The FREE Annual Wellness Visit

Georgians over 65 are eligible

The Annual Wellness Visit, or AWV, is a non-invasive visit with your Primary Care Provider’s practice that’s free to most Medicare-eligible Georgians over 65. The appointment is designed to assess future health risks and create a personal prevention plan.

Georgia Memory Net recommends that every eligible Georgian over the age of 65 takes advantage of their free Annual Wellness Visit. We especially recommend the AWV for those who may be experiencing memory challenges. Part of the AWV looks at memory and cognition, and can reveal symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.

If signs of Alzheimer’s are found, your healthcare professional may recommend an appointment with Georgia Memory Net for an accelerated diagnosis and treatment plan, as well as connection to support organizations in your area. Visit GaMemoryNet.org/referrals to learn more about getting a referral to a GMN Memory Assessment Clinic.

Dear Friends,

Happy July! For many of us, summertime is about slowing down just a bit. Hot summer days and evenings recall memories of outdoor barbecues, hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill, fireworks and all the Americana that comes along with it. But July means something else in the nonprofit world. It’s when the fiscal year begins, and budgets change over, issuing a whole new challenge for the year ahead. And the next year is certainly a challenge for us. The rising dues to PBS and NPR paired with a smaller state appropriation this year means that individual giving and YOUR support of GPB are the catalysts to our success.

We are so fortunate to have the support of the state of Georgia to provide muchneeded funding for our facilities - including the many towers and buildings across the state, as well as the equipment needed to ensure that GPB remains on air 24 hours a day to serve the people who depend on us. Additionally, state funding helps us retain a smart and capable engineering team, the infrastructure needed to run our business and our all-important education initiatives that influence the lives of students and teachers every day.

Where do you come in? Well, when I am asked that question, I generally answer with another question – What do you love about GPB? For most of you, the answers would range from MASTERPIECE to PBS Newshour, NOVA and NATURE to NPR’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered to GPB’s own original productions such as Georgia Outdoors or our local news content. If you answered similarly, guess what? It’s all funded by YOU! Your dollars of support help keep everything you love and enjoy on GPB TV and Radio. So, in a year that is sure to be a challenge, I hope you’ll consider a little something extra for GPB. Even five dollars a month makes an enormous difference. Importantly, I know that together we can rise to the challenge in the year ahead and keep GPB strong for the many varied communities we serve across the state and beyond. Why? Because we must!

Warmest regards,

Bert Wesley Huffman GPB President and Interim CEO
