MOTHER’S DAY IS A FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR AT GRACEL ACED. Why? It’s an opportunity to celebrate the impact sisters, mothers, daughters, grandmothers, and women of all ages and in all seasons make in everyday life. Some of the most beautiful investments a mother makes are never applauded or seen publicly, but they matter.

In motherhood, sometimes the fragrance of faithful loving gently wafts before buds form and our garden bursts into bloom.

This year at GraceLaced Shoppe, in addition to our perennial Mother’s Day collection, we’ve added offerings that remind us that strength in motherhood comes by way of joy in the Lord. We hope these products help you sow truth in your own heart day by day as you sow in the lives of those you love.

As you honor moms, grandmas, daughters, sisters, and sweet friends this year, my prayer is that you’ll see and celebrate the faithfulness of God in the sanctifying work of motherhood. May these art pieces and gifts, and the truths they point to, serve to encourage and bless you in this season.

AT THE TABLE Gathering around a table is always more than place settings, flower arrangements, or colorful salads. The table is where life happens!

Our hope with these new home items is that they’ll be used as intentional reminders of truth that release you from the pressure of picture-perfect dinner parties. God calls the imperfect, the broken, and the weary to use them for His glory! May imperfect moments remind you to be still and know that He is God, to be renewed by His mercy and grace, to be loved by Him, and to be glad in rejoicing at His work on the cross.

DISCOVERING THE HEART OF TRUE HOSPITALIT Y

By Ruth Chou Simons I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but even though we live in a culture that loves to entertain, we rarely show true hospitality.

We pin endless links to great party ideas and photos of elegantly set tables and thematic dinners… or is that just me? Unfortunately, that often means that when we think about biblical hospitality those are the images that pop into our heads. Do those images reflect true biblical hospitality?

Maybe… but the heart of true hospitality doesn’t require pretty tables or extravagant dinners. And it doesn’t always involve pressed linens, homecooked four-course meals, a spotless home, fresh flowers and matching dishes.

True hospitality is sharing what you have and who you are. It’s recognizing that because every provision we lay claim to was given to us by God, who owns everything, we can give generously of our time, home, and ourselves. The very best thing we can share isn’t food or our home, but Christ Himself!

Hospitality isn’t about impressing or entertaining. In order to be truly hospitable, we have to get over our pride and realize that our sense of perfection is a lie. We have to learn to serve other people as unto the Lord instead of for reciprocation or accolades.

So, with this view of hospitality, where do you start? Here are a few simple suggestions: Get Creative with Timing. Hospitality isn’t limited to just dinnertime! It can also happen over a simple breakfast or lunch.

Mid-mornings and mid-afternoons might be the best time for get-togethers with other moms.

Involve Your Kids. Serving other people should be a family affair—involve your kids in the planning and implementation of a dinner for guests. Let them help cook or serve the meal!

Think Simple. If you’re practicing hospitality at some time other than a meal, raid your pantry! Grab some dried fruit, Continued on page 8

nuts and cheese to make a simple snack platter to share.

a single friend with a last-minute invite to join your family for dinner.

Plan Ahead. Do you go to a Bible Study? Consider making an easy snack, and quickly picking up around the house before you leave, so that you can invite a new friend or two over after the study to get to know one another better.

Be a Blessing. Once a week, make an extra big batch of something super simple for dinner and offer to bring a meal to another family who may be having a difficult week.

Be Spontaneous. Sometimes the best gatherings happen spur of the moment. Think about surprising

BAKED FRENC H TOAST 1 loaf French bread, cut in 1 inch slices

• Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish.

8 eggs

• Arrange the sliced bread in the bottom of the dish.

2 1/4 cups milk

• In a large bowl, beat together eggs, milk, cream, and vanilla. Pour the mixture over the bread slices.

1 cup half-and-half cream 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 3/4 cup butter 1 1/3 cups brown sugar 3 tablespoons light corn syrup

• Sprinkle with cinnamon, cover, and refrigerate overnight.

• The next morning, preheat oven to 350F. • In a small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar and corn syrup; heat until bubbling.

• Pour the mixture over bread and egg mixture already in the baking dish.

• Bake uncovered for 40 minutes.

Fruit of the Spirit Goodness Print (Not sold individually)

Floral Fruit of the Spirit Tea Towel & Recipe Card Set 1 tea towel & set of 15 recipe cards 16 | GRACEL ACED

FRESH STRAWBERRY PIE 1 (9 inch) graham cracker crust 3/4 cup sugar 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1/2 cup water 1/4 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 tsp almond extract

• Puree 1.5 cups of strawberries in a blender, to make approximately 1 cup of strawberry puree.

• Whisk together the puree with sugar, cornstarch, and water.

• Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes and remove from heat.

1 (3 ounce) package strawberry gelatin (I used peach this time)

• Add in vanilla and almond extracts.

4 cups sliced fresh strawberries

• Refrigerate the mixture for 15-20 minutes until mostly cooled, but not set.

• Stir in gelatin until dissolved.

• Meanwhile, arrange sliced strawberries in the crust.
