Two New School Resource Officers Join the District

Grain Valley schools have three school resource officers that help provide safety, crime prevention and education throughout the district. The district has two new SROs this year.

Officer Steven Thompson joined the district this year and serves as the school resource officer for Sni-A-Bar Elementary, Sni Valley Academy, and Grain Valley High School. Officer Shawnda Hayes- Dunnell has also joined the district this year and serves as the SRO for South Middle School and Stony Point Elementary.

Returning SRO Officer Daniel Iiams has served as a Grain Valley Schools Resource Officer for six years. Officer Iiams leads the D.A.R.E. program for the school district. He serves as the School Resource Officer for Prairie Branch Elementary, Matthews Elementary, North Middle School, and Early Childhood Center.

The SRO program is a nationally accepted program that places law enforcement officers in schools. Since the officers are in the schools each day, they are able to connect with students and be an approachable resource for students during school as well as at after-school activities. •
