Ilove to watch things grow. Our neighbor usually plants an early garden. I am amazed as I drive by and see how it matures—the corn stalks reaching for the morning sun. The best part of a garden is getting to harvest what you have planted. Getting to eat fresh vegetables in the summer time is a real treat. I am also amazed to see the farmers plant their crops on a large scale and to see those crops as they begin to grow in those amazing straight rows in which they were planted. There is a lot of work and the hours can grow long for the farmers. The right kind of weather also helps!
I was challenged to try to transplant a small root off of a sweet shrub bush. When we first moved here, there was a well-established bush that would bloom and give off a sweet aroma. My husband thought we had skunks and that was what the smell was. We did have a family of skunks, but I think our cat encouraged them to find a new residence. It was a momma skunk and her three babies. They happened to be playing in our front yard one day. The first time I saw their momma was in our back yard and I thought our cat had found a new friend. They were both black and white and our cat seemed to be not at all afraid of the skunk.
Back to the sweet shrub root that I planted. It must have not been the right time of the year to try and plant it. Yet, everyday I water it and hope the one last leaf will not fall off. I keep telling the plant to hang in there, as she can do it! I hear it is good to talk to plants.
This is all God’s creation. God blesses us when He allows that seed or plant we put in the soil to grow. Yet, if we never plant the seed there, there will never be a harvest. We are all gardeners as we plant some kind of seed each day. We can plant a seed of faith and watch how God allows that to grow. I have also had seeds of doubt and seeds of discouragement in my life. I want to be a sower of kind words, as I know how much of a difference they make in my life.
My daughter called me yesterday to tell me how her husband got an encouraging word as he was working yesterday. He was just doing his job, yet someone took time
to tell him thank you. They encouraged him in the Lord. That transformed his routine day into an extra-ordinary day. Showing God’s love will always make a difference. Just think about all the times it has made a difference in your life. That lady took time to share that seed of encouragement.
I pray that my words will be seeds that God can use for His honor and glory. “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him” (Psalm 126:5-6).
