Welcome to the September newsletter
The season of Spring is with us which means hopefully a bit more sunshine and lots of new growth. It is also the end of another school term, and we wish all of our schoolies the best as they enter the last term of another year.
Planning is well advanced for one of our signature community events in early October – Hands up!
The theme this year is Music for Mob which should be lots of fun and a great way to recognise one of the many ways in which we can improve our mental health. I look forward to a big turn up – We have a great line up of entertainment and fun. Let’s make this one the biggest and best! Great to see new faces featured in our newsletter – a great big welcome to you all.

"Stepping
Into Early Childhood Education: Meishy’s Journey Through Her First Traineeship at Goolum Goolum"
A: Hi, my name is Meishy, I am 16 years old, and I am currently studying early childhood education at Federation University every Wednesday.
Q: Can you describe your role and responsibilities during your work experience at the playgroup?
A: I usually help with setting, packing up and cleaning the toys.
Q: What has been the most rewarding part of working here at Goolum?
A: Being able to be a part of events and to come out of my shell and do things that I usually would be scared to do. Also, all the opportunities I got to be a part of.
Q: What have you learned about early childhood development from this experience?
A: I have learned about how it all works and how people do thing within the workplace.
Q: How did you find working with the team at the playgroup? Can you give an example of a successful collaboration?
A: I find working with the team easy-going, and I think we work well together to make decisions. For example, when the team was deciding about what activities to do at playgroup, I suggested we could rock painting, and they loved that idea.
Q: Has this experience changed or confirmed your thoughts about pursuing a career in early childhood education or a related field?
A: It has changed my thought but in a good way, it has shown me that sometimes it is hard and sometimes you must deal with hard things, but you just have to keep going even if you think you can’t.
Q: What advice would you o er to someone considering a similar work experience or career path?
It has made me want to pursue a career in early childhood education more because I just love working and helping children and this work experience has made me want to do it more.

TISbane - The Koorie Way
TISbane - The Koorie Way
This month we were very fortunate to send two of our workers (Hannah Britten-Cook & Brett Harrison) to Brisbane to attend the Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Jurisdictional Workshop . This was held at the Brisbane Convention And Exhibition Centre and completed over 2 days. There were TIS teams who joined from NSW, Queensland and Tasmania. Here they learn about new tobacco and vaping laws and how to showcase this in the Wimmera, both Brett and Hannah are feeling very inspired .
Keep your eyes and ears open as The Koorie Way will be making its way into the community!!

Introducing our Mums & Bubs Group
We are excited to share some photo's from our 2024 Mums & Bubs group. We have a warm welcoming space in Aunty Irenes room, where our mothers and little ones can connect, share experiences, and build lasting friendships. Our group meet once a fortnight, and we welcome all Mums and Bubs from birth to crawlers to join us for a cuppa and a yarn. This week we were very lucky to have a Yarn with Goolum Goolum's Speech Pathologist MJ. Please contact your Maternal Child Health Nurse if you would like more information.
Youth Drop In
The event was a vibrant celebration of music, where participants embraced their creativity and showcased their talents. The night was filled with dynamic performances, catchy tunes, and plenty of laughter. It was a fantastic opportunity for the youth to express themselves and bond over their shared love for music. Don't miss the next drop in “MOVIE NIGHT” Thursday 26th September 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
Farewell & Thanks Tyson King
This same set of skills will serve him well in his new career as a KESO which he will start soon. Not lost to community just another hat!
Thanks, Tyson for your contribution, we will miss the grin and the laughter, so please don’t be a stranger – Goolum is always home to you.
