer Board are not mandatory each week. Come out and play whenever works for you.

Scoring and Prizes
Each week, participants will receive ‘Reesor Cup Points’ based on their participation and the position that they placed compared to the others in their Division. Points are as follows

All participants will receive 1 point for participating If there is a tie for any position, the points are divided between the tied players
The player with the highest accumulated points total at the end of the year will be awarded the Reesor Cup Trophy for their division. If there is a tie in either Division, a ‘playoff hole’ is to be played on the final day of the Reesor Cup on August 12th. If one of the players can not attend on the final day, the players may play their one hole playoff in advance, but If the playoff has not been played prior to date and only one player is present on Closing Day that player will be declared the winner of the Reesor Cup In addition to the winner, prizes for the players who finish 1st 2nd or 3rd place in each Division – (1st place $500; 2nd place $250; 3rd place $125).
Your scores from the 9 weekly Reesor Cup Wednesdays are used to determine the winner of the gross and net Ringer Boards. There is only one gross and net Ringer Board for all players – no Divisions. Scoring for the Ringer Boards is based on the season long best score each player posts for each hole during the 14 Reesor Cup weeks (1st Place $250, 2nd place $100)
Trillium Cup
The Trillium Cup is now going into it's 20th season. Granite Golf Club, Magna Golf Club and Coppinwood Golf Club compete in a three-way interclub
This event will see three matches played in different formats throughout the season Eight players from each club (Includes the Club Professionals) will compete for the title of the Trillium Cup
Qualification
Automatic 3 team positions are allocated to the following (Each player will be able to play in 2 of the 3 matches).

Welcome to Match Play
Handicap Rules and Posting of Scores from Match Play Competitions (for the match ladders). All participants in the match must post hole by hole scores for handicap purposes. This includes scores made in match play, in which players have not completed one or more holes or in which players pick up when out of contention on a hole.
TYPES OF MATCHES
Singles Match Play
In singles match play, the match is won by the player who is leading by a number of holes greater than the number of holes remaining to be played After 100% handicap allowances are determined, the higher-handicapped player receives the full difference in Course Handicap between the two players; the lower-handicapped player plays from scratch.
Example: A player with a Course Handicap of 17 receives four strokes from a player with a Course Handicap of 13. The player receives them on the first four allocated handicap-stroke holes.
Four-Ball Match Play
A match in which two players play as partners, scoring their best ball against the best ball of two other opponents Each participant plays their own ball to completion of the hole and the lower score between the two is the "best ball". The team with the lower best ball score wins the hole After 90% handicap allowances are determined, the higher handicapped players receive the full difference in Course Handicap between them and the lowest player. The lowest player plays from scratch
Example: Players have the following course handicaps after the 90% reduction. Player A is 9, player B is 16, player C is 20 and player D is 23 Player A would play off (0) zero strokes, player B receives 7 strokes, player C receives 11 strokes and player D receives 14 strokes. Note: The strokes received in Four-Ball match play remains the same even if the lowest handicap player is unable to play
DUTIES OF THE GOLFER
Arranging the Match
Players must arrange to play their match within the dates assigned for that round of the bracket While scheduling the match assign one of the participants as the individual responsible for booking the tee time. This individual shall also be responsible for notifying the Golf Shop of the match.
Players must make themselves available for multiple dates for each round of the bracket. Failure to provide an adequate number of available dates may result in the match being awarded to the other team/opponent should the match not be played by the final date for matches in that round of the bracket.
Matches can be scheduled by email or text message only. Once the tee sheet is open for the date where the match is to be played the person that was made responsible for booking the tee time shall book the tee time on the Granite Golf website We encourage utilizing the Walk On times if you are unable to book the match on the selected date
When the tee time is booked please add a note to the booking indicating the match play competition it is for and that the tee time is a match so that the Golf Shop can prepare the scorecards in advance.
If you forget to notify the Golf Shop when booking your tee time please notify them as soon as possible prior to the match. The Golf Shop must be notified that it is a match prior to teeing off on the first hole.
New for 2026*** If a match is not played by the stated deadline due to lack of communication, and one party has sent two or more unanswered emails attempting to schedule the match, the responding party or team will be deemed non-responsive In such cases, the party that made the documented attempts to communicate will automatically advance in the match play bracket This rule is intended to ensure fairness and keep the competition progressing on schedule

Prior to the Match
All golfers must verify their handicap prior to the match
All golfers are to obtain their scorecard for the match from the Golf Shop. The scorecard will have included dots at each hole where strokes will be given/received Golfers must verify that the handicap on the scorecard matches their handicap. If using Golf Genius golfers must confirm that the handicap in Golf Genius also matches their handicap. Once each participant has verified that their handicap is correct they shall notify their opponent(s) of their handicap and confirm that the scorecard is correct prior to teeing off
During the Match
Players are to confirm the status of the match after each hole is completed
Once a hole is declared to have been won/conceded by both parties the result of that hole is final. If there is some doubt about the result of a particular hole continue to play the match and resolve the issue with the Golf Shop upon the completion of the round Once a match has been declared to have been won by both sides the result is final.
Match Play All Square After 18 Holes
If the match is all square at the completion of 18 holes a sudden death playoff shall take place and the match shall continue until one side wins a hole. The playoff should start on the hole where the match began and handicap strokes shall be utilized as in the stipulated round.

