Our mission at Grace is to teach the inspired and inerrant Word of God, to proclaim that Jesus Christ is the crucified and risen Savior of the world, and to nurture believers for lives of Christian service.

We are very pleased that you have joined us for worship today! We pray that this time will be a blessing for you as God comes to you with his Word and promises and as you offer him your thanks and praise.
The order of worship we will follow is printed in this worship folder for you to follow along and participate. You’ll notice that the service is a dialogue between God and us, his people. The pastor speaks to God along with the congregation and also speaks the Word of God to the people. LARGE PRINT worship folders are available at the entrances for those who desire them.
Today we are using elements from the Christian Worship (2021) hymnal. You will find these blue worship books in the hymnal racks in each pew. You will be asked to open the hymnal to participate in parts of the service today. A vocalist will aid in our singing and will be recorded for our audio disks and video live-streaming.
There is no cost to park in our parking lot during Sunday morning worship services. If you receive a citation by mistake, please let our office staff know so it can be cleared.
We live in a world where a thousand things are competing for our attention. There is the real danger that we focus on the frivolous and ignore the indispensable. As a result, we often talk about the importance of being “free from distraction.” But the stakes are higher than that. We need to be freed from distraction. We need the spiritual power to give our undivided attention to that which truly makes a difference, not only here and now, but also in eternity. A life focused on all the right things is only possible because of a Savior who is always focuses on us. On the Day of Pentecost, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to give his followers power and focus. Still today, through his Word, Jesus grants those gifts to his disciples.
We have come to the second half of the Church Year. In the first half, we focused on the life of Christ. In this second half, we turn our attention to all the teachings of Christ. May we give them our undivided attention.
Our worship will follow this path:
First Sunday after Pentecost (Holy Trinity) On the Majesty and Mystery of Our God
*Third Sunday after Pentecost
On Christ’s Call for Commitment
(This Sunday is being taken out of order because Vicar Nordlie will be coming to this site to preach).
Second Sunday after Pentecost
Fourth Sunday after Pentecost
Fifth Sunday after Pentecost
Sixth Sunday after Pentecost
Seventh Sunday after Pentecost
Eighth Sunday after Pentecost
Ninth Sunday after Pentecost
On the Mission Right Before Us
On the Want for Workers
On a Neighbor in Need
On the One Thing Needed
On the Privilege and Purpose of Prayer
On Useful Resources
On Heavenly Treasure

Numbers 6:22-27
22The L told Moses 23to speak to Aaron and to his sons and to tell them to bless the Israelites with these words:
24 The L bless you and keep you.
25 The L make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
26 The L look on you with favor and give you peace.
27In this way they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
HYMN We All Believe in One True God
Worship 940
The Lord charges his priests to speak a threefold blessing upon the people. We close our services confident that our Triune God gives us the majestic things these words pronounce.
Romans 5:1–5
1Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2Through him we also have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand. And we rejoice confidently on the basis of our hope for the glory of God.
3Not only this, but we also rejoice confidently in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces patient endurance, 4and patient endurance produces tested character, and tested character produces hope. 5And hope will not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who was given to us.
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

We have peace because the love of the Father has been demonstrated in his Son and poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.
We stand out of respect for the words of Christ, our King.
The Gospel Acclamation points toward the words of the Gospel.
Refrain (ALL):
Vocalist: Holy, holy, holy is the L Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.
The Son receives what he has from the Father. The Spirit receives what he has from the Son. We receive what we have from the Spirit.
GOSPEL
John 16:12–15
12“I still have many things to tell you, but you cannot bear them now.
13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own, but whatever he hears he will speak. He will also declare to you what is to come. 14He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. 15Everything the Father has is mine. This is why I said that he takes from what is mine and will declare it to you.”

This hymn is one of the oldest known Christian hymns. It has often served as a bridge between the Day of Pentecost and Holy Trinity. For in this hymn, one of the blessings we ask of the Holy Spirit is that he would enable us to believe in and praise the Trinity.

