GosforthCivicTheatreisasocial enterprise;whenyoubuyticketstoa performance,hireustohostyourbeautiful events,orvisitustoenjoyourhospitality, weusethemoneyyouspendtoprovide opportunitiesforyoungpeoplewithand withoutlearningdisabilitiesandautism.

ThestoryofGosforthCivicTheatrestarted withagroupofpeoplewithlearning disabilitieswhosetupandranatheatre companycalledLiberdade(Lib-er-dar-jie). In2012theydecidedtheywantedtoopen atheatrewhereeveryonewaswelcome. Theywantedtohavejobsintheirtheatre andtoprovidetheopportunitiesthey’d hadforotheryoungpeople,andsothatis

whatwedid,andthat’showGosforthCivic Theatrecametobe.

Thejourneytogettowherewearemakes GCTunique.Addtothatagovernance structurethatempowersandgivesavoice tobothpeoplewithlearningdisabilities andyoungpeople,andyouhaveacultural buildingthatcancreaterealsocialchange inacommunity.Wethinkpeoplecansense thatwhentheycomeandvisitus.

Wearenotjustatheatreandacafé,wearealsoa socialcareproviderandahospitalityvenue.Asyou knowthesesectorshavebeensignificantlyeffectedby recentincreasestoemployercostsandpayrates.To putthisintocontextin2021-2022ourwagebillwas £368k,andnextyearourwagebillwillbe £697k.

GCTstaffcostsperyear

Thishugeincreaseinwagesalongwithincreasesinexpenditureonenergyandstock meansthatweareworkinghardtofindanincomemodelthatprotectsusduringthe comingyearsandwewanttobetransparentaboutthesechangesbecauseweneed yourhelp.Weareplanningto:
