An Ounce of Kindness

It was a morning when there was a battle going on in my mind. I was sleeping in at the suggestion of my spouse as he was heading out for an early-morning fasting wellness check at his doctor’s office. I felt like I should have gone with him. But I was lying in a warm bed instead. I had planned that, if I did go, it would be to buy him a nice breakfast afterward, and of course, I would get to eat also. I was sure he would have had to be starving, having to fast that morning. As I did my Bible study mid-morning, I was studying about faith and how God counted it to Abraham for righteousness.
Genesis 15:6: “And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.”
God made promises to Abraham, and He was faithful to fulfill those promises to him. He would be the father of many nations and own much land. God worked those promises out in His own timetable. God is the great promise keeper, and I’m so glad we can trust in Him.
My faith is oftentimes shaky, only trusting in what I can see. Just because I can’t see it doesn’t mean it is not real. Heaven is real, and so is hell; just ask the rich man who went there. He went there because of unbelief. That means he did not have his faith in the right things in this life. Where is my faith as I sit and write this out?
My husband just came back safely from his doctor’s appointment. It took him 45 minutes to drive his usual 15-minute trip to the doctor’s office. The fog had frozen again, making driving treacherous. The fog was freezing on his windshield, and he could not see the road in front of him. What a scary place to be! He had to put on his emergency flashers, and thank God, law enforcement saw him, stopped, and gave him assistance in clearing his windshield. He will tell you what a godsend this law officer was to come to him just at the time he needed him most.
We all face times when our windshield freezes over and the driving is treacherous in our life‘s journey. We need help. We need someone to reach out and show us an ounce of kindness and maybe even an ounce of love. Why not even throw in a pound of love? It won’t over-weigh the scales. Thank God for His love that does sustain us through all things at all times in our lives. Look again at 1 Corinthians 13, the chapter of love in the Bible: “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunted not itself, is not puffed up” (v. 4).
Psalm 91:4: “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”
Isaiah 26:3: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
Hold onto the comfort of God’s Word and take time today to show someone that ounce of kindness.
Praying for you today.
