60!
That’s how many issues of Natural Awakenings Chicago we have published, including this September issue. We’re almost ready to start the next chapter, the second half of our first decade, coming next month with our October anniversary issue. Since we started on this journey, we’ve been blessed to meet so many amazing people in our community—passionate and gifted practitioners, inspiring teachers, heart-poundingly good speakers, dedicated life and health coaches, talented chefs, yoginis, sustainability gurus, dedicated local business owners and so many others. We’ve participated in a dazzling array of expos, exhibitions, shows, fundraisers and gatherings, meeting and talking with some powerful groups and likeminded folks sharing a purpose and a cause. And all along, we’ve been honored and humbled to be serving you in our Chicagoland community. So often, we rush onto the treadmill of life, meet a goal, barely glance up to check it off and carry on to the next, not stopping to celebrate or evaluate—much less bask in the glory of—reaching the milestone we had set and just met! What kind of craziness is that? Sounds like a recipe for life passing us way too quickly. I was going to say “I” am fortunate enough, but I think if you’re reading this magazine and looking to improve the quality of your life in whatever area then really, we are all fortunate enough to have ample resources and people to guide, propel and motivate us to achieve some fantastical goals. (Don’t you love that word?) And hopefully, those same people will encourage us to celebrate the milestones of our goals—setting them, acting on and achieving them and becoming the person we strive to be by living a purposeful, goal-driven life in whatever way is meaningful to us—and by stopping to enjoy the daily ride. As we explore the concept of “agelessness” in this issue, we ask you to take some time each day to define and explore some of your own fantastical goals. Whether you are just starting out, finding your voice and defining your life’s direction, or if you’ve been at this a while and are a seasoned explorer in this life, we hope you’ll take some time to think about the steps you can take to learn something new from the wonderful people that enrich your daily life. Each new person adds a little spark to our existence, just as we do to theirs, and each new interaction extends our youthful vigor and passion for living a truly ageless life. It’s been a fun summer of festivals and expos, and this month is no exception! Please come out and join us as we help celebrate two events, starting on September 12 at the TheosoFEST Mind, Body and Spirit Expo, in Wheaton. It’s our first year at this celebration, and we’re greatly looking forward to participating. Then on Sunday, September 13, we’re again joining our friends at the Evanston Green Living Festival. Get ready for fun as the annual festival teams up with Evanston Streets Alive! for a day of sustainable living and amazing food and music. Please see the news briefs, ads and calendar section for more details about these free, family events. Happy September, Happy Equinox! Savor the month!
I see you in me; we are happiness living from inner wisdom.