Whoever wishes to be saved must, above all else, hold to the true Christian faith. Now this is the true Christian faith:
We worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, without mixing the persons or dividing the divine being.
For each person the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit is distinct, but the deity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is one, equal in glory and coeternal in majesty.
What the Father is, so is the Son, and so is the Holy Spirit.
The Father is uncreated, the Son uncreated, the Holy Spirit uncreated; the Father is infinite, the Son infinite, the Holy Spirit infinite; the Father is eternal, the Son eternal, the Holy Spirit eternal;
yet they are not three who are eternal, but there is one who is eternal,
just as they are not three who are uncreated, nor three who are infinite, but there is one who is uncreated and one who is infinite.
In the same way the Father is almighty, the Son is almighty, the Holy Spirit is almighty;
yet they are not three who are almighty, but there is one who is almighty.
So the Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God; yet they are not three Gods, but one God.
So the Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, the Holy Spirit is Lord; yet they are not three Lords, but one Lord.
For just as Christian truth compels us to confess each person individually to be God and Lord,
so the true Christian faith forbids us to speak of three Gods or three Lords.
This creed is named for St. Athanasius, a staunch defender of the Christian faith in the fourth century. It was written over a century after the death of Athanasius to combat two errors that undermined key scriptural teachings. One error denied that God’s Son and the Holy Spirit are of one being or Godhead with the Father. The other error denied that Jesus Christ is true God and true man in one person. This morning we are speaking a portion of this lengthy creed.
Brief intercessory prayers may be added in a fitting place.
The Father is neither made nor created nor begotten of anyone. The Son is neither made nor created, but is begotten of the Father alone. The Holy Spirit is neither made nor created nor begotten, but proceeds from the Father and the Son.
So there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits.
And within this Trinity none comes before or after; none is greater or inferior; but all three persons are coequal and coeternal,
so that in every way, as stated before, the Trinity in Unity and Unity in Trinity is to be worshiped.
Whoever wishes to be saved must have this conviction of the Trinity.

Triune God, you are the one eternal God, whose name we praise forever. We would not have known you if you had not revealed yourself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three persons, yet one God. Remove from us all doubt and grant us humble faith as we contemplate this high and holy mystery. Enlighten and empower us to worship you as the triune God, the holy Trinity.
God our Father, whatever good is in us, whatever good things we have, and whatever good we do comes from you alone. In you we live and move and have our being.
Open our eyes to see the gifts you provide every day purely out of your own love and care.
Lord Jesus our Savior, you came into our world to make the Father known to us. You joined yourself to us by taking on our humanity and brought us back to God by shedding your blood. In love you walked the way of suffering and carried the wrath of God that we deserved because of our sins. Help us believe that all you did and all you endured you did to rescue us and set us free.
In the bright new hope of your resurrection teach us to offer our lives in praise to God and love to our neighbor.
Creator Spirit, you breathed into us new life by the power of the gospel, opened our eyes to see the light of your grace, and filled our minds with the clear sound of your voice. Through Word and sacrament lead us to understand more completely how broad and deep and high is the love of God in Christ Jesus. Firm up our resolve to do battle with Satan and sin.
In every weakness be our strength, that we may show ourselves to be God’s children: faithful in prayer, constant in hope, and fervent in love.
Hear us, Lord, as we pray in silence.
Silent prayer
Holy Trinity, you are the God of glory, the God of grace, and the God of all comfort. We rejoice to call you Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and praise your holy name forever. Amen.
Members of Grace respond to their Savior’s love with offerings that are given joyfully, generously, regularly, and in a way that is proportionate to how the Lord has blessed them. Their cheerful gifts support the mission and ministry of our congregation. If you are a guest today, please know that we do not expect you to contribute to our congregation’s work. However, if you would like to give an offering to the Lord in response to his love to you, we are happy to receive it and put it to work in God’s kingdom. If you prefer, use your smart phone to give online by scanning this QR code:

