Thesis | 2021
Changing demographics of urban cities require new strategies for regeneration and densification of young - working population. This demographic has a niche requirement of formal rental accommodation and working amenities which can be shared by a group of people. This thesis project works upon encouraging the idea of shared economy and resources around a tightly knitted community living while focusing on access over ownership.
CO - WORKING
The new age of workforce consists of more freelancers, start ups and solo- entrepreneurs and will constitute a large amount of the total workforce in the future. Nowdays, younger generations prefer to work in places where they can form a network with inter disciplinary proffessionals.
Co working is a facility that turns the office into a collective brainstorming session helping to create more efficient solutions by sharing knowledge. It creates a work culture of flexible working hours and boosts shared economy.
The aim is to provide the users with an environment of shared facilities and enhance collaboration opportunities for businesses by working in close proximity to people in other fields that share similiar values.

CO - HOUSING
Co-Housing is the modern conceptualizing of the old neighbourhood living and has emerged from the need and desire to live affordable but also to share and interact with other fellow beings at the same time.
It is a cohabitation of individuals who have acces to common facilities or shared living spaces such as kitchen, dining, laundary, etc. contributing to living in a community.
Until 2015, most of these demands were being met by the informal sector, for example PGs and hostels with ill-designed accomodation and access to limited facilities. Hence it became important to meet these significant unmet demands of this mobile population-mellennials with cost-effective, flexible and asset light lifestyle solutions

HYPOTHESIS: Gated settlements threaten community sustainability by forming exclusive islands.
Gated communities form exclusive spaces which result in stratification within the social ecology that is established into the fabric of its surroundings. Where the tangible boundary starts a new intangible social psychology also begins despite being inside or outside.
The fabric of the city ( case study: Gurugram, Delhi NCR) consist of pockets of settlement belonging to different economic groups developed due to the formation of boundary wall. There is a certain dynamism between the ones who are inside and who are left outside. This research is to explore this relation in terms of safety on the grounds of spatial and social changes due to gated enclaves.
All gated communities are planned inwards with a large buffer space around the actual living area, which disconnects the inside with the outside. This establishes an interdependent ecosystem, where surveillance is increased to create safety inside but at the same time crime is also increased due to barriers outside. Different spatial experiences, through tangible or intangible environment, guide our psych in the end.
