CEO Ants Craig
Dalk and Welcome to the November edition of our Newsletter
Here we are – Christmas time! And for many of us time for a break. It has been another year of change and challenge for the Goolum community.
Congratulations to all of our students who have completed another year of education. For those who are now moving into further study or hopefully the workforce we wish you all the best and please let us know if you need any supports.
For those who are transitioning from primary school to high school – good luck!
My wish is for our community to stay strong , stay united and to be optimistic about the year ahead and a big thank you to all that have contributed – we have many unsung heroes in our community who work tirelessly and selflessly for others.
I am looking forward to the day we open the community hub and that is something for all to look forward to in the first half of 2025.
For those who are travelling over the break please stay safe.
Take care all and enjoy the break with family and friends.
Ants

The 2024 Hand Up celebration brought the community together to celebrate resilience, connection, and healing in a vibrant outdoor setting filled with energy and unity. The day featured a strong sense of solidarity, with activities that celebrated cultural pride and the strength of our mob, highlighting the shared journey of healing and the courage of all involved. Many thanks to YMCA.
The celebration exemplified what Hand Up stands for: recognising our resilience and encouraging each other to keep striving. Thank you to everyone who attended and made the day so special. Let's continue to #PutYourHandUp and support one another in this journey of healing and unity.
Students will receive a bag, drink bottle, lunch box and haircut voucher
This is also an opportunity for families to see what programs Goolum Goolum has on offer to support families for 2025
During extreme heat it is easy to become dehydrated or for your body to overheat.
Heat can cause serious and potentially fatal health problems such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke, trigger sudden events like heart attack or stroke, or worsen existing medical conditions like kidney or lung disease.

Use swimming pool fences that meet Australian standards. Keep them in good working order. Securely cover birdbaths and ponds with wire mesh, or leave them empty until children are at least 5 years old.
For safe fun with water, always watch your child and stay within arm’s reach – even if your child can swim.
Child safety around play equipment and in the garden
For safety around play equipment, always supervise your child. Or better still, play with your child!
Sun safety means sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher, broad spectrum and water resistant), a hat, sunglasses and clothing that covers your child’s skin.
Home safety around sheds, garages and tools
Lock your shed, garage and storage boxes.
When using tools, make sure your child is out of the way.
When you're not using tools, lock them away or store them out of reach. Unplug power tools.
Keep lawnmowers out of reach.
Keep household poisons out of reach, out of sight and locked away, at least 1.5 metres up.
For pedestrian safety, always supervise children. Hold hands near cars, roads and driveways. Reverse down driveways only when you know where children are.
Fence o dangerous plants, or fence them o until your child knows not to touch or eat them (usually around 3 years).
Keep emergency numbers on your fridge or in your phone.