OFFERTORY:
Holy God, We Praise Thy Name Sandra Eithun
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise.
The Preface to the Sacrament is one of the oldest parts of the Christian liturgy, dating back to the first century. As we prepare to receive Holy Communion, we are united with the Body of Christ, in an unbroken bond with Christians through the millennia.
The Prophet Isaiah was given a vision of heaven, where seraphim praised God. In the Sanctus we welcome Jesus with our hosannas and praise.
It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns forever in perfect unity with you and the Holy Spirit as one God and one Lord. Therefore, with all the saints on earth and hosts of heaven, we praise your holy name and join their glorious song:
We give thanks to you, O God, through your dear Son, Jesus Christ, whom you sent to be our Savior, our Redeemer, and the messenger of your grace. Through him you made all things; in him you are well pleased. He is the incarnate Word, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. To fulfill your promises, he stretched out his hands on the cross and released from eternal death all who believe in you.
As we remember Jesus’ death and resurrection, we thank you that you have gathered us together to receive your Son’s body and blood. Send us your Spirit, unite us as one, and strengthen our faith so that we may praise you in your Son, Jesus Christ. Through him, we glorify and honor you, O God our Father, with the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my (+) body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my (+) blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
The peace of the Lord be with you always. Amen.
Matthew 6 and Luke 11 record how Jesus taught his disciples to pray. We use his example prayer as part of our public worship, trusting that he will hear and answer our prayers. As he speaks the Words of Institution, the minister both proclaims the words of Jesus to the congregation and sets apart the bread and wine for this special use. The sign of the cross reminds us of Christ’s death.
John the Baptist pointed to Jesus and said, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” We sing the Agnus Dei confident that Jesus has borne our sins and freely gives us forgiveness and peace in the Sacrament.
Gluten-free communion wafers and grape juice are available for those who for health or medical reason require it. Please see page 15 for more information.
The Bible teaches that the Lord’s Supper is a unique communion of Christ and the individual believer as well as a coming together of people who hold to the same beliefs. Because of these Scriptural truths, we practice Member Communion at Grace. Those who are confirmed members of Wisconsin Synod congregations (WELS) are invited to receive the Lord’s Supper with us.
If you are not a WELS member but have an interest in receiving Holy Communion, please speak with the pastor after church today or at another time. We are aware that there are a number of other teachings about Holy Communion, and we want it to be a blessing for you, so we would look forward to sharing with you what God says about this Sacrament.

Lord Jesus, you have invited me to come and receive your holy Sacrament. I believe that in the bread and wine you give me your true body and blood to eat and drink. Forgive my sins and nourish my faith through this precious meal. I long for the comfort that comes with your promises; I yearn for the assurance of your faithful love. Bless me now as I receive you by faith. Amen.
Thank you, dear Savior, for nourishing my faith with the Sacrament of your body and blood. Lift my heart with your forgiveness, renew my confidence in your grace, empower my love for others, and lead me to long for the eternal banquet of heaven. Amen.

1 Corinthians 11:26
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his mercy endures forever.
Whenever we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
We give you thanks, O Lord, for the foretaste of the heavenly banquet you have given us in this Sacrament. Through this gift you have fed our faith, nourished our hope, and strengthened our love. By your Spirit, help us to live as your holy people until that day when you will receive us as your guests at the wedding supper of the Lamb, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and (+) give you peace.

