I Am Now Clean

This is a very short version of my testimony. My name is Jamie Destiny Holmes, also known as Destiny. I started my addiction when I was about eleven years old. I was raised in a broken home and I thought the best way to be happy was to do things my way. So, I quit school and started partying, which eventually led me to getting put into a Youth Detention Center. When I became an adult, my

addiction got the best of me. I overdosed four times, attempted suicide several times, and ended up having a massive heart attack at the age of twenty-four. I lost my mother in 2012 and simply gave up on the world, my family, and myself.

One day, I was homeless and eating out of a dumpster when I said, “God, if you are real, I am asking for your help.” He helped me alright! Not long after, I was riding in the back of a police car on my way to jail for the first time. I was angry and mad at God. He knew the only way to get my attention was to put me somewhere long enough to sit me down. I ended up serving five years in Georgia State Prison.

On September 13, 2017, I was released from prison. I thought I had things figured out, so I went back and tried getting high one more time—all it did was cause me to overdose. I remember waking up in the hospital begging God to give me one more chance to get it right. After losing my family, my freedom, and everything I owned, I am now clean. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). I have received my associates degree in Accounting and I am a member of Immanuel United Fellowship Church. I also participate in praise dancing and American Sign Language. I would love to be a motivational speaker and a missionary one day.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
