An Establishment for Research and Higher Education, Specialised in Global Affairs The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies’ mission is to analyse the stakes of globalisation through teaching (master and doctorate), research, executive education and forum activities. Thanks to its professors and doctoral students, to the centres created with the University of Geneva and to the array of knowledge present in the Maison de la paix and International Geneva, the Graduate Institute offers a unique density of expertise. It achieves this by focusing on priority thematic areas, two of which are transversal approaches: gender and governance.

Forum Activities Every year, the Institute organises around 250 lectures, panel debates, conferences and film screenings at the Maison de la paix, which allow for a better understanding of the contemporary world’s major challenges. A Campus at the Heart of International Geneva The Campus de la paix is a network of buildings extending from the Place des Nations (the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva) to the shores of Lake Geneva. It is made up of the Maison de la paix (the Institute’s headquarters), the Edgar and Danièle de Picciotto Student House, the Rothschild building and two historic villas situated by the lake (Villa Barton and Villa Moynier).

A new student residence, designed by architect Kengo Kuma, is currently underway. This residence will house 650 people, in addition to the 250 already residing in the Edgar and Danièle de Picciotto Student House.

Alumni The Institute’s alumni community is made up of over 19,000 members, who work in numerous sectors of activity in over 100 countries. Through events organised by its 29 chapters and informal contact, the alumni compose a network of professional, dynamic contacts, one of the lasting advantages of an education at the Graduate Institute.