We provide gluten-free communion wafers for those with wheat allergy, gluten-sensitivity, or celiac disease. These wafers are stored and handled separately to avoid cross-contamination. They are “bread” as Scripture requires and are consecrated along with the rest of the bread. For those requiring gluten-free wafers, please take one from the stand located at the front rail as you approach for communion. Simply hold it so that the pastor can see it at the time of distribution. Grape juice is available for those who for health or medical reason require it instead of wine. Please speak with a pastor about providing grape juice for you on future Sundays.
Today we are distributing Holy Communion in “tables.” The ushers will direct members forward by the side aisles. Groups of about ten will be guided toward the center aisle and will line up to receive the elements together. After each table communes, the pastor will offer a blessing and dismiss the group to return by the center aisle.
To aid in your personal preparation for Holy Communion, a list of Christian Questions can be found on pages 295-296 in the hymnal. These were prepared by Martin Luther for those intending to receive the Sacrament.
The flowers beautifying our altar this morning were given in loving memory of Ron and Helen Kwart. If you would like to provide flowers for the altar, please call (520-623-6633) or email (office@gracelutheransaz.org) the Grace Central Office to reserve a Sunday. The next available dates include most of the Sundays in August. The cost for the 2 bouquets is $32.50. After the 10:00 AM service you may take the flowers home or leave them to be dropped off to one of our homebound members if a visit is being made.
Following the 10:00 AM service this morning, you are invited to join us in the courtyard and Fellowship Hall for drinks and snacks. If you would like to host, upcoming available dates are August 10 and 31. Please sign up on the sheet in the Fellowship Hall.
Calling all kids! Have you ever wondered what the grossest, messiest Bible stories are? Join us this summer as we take a look at some yucky Bible accounts and learn that God can use even the messiest moments of life to teach us some important things. Each week we will have crafts, games, an interesting lesson, snacks and a whole lot of fun in a full-group setting. Sunday School meets from 8:45 to 9:45 in the Education Building every Sunday morning. You hope you can join us! Friends are welcome too!
Last week we learned that God’s way is better than our way by looking at how Lot’s wife became too salty (Genesis 19:1-26). This week we are learning that we can always trust God by taking a look at what happened to Job in Job chapter 2.
We are currently studying the first half of the book of Romans. The Apostle Paul wrote to Christians in that important city to reassure them and us that God triumphs over sin and sadness by his grace. Please join us for “The Triumph of Grace: The Book of Romans.” If you have not made Sunday morning Bible study a part of your routine, we invite you to join us! We meet at 9:00 AM in the Grace -Tucson Fellowship Hall.
The fathers and kids of Grace Lutheran Church and the Child Learning Center are invited to a Father’s Day celebration following worship today! A BBQ at our GraceSahuarita location will begin at 11:30 AM. We will be honoring dads with a variety of smoked, grilled, and bbq’d meats as well as sides, paired with flights of beer and/or bourbon. There will also be a bounce house for the kids!
At our Open Gym at Grace-Sahuarita this Tuesday, June 17, we will play basketball. Come for some friendly competition and bring a friend!
Our study of Church History is on a break this Wednesday, June 18. We will resume looking at the history of the Wisconsin Synod during the Great Depression and the World War II years on June 25. Even if you haven’t attended this class before, you are always welcome! We study together in the Grace-Tucson Fellowship Hall at 10:00 AM and repeat the same material at 7:00 PM. Join us for whichever time fits your schedule best!
All ladies are invited to join Pastor Koehler for study and discussion of the book More Prepared to Answer (yours to keep at no cost) by Pastor Mark Paustian on Thursdays from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall. Each week is an individual topic so you are able to jump in and out week-toweek as your schedule allows. Our current topic, Why should I believe the Bible? will continue for a couple more weeks. Future topics include Isn’t religion discredited by science? I can’t handle your outdated view of sex. I have a mind, and this doesn’t make sense. Don’t you condemn homosexuals?” This will help us understand things better and be prepared to help others understand God’s answers.
Ladies from all sites are invited to join the Ladies’ Fellowship Group for a “Birthday Party” this Thursday, June 19, beginning at 10:15 AM in the Grace-Tucson Fellowship Hall. Ladies, please bring a nice, wrapped gift ($10-$15) for our gift exchange and your choice of a fruit or vegetable. Birthday cake will be provided. Please contact Lois Thornton at (520)449-7552 if you have any questions.
Married couples! On Friday, June 27, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM, Grace in Sahuarita will be hosting a marriage enhancement seminar. The goal of this event is to provide a fun environment for married couples to discuss some Biblical principles about marriage, build relationships with other couples, and compete against other couples in trivia! Dinner will be provided as well as childcare. If you are interested, reach out to Vicar Noah Nordlie at 248-693-0374 or vicnpn@gracelutheransaz.org.
Through June, we are holding our 3rd annual food drive for the Vail Resources Food Bank. In the past, summer has brought donation shortages. Our goal is to provide some relief from these shortages and to help those families in need. Last year we collected over 475 lbs of food. Some specific items needed include: peanut butter, cereal, rice & pasta, and canned items - meats (tuna, salmon, chicken etc.), beans, soup, fruit, and vegetables. A box is available in the west end of the Fellowship Hall to collect our donations.
Our Child Learning Center was assigned a teacher at the Call Service at Martin Luther College on May 17. Miss Caitlin Broehm is from Appleton, WI, and will arrive in Arizona soon! Miss Broehm will be the Lead Teacher in the Toddler room. She will also be in the Director Training Program while she teaches. We would like to welcome Caitlin to Grace with an abundance of gift cards! Please drop them off at the reception desk at the CLC, in the Grace Central Office, or give them to any of the pastors. Caitlin’s installation will take place on Sunday, June 29, at Grace-Sahuarita during the 10:00 AM service. Lunch will follow in the gymnasium. We are so thankful God has blessed us with a new teacher!
