The reaction of Jesus’ disciples to His death had a profound impact on how they reacted to meeting the risen Christ. The disciples had experienced the harrowing experience of Jesus’ crucifixion. Their deep grief prevented them from embracing the truth of Jesus’ real presence among them. Even the absence of Jesus’ body in the tomb did not register the truth to them, all they could think of was, where have they removed His body. Their troubled and confused state of mind and heart reaches us from this troubled time when they huddled together for fear of the authorities.
