Spring Foraging ID for Beginners

Description: Join a GTCD naturalist on a walk through East Creek Reserve to learn the basics of identifying spring edibles.

When: Thursday, April 24th from 3:00 - 4:30pm

Nature Journaling Series

Description: Connect with the natural world on paper! During this three-part series, slow down and nurture your connection with the outdoors. Each week will focus on a different theme including; nature journaling basics, all senses on paper, and sketching like scientists. Afterwards, you will leave with the tools to confidently continue your nature journaling experience! When: Select Thursdays in May from 6:00 - 8:00pm

Family Geology Hike: Journey into the World of Fossils

Description: Join us for a Family Geology Hike, featuring the Grand Traverse Area Rock and Mineral Club Pebble Pups, where you’ll step back in time on a journey into the world of fossils. Led by seasoned experts in paleontology, this event combines a scenic hike with hands-on fossil discovery, offering participants the chance to learn about ancient creatures and geological wonders of our planet.

Seed Starting Essentials

Description: Join us at the Great Lakes Incubator Farm for an engaging Seed Starting Workshop designed to help you grow healthy plants from the ground up! Participants will learn about seed selection (heirloom vs. hybrid), germination techniques, transplanting tips, organic pest and disease prevention methods, proper soil, containers, and essential practices for maintaining light, temperature, and water balance.

This workshop will explore strategies for extending the harvest season and producing crops throughout winter, utilizing season-extension tools like row covers and hoop houses, and planning your planting schedule for yearround harvests.

Botanical Printmaking

Native Planting & Invasive Species Removal Workbee

Description: Join the Grand Traverse Conservation District and the Northwest Michigan Invasive Species Network in planting native seedlings at Hickory Meadows. We will also hand pull invasive garlic mustard that has been located in parts of the park.

Project Learning Tree & Project WILD k-8 Educator Workshop

Description: Become a certified educator in the nationallyrecognized Project Learning Tree and Project WILD curricula! Engage in a hands-on workshop investigating environmental topics with indoor and outdoor activities. This workshop is designed for formal and non-formal educators. *SCECH’s available upon request.
