This project was focused on revitalizing both the community of Brunnen, Switzerland as well as the particular site in the town. The site is an abandoned concrete factory that has now been left to rot and fade into nothing. A local architecture firm has taken over the left side of the site to create new construction but as a class we have been tasked with the main area. We were told to look into the history and use both the leftover ruins as well as new construction to bring life back. It has also been emphasized that the project must focus on sustainability to counteract the harm the factory had done in the past.
Masterplan
Before beginning on our focused building, a masterplan was created as a group for the larger surronding area. Currently Brunnen has a large elderly community so we decided to focus on widening the community by inviting young graduates and families with multi-purpose housing. Additionally the masterplan focuses on bringing a green area in the center for the community. The area also features a new school and warehouse to the side as well as a general community building.

CONNECTION
Ease of connection from living facility to school to train line makes an ideal situation for students.
Ground Floor Planning
To best market the building to the public, the decision was made to intigrate public features on the bottom floor. With the biking culture in Switzerland so prevelant, I chose to put a bike cafe and bike repair shop in the bottom floor.
Loft Living
Though the target group is students, I wanted to offer an enhanced way of living. This came in the form of loft apartments as this best handles the small apartment footprints, making them double th height and size. This also provides a different way of living then the usual single story apartments.

Studio Living
For students, the offer to live on their own yet affordably must still be offered in living options. Studio apartments allow students to live on their own while not having to face steep prices of living in Switzerland.

Using the Natural Land
With a natural flowing river north of our site, exterior balconies that connect the apartments allow every tennant to enjoy the view of this river and the Swiss Alps behind it, creating appeal and draw through the scenery.
Structure
As the building is loacted in Switzerland and focuses on sustainability, the choice was made to use as limited concrete as possible, focusing on areas that need reinforcment with recycled concrete. Elsewhere in the new construction, timber beams and columns were used. This decision also focused on retaining as much as possible from the original structure.

The objective of this project was to focus on creating a food hall space in Kansas City that combines innovation with creativity and functionality that is intended to last. The urban context also challenged to use prexisiting elements such as the street car and natural 8’ drop in the site to the advantage of the design. Overall, this project strived to create a new urban building that invited people from all walks of life to come together while also embracing Kansas City’s rich history and bright future.

Site Analysis
The city heavily relies on the use of the KC Street Car that runs next to the site on Main Street. Surronding our site is the development of a long park, capping Interstate 670 as well as much entertainment like the T-Mobile Center, Kaufmann Center, Power & Light District and the planned Royals Stadium, making it imperative to develop a food center for all these places and their visitors.
Spatial Layout
When planning the space layout, glass and the views it allowed played a large role in where each element was placed. On the ground floor level, with such valuable views, glass was placed around the “arm” of the building on the first floor. This glass then guided how the kitchens and seating was placed. With the glass and views at the front, that is where the majority of seating was placed so visitors could enjoy the view. The kitchens and utility

Transition of Spaces
The struture builds on itself and allows for a smooth transition from each space into the next, with each floor serving it’s own purpose. The outdoor courtyard serves as a welcoming area which easily moves into the below-grade floor that offers the most amount of kitchens. The first, grade-level floor offers interesting views and seating options. The second floor gives visitors the chance to sit outside underneath covered sitting areas and the roof offers a unique option to experience the beauty of kansas City.

Using the Natural Land
The site which the project is situated, there is a natural slope. The site experiences about a 9’ drop from top to bottom. Instead of choosing to level the site, embracing its natural height change creates the chance for another level. By embracing this slope, which could’ve been a challenge, instead it is used as a feature.
Interior Views and Uses
When designing a space in such a central part of Kansas City and taking up such an important footprint, it is critical that the Food Hall can serve more than one purpose. The interior space showcase food ordering stations and seating options that directly tie into the Food Hall’s main purpose. But the top picture also shows how after hours, the space can be used to host gatherings of important people and events. Grade-Level

Manual Construction
Parking Day is described as a temporary exhibit where people reuse the size of a parking space to bring attention to safer, greener, and more equitable spaces.Sustainability was at the forefront our project, in which it used recycled materials in our community. We decided to base our design off of a greenhouse and we used the light covers to filter the natural sunshine instead of the artificial lighting. We combined the urban atmosphere ofDowntown Lawrence with nature to show the importance of recycling and sustainability. After we are done with this project, the container will continue to be a dumpster, the wood, PVC, and old light panels will be used in our next project or recycled, and our plants will be planted
Concept
As a group, we wanted to create a parallel to the idea of a dumpster and instead create a “greenhouse” that brings life and air into a community. By creating this semi-enclosed space, we invite people into a physical space to explore the depths of recycled materials and what an area the size of a parking space could bring to a community and enhance it.

Construction
The base of theis project was a dumpster but also materials that have been recycled or can be. We used recycled light covers from Marvin Hall to create our “glass” and held it up with wood that can easily be reused. To hold this all together we made homemade clamps using the same wood that again can be recycled.

**In Progress
This project is based in Bentonville and focuses on introducing multi-purpose living with an emphasis in missing-middle housing. As many people currently come into Bentonville for work, we were tasked to create a space that addresses not only the crisis of out-pricing potential citizens but also fill a void that Bentonville has been missing. My approach was for a Wellness Center and young family living. The Wellness Center is inspired by the Bentonville landscpae and the nearby Hot Springs of Arkansas.
Masterplan
To begin we first looked at the site as a whole in a group of 5. We planned an entire site that offered a variety of housing options for a variety of people but also a variety of businesses. Alongside group members Meredith Horst, Grace Kelly, Sophia Beckmann and Betsy Spell, we create a masterplan that forms districts based on need and energy levels.

Intial Floorplans
Currently, I am in the process of developing floorplans for my residental units as well as my wellness floor. First, I had to alter the parking to fit my individual plan. Now, I’ve been working to create units of 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms as well as “arms” of the building that feature a fitness wellness side and a spa wellness side.
Section
While still working, I’ve began developing a section for myself and others to best understand how the residental plans grow a top the wellness base. Additionally how the rocky-inspired roof texture and inner void reflect the Bentonville landscape.

I was brought onto the team to help develop masterplans for NCAA Division III schools and learn from those around me. For these masterplans, I helped develop design plan layouts, sometimes multiple iterations for spaces, as well as create renders of these new design options. I also worked to create spreadsheets that gave recommended updates to the facilities based on team and school growth.

Personal Work
My love for architecture began through my love of art. While my career may be focused in architecture, I still often use art use art as a form of expression and have featured some works here in my portfolio that have brought me particular joy and connect back to my personal life, family and schooling.