Hole in One Pool

Registration
Registration will be available online through the Men's Golf section of the website on April 7.
Players can sign up at any time during the year, and will be added to the pool 24 hours after they have signed up.
All male members are eligible to play.
Once registered, you are committed to the pool for the entire event season
Eligible Rounds
All rounds played at Granite are eligible during the above dates, provided that there is a witness to the Hole in One.

Any tee is acceptable
Format
When one of the players who has signed up for the pool gets a hole in one $15 is charged to the other pool members Granite Club account. The person who got the hole in one receives a club credit for the total amount collected.
Ex 101 players signed up for the pool, the person with the Hole in One will receive $1,500 in credit

Various Forms of Play
All forms of play may be gross or net.
Gross Score
The score for either a hole or for the round before a player’s handicap has been deducted. (The actual score).
Net Score
The score for either a hole or for the round after a player’s handicap has been deducted.
Stroke Play
Players compete against the field for best total score
Match Play
Refers to competition hole-by-hole between two players or two partnerships. The side leading by more holes than there are holes left to play is the winner. When considering handicaps, the lower handicap person plays at scratch or 0 handicap and the higher handicap player receives the strokes (difference between the player’s handicap and the opponent’s) 'where they fall’ as indicated on the scorecard For example, a handicap of 22 becomes zero and a 29 receives seven shots for that match.
Stableford
Stableford uses a points system, where the better you score on a hole the more points you receive The goal is to accumulate the most amount of points during the round
Scramble
You may use a team of two, three or four players. A low and medium handicapper should be selected for each team Each person on the team drives, and the best drive is then chosen Everyone hits his or her second shot from where the chosen drive landed. The best second shot is now chosen and play continues in this manner, including on the green until the ball is holed out.
Better
Ball or Four Ball—Best Ball
A match in which two play as partners, scoring their best ball against the best ball of two other players. Each participant plays the ball to completion of the hole and the lower score between the two is the ‘best ball’. The team with the lower best ball score wins the hole.
In stroke play, the total of the team’s 18 ‘best ball’ holes is compared to the rest of the field
Foursome or Alternate Shot
A match in which two play against two, and each side plays one ball. In standard alternate shot, one member of the team tees off on the even- numbered holes and the other member on the odd-numbered holes Each partner alternates hitting their team ball until the ball is holed out
Modified
Alternate Shot (Chapman)
Similar to foursome or alternate shot, except that each player tees off, then switch and hit each other’s ball for the second shots The players then choose the best-positioned ball and play alternating shots until the ball is holed

Respect Time
Ready golf is the most efficient way to play a round
For the honour system - the person with the lowest handicap tees off first. On subsequent holes, the person who scores the lowest score on the previous hole tees off first.
If you decide to play ready golf – then the first person ready may hit if it’s safe to do so
One practice swing should do and be ready to hit when it’s your turn.
To speed up play, finish out a 2 foot putt or less if possible. (No need to mark).
Take no longer than 3 minutes to search for a missing golf ball
Keep up to the group ahead of you, versus close to the group behind you. If the hole ahead of you becomes empty, invite the group behind you to play through 18 holes at Granite Golf should take no longer than 4 hours for a foursome.
On the Course
Quiet on the tee block… and green – respect that your fellow players need to concentrate
Be aware of where your ball landed and head for your ball immediately; then, prepare for your next swing. The furthest person from the hole swings first. Always replace divots when possibly If you cannot replace them, use the sand and seed bottle.
In the sand – avoid grounding your club, rake the trap and, leave the rake outside the trap where it will be out of the way of shots from other players
On the Green
The player furthest from the hole putts first.
Balls may be marked, particularly those on another player’s line. Avoid walking across the putting line of another player by walking around Be mindful of your shadow if tending the flag. The flag may stay in the hole if player chooses.
Repair ball marks - it only takes a few hours for the grass to die
Once your ball has holed out move on to the next tee. Track your score at the next tee block.
Equipment
Leave your clubs, golf cart, electric cart on the far side of the green, closest to the path to the next hole
Food and Beverage
To keep the game in play, order your choice at the 9th tee block or before, and it will be ready to pick it up at the clubhouse on your way by.
