Managing Director’s Corner

We’re pleased to announce two new Member incentives at Reunion Resort & Club designed to reward our valued Members when referring business to their Club, Reunion Resort & Club. The first program focuses on increasing the Membership roster at the Club. While we are continuing to experience growth and have seen increased numbers in Membership in recent years, there is still room for more! If you know a Reunion neighbor who does not currently have a Membership, have a friend who is buying at Reunion, or are aware of a local resident who may be interested in our recallable Exchange Membership, please contact Ashleigh Cervellera, Membership Sales Manager, to register your referral at acervellera@reunionresort.com and learn more about the parameters of the referral program, as certain restrictions apply. If your registered referral does join the Club, your will be rewarded a $500 credit on your Membership account for your referral! Many of our Members are still in the workforce, have recently retired or are involved on the board of a business or charitable organizations; many of these companies and organizations plan annual meetings, executive board retreats, awards ceremonies, or golf tournaments. Why not show off your very own Reunion Resort & Club? Members who refer a group booking that consumes a total of 20 or more room nights will receive a 10% commission based on total room revenue for that actual group booking. If you have a group business lead, please contact Anna Renteria, Group Sales Coordinator, at arenteria@reunionresort.com.

We look forward to working together to make Reunion Resort & Club even more successful in the coming months.

Wide Open Tournament What better way to recuperate on New Year’s Day than by playing in the annual Wide Open Challenge? Each year our golf staff takes pride in setting up the golf course to extreme conditions; challenging the men to play from the black tees while the ladies play from the whites. There were many brave souls that attempted to play under these extreme golf course conditions. The players all picked against one of the three pros they thought they could beat. The pros that competed in the event were Justin Inclema, Eric Sargent, and Will Young. Congratulations to all those that turned up and teed off the New Year with us!

Reunion Shootout and Reunion Open (RMS Event)

The Reunion Member’s Series is ongoing through the end of March, so make sure you rack up those points by taking part in the last few events before the Series Championships!

Senior Club Championship We had a wonderful turnout for our first major event of the year, the 2015 Senior Club Championship. There were two flights for the ladies and three flights for the men. The ultimate Senior Club Champions were Roberta Sentel, with a two day total of 156; and Tom Norton, with a two day total of 143.

frankly golf

As you know, putting is 45% of your score. At the Frankly Golf Putting Academy, we want to help you improve this part of your game. Here are three easy ways you can shave strokes off your game. Make sure your putter is properly fitted Most of the putters we use are hand me downs from a relative or bought out of a store and have not been properly fitted for the golfer; as a result, we are invariably using putters that are too long for us and therefore, we need to compensate within our stroke. Here at the Frankly Golf Putting Academy, we make sure that your putter is properly fitted so you can perform to the best of your ability. Take advantage of putter technology Many of us are using blade style putter technology, when in fact, we would benefit from more of a mallet style putter, which helps forgive our mistakes. So make it easier on the green by testing out one of our Frankly Frog putters, right here at the Putting Academy, which will help stabilize your stroke and provide a larger forgiveness zone for your putts. Take a putting lesson It’s time to join the many golfers of varying skill levels that have taken putting lessons from us here at the Frankly Golf Putting Academy. We will help you improve your putting quickly and easily. Unlike the full swing, with putting you can see big improvements in a very short period of time, as well as develop an understanding of how your stroke should move. To book an appointment, please call 407.396.4004 or just call in!

To book a putting lesson at the PAD, call 407.396.4004. Individual and Group lessons are available. franklygolf.com/golfequipmentqaarchive.aspx or stop by the Putting PAD on your next visit to Reunion Resort!

Jubal Jerik

Jubal Jerik, Receives January 2015 Reunion Club Member Recognition Program (MERP) Award Jubal began his career at Reunion in 2006 as a Golf Cart Attendant, and was later promoted to Golf Operations Supervisor. He serves as Outside Operations Supervisor William Tully’s right-hand man at the Nicklaus course.

gath erings | 14

Jubal received multiple nominations regarding his excellent service and friendliness. As one Member indicated, “from my own personal observations, I know that Jubal goes out of his way to ensure that both members and guests have a great experience at Reunion.” At the February Member Reception, Jubal was awarded a Reunion gift card and special name tag indicating that he is a Member Employee Recognition Program recipient. In addition, he will be considered along with future 2015 MERP recipients for one of the annual awards.

Please congratulate Jubal next time your paths cross on his achievement and longevity at Reunion. The Member Employee Recognition Program (“MERP”) gives Members the opportunity to recognize deserving Reunion employees. Every outlet has ballots available for you to nominate and describe why you think the employee should be the next winner. Remember to take advantage of this opportunity and let them know we notice and appreciate their efforts to make us happy to be here at Reunion. Although only one employee receives this monthly award, all of the employees nominated receive peer and management recognition at special employee breakfasts throughout the year. You can submit a ballot for an employee who has demonstrated exceptional service at any time – not just within the month the service was performed. MERP ballots are available at all Reunion outlets, click here to access and submit a ballot online or simply email the Reunion Membership Office at MERP@reunionresort. com. A call for nominations will also be sent by the Membership Office via email once per month to remind you to submit your choice(s) for the monthly MERP award.

Anticipating the evil drop shot There are many shots in tennis that give each of us trouble, but one in particular you always hear people discuss is… the drop shot. If someone has a great drop shot, what can you do? Should you just move in to try and volley, even though they are hitting hard balls too? Should you start lobbing the ball to change the pace and throw them off? You could do any of those, but that wouldn’t necessarily give you a good chance of beating them. The answer is to anticipate the shot. If you can start running for the shot before it is even hit, that will give you plenty of time to not only get to it, but also do what you want. How do you anticipate, you might ask? The first step is to start watching what your opponent’s racquet is doing

during their drop shots. Are they stepping differently while hitting it, are they standing a little more straight, or are they hitting the shot when they have a particular ball? They could be doing any one of those things or they could be doing them all, but one thing is for sure, they will not have as big of a backswing on the drop shot. By simply watching how far they are taking the racquet back, you will be able to tell that they are going to hit it soft. Once you see this, you should start running in and be prepared for some slight changes. One thing is certain, with no backswing, even if they decide to try and hit it harder - the ball will not be able to do very much damage with you already moving forward.

I hope this helps you beat the evil drop shot.
