The Agriculture Operations diploma program is a comprehensive training opportunity designed for individuals aspiring to pursue a fulfilling career in modern agriculture and farm operations. Northwestern Polytechnic’s (NWP) Agriculture Operations diploma program prepares graduates for employment as a grain farm worker or a livestock farm worker. Graduates gain the skills, knowledge, and attitude to operate equipment, perform maintenance on equipment, lead a team, haul or transport grains/livestock, incorporate technology and industry trends, promote farm safety, and to focus on productivity and ethical land/animal practices. This program equips students with a comprehensive skill set and knowledge base that will enable them to thrive as competent and responsible farm workers in today’s dynamic agricultural landscape. From cultivating crops to managing livestock, students gain hands-on experience and theoretical insights that make them valuable assets to farming operations.
This program includes two extensive work terms where students will be working in the industry, a real-world environment to advance their learning and put their skills into practice. Students will be responsible for ensuring they are meeting the requirements of the work term as identified by the employer. The work terms may be paid terms.

Through theoretical and practical training, this program prepares students to enter the Power Engineering field at the Fourth-Class and Third-Class levels. Industrial development continues to expand the responsibilities of Power Engineers.
Possible Careers: Work in the oil and gas industry, pulp and paper facilities, large medical facilities, hotel or residential complexes.
VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY DIPLOMA
NWP’s Veterinary Technology program produces highly skilled and capable graduates. The program features a working on-site farm with a variety of both large and companion animals, providing students with hands-on experience treating and caring for live patients of all sizes. Students also have the opportunity to spend time in veterinary clinics and related veterinary facilities, in addition to completing rotations in the NWP on-site clinic and a six-week practicum at a facility within Canada. Graduates are eligible to write the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) which is required to become registered as Veterinary Technologists in the province of Alberta.
Possible Careers: Animal health technologist/technician, registered veterinary technologist.
WATER AND WASTEWATER TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE
The Water and Wastewater Technician program provides in-depth knowledge of water distribution systems, water treatment, wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment. Caleigh Gillis ENGINEERING
After spending a year studying mathematics at a large university, Caleigh Gillis ended up finding her academic solution at Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP). A timely switch to NWP’s Engineering University Transfer program delivered the familiarity she was seeking, as well as the support needed to bring her Mechanical Engineer career goals within reach.
“In a larger school, you’re often thrown into the deep end and it’s a little intimidating. Here you get a handle on how post-secondary works, how it’s different from high school. I truly think it has set me up to succeed in the rest of my education and getting my degree.”
During her time at NWP’s Grande Prairie campus, Caleigh established a solid foundation for learning. She was able to make the most of her local network, while forming new connections with instructors who were accessible and invested in the success of their students. She even scored a great summer job working with engineering industry leaders - ARC Resources.
In addition to Engineering, NWP currently offers over 60 distinctive University Transfer programs. This versatile pathway gives students like Caleigh the opportunity to ease into a productive post-secondary rhythm before heading out to complete their degree at a partner university.
Caleigh’s next move is to the University of Alberta in Edmonton where she will continue her studies with new skills and exponential confidence thanks to her time at NWP.

Colton has thoroughly enjoyed earning his Kinesiology diploma and being an active member of the NWP Wolfpack, participating in the Circle of Indigenous Students and Students’ Association, and leaving his mark with Wolves Athletics.
“I have made life-long friends and attribute my academic success to the support of both instructors and fellow students. Attending NWP has provided clear direction for my future career and has been instrumental in my personal growth.”
