Area Judging Teams Do Well At State Area FFA chapters came home with several honors earned during the Missouri State FFA Convention in Columbia, which concluded on Friday. The Trenton FFA placed fourth out of 347 chapters in the state to earn a Top Chapter Award, which is earned by only 10 percent of chapters and recognizes those that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization. Brook Kreatz and Kabel Oaks are the Trenton FFA advisors. Trenton was recognized for its participation with the Trenton RepublicanTimes in the Thank-a-Farmer program, writing articles for an eight-part series that educates the public on facts and statistics about Missouri and American agriculture. Other activities included participation in the College Bound program, which provides members the opportunity to visit and tour post-secondary institutions that offer agricultural programs; volunteering at the Missouri Day Festival by preparing facilities, entering a float in the parade, organizing a petting zoo and providing a concession stand; and participation in the Operation Clean Streets, an annual spring activity in which FFA members help clean up trash and improve overall aesthetic value of the community. Teresa Yoder of the Trenton FFA was named winner of the 2019 Proficiency Award for Agricultural Processing. A senior at THS, Miss Yoder’s supervised agricultural experience program includes employment and part ownership of TK’s Processing. Her responsiblities include butchering deer and chicken to specific cuts and products. She performs these tasks after school and over the weekend. According to City Administrator/TMU Director Ron Urton, the results showed a reduction in lead levels, with the system meeting the Environmental Protection Agency’s 90th percentile action level of 15 parts per billion. Three of the 40 test locations registered above the action level, while the remaining 37 locations were below the action level. “We are pleased to see improvements, with more locations below the action level compared to the last testing period,” Urton said. “Reduction of lead levels is the goal of the additional treatment process that was approved by DNR and installed in November. We will continue to utilize this process and hope to see further improvements during the next testing period.” TMU, in accordance with DNR regulations, will continue to monitor and test the system’s water quality. All Tier One locations have been notified of the test results. TMU encourages its customers to review these simple tips, that can reduce their risk of exposure to lead. Those tips include flushing water taps for one to two minutes until feeling a significant
