PROGRAMME SKILLS RHINOCEROS, AUTOCAD, SKETCHUP, INDESIGN, PHOTOSHOP, LIGHTROOM My experience at The National University of Singapore (NUS) has taught me to value responsibility, self-discipline and hard work. Going through a total of 9 group projects as well as 5 individual projects has allowed me to grow as a person as I learnt to interact and work with my peers in a professional fashion while pushing my own personal boundaries.

Being an Architecture student has also enabled me to practice certain skills such as the manipulation of materials and other architectural elements in order to create experiences for its inhabitants. In the past couple of years, the course has also instilled in me a strong interest in various areas of Architecture such as sustainable design as well as spatial arrangements and its potential intimacy with the intended users.

SENSE OF SCALE DOCUMENTING AND REPRESENTING ARCHITECTURE AND SOUTHEAST ASIAN CITIES A sense of scale is indispensable in understanding architecture and drawing. The fine-scale measure of space and form for bodily movements for various tasks requires familiarity with the domain of study named anthropometry.

An awareness of the human body’s dimensions also serves as a measure for estimation. A sense for proportion refers to dimensions of parts in relation to the whole and is essential in visual estimation when documenting what you see.

INCORPORATING MALAY CULTURE INTO PALLADIAN ARCHITECTURE

Gedung Kuning, also known as “The Yellow Mansion”, was inspired by Palladian Architecture. In the same spirit, dramatic exterior motifs and indigenous economic materials were used to achieve internal balance and harmony.

THE ARCHITECT’S APPRENTICE UNDERSTANDING SCALE AND ORCHESTRATING SPATIAL EXPERIENCE Exploring and analysing the precedents of architectural language. This project encourages the use of thresholds, dimensions and light to satisfy the social and cultural dimensions of architecture.

A YOGA STUDIO WITH CONTINUITY

PERSPECTIVE

CLIENT PERSONA An extroverted client who wants to be able to enjoy the openness of the outdoors while being in the comfort of her home. The client is a young yoga instructor who does not like to feel enclosed by a full concrete wall and requests for a more open ambience throughout the building. The client also has an affinity for zen as it complements and enhances the yoga experience for personal and professional use. Other minute requests include having a private reading space as well as being able to watch the television while being in the bath.

Transposing the unity of yoga into architecture, the house contains elements which intends to unite the interior and exterior of the dwelling, creating a sense of openness and vastness. the honesty of the spaces is consistent throughout the building. the only wall on the second floor is in between the bedroom and the washroom. glass sliding doors on both levels facing the courtyard also gives the user an elongated view of the courtyard and the water feature.

Yuj aims to express the unity between the interior and the exterior on two scales ; between the building and the site as well as the indoor and outdoor areas within the dwelling itself. the side elevation of the building displays a staggered series of planes and columns. different from the usual singular wall, the staggered planes opens up the building while maintaining a degree of privacy. this concept is adopted by the vertical louvers on the perimeter of the dwelling as well. the vertical louvers are backed by a glass curtain wall to keep out the unwanted elements such as wind and litter. the garden beside the courtyard also helps to blur the definition between the domestic and public spaces RESPONSE TO SITE

The pitched tiled roof respects and conserve the tradition and culture of the existing typology while continuing the rhythm displayed by the rows of shophouses present in the vicinity.

ENCLAVE AN IMMERSED AMPHITHEATRE @ BUKIT BATOK TOWN PARK

Forming a path that creates and manipulates the circulation and views of the user, the project aims to encapsulate one into an uninterrupted atmosphere of nature. The undulations arranged to screen out urban distractions to allow the user a more immersive experience.

Towards the south, one would find an amphitheatre accompanied by spaces catered towards the performing arts. The roof once again aids in emphasising the waterfront view available at the site.

SITE ANALYSIS Using a basic column and roof, the structure aims to block out the urban distractions present at the site. By manipulating the angle and height of the roof while cross referencing with the view one receives on the intended paths, we can purify the experience of the water front.

MATERIALITY Using a combination of timber, steel and concrete, the amphitheatre provides an enclave that shelters the users from the elements as well as any external influences.

COALESCE A SYMBIOTIC VISITOR CENTRE @ LABRADOR PARK

The project aims to reinforce the existing environment to mitigate the adverse implications of landslides and erosion while increasing awareness on the biodiversity of the area. A place for one to fully appreciate and experience nature, the visitor centre which emphasises on biodiversity aims to create a symbiotic relationship between the people and the environment.

NARRATIVE Erosion is especially prominent in Singapore with its high level of precipitation and rainfall. This factor coupled with the slope present at the site provides a potential issue of landslide and erosion.

Over time, this will eventually take a toll on the biodiversity in the area.

TREE CABLING

TREE CABLING NETWORK

Trees play a vital role in maintaining soil stability. Acting as natural soil binders, the roots of the trees help to hold the soil in place. The canopy of the trees also provide physical protection from the rain.

By integrating tree cabling systems into the visitor centre, we can stabilise the trees and mitigate the problem of landslides and erosion.

SITE ANALYSIS The topography of the site creates a natural wind channel, allowing the Venturi effect to occur. This promotes windflow in between the two knolls.

The building massing is informed by the location of the shade created by the trees throughout the day.

ACCESSIBILITY An issue the site faces is the underutilisation of the western end as people tend to congregate towards the eastern side of the park. This could be due to the lack of a convenient and direct access to the west side of the park.

By linking the top of the hill (car park A) to the jetty, a more complete circulation is established, redistributing the visitors throughout the park.

Private spaces such as the office is enveloped by timber louvre doors in order to achieve privacy and shelter from the environment while still allowing light and ventilation through the facade. The louvres can be adjusted to suit the climatic conditions accordingly.

ACCORDION GLASS DOORS Glass doors allow for maximum natural lighting to enter even while closed. This also gives the option for artificial cooling when appropriate.

RAISED ROOF A raised roof supplemented by a glass window allows natural lighting to enter while keeping the unfavourable elements out.

This reduces the reliance on artificial lighting.
