Plan of Salvation:

World Day of Prayer March 4, 2011

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever shall believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

"Informal prayer leads to prayerful action" is the motto of The World Day of Prayer (WDP). The WDP is an ecumenical movement created by and composed of Christian women of many denominations worldwide who come together the first Friday of March every year. With more than 170 countries participating, each year a different country organizes the day and prepares resources. The WDP National and Regional Committees of that country prepare the order of worship and select the theme. This year, Chile is the organizing country. Their theme is "How Many Loaves Have You." On this day, the women participants of Chile will have an opening procession carrying a panara. That is the name Chileans give to their everyday bread. Eating and sharing bread is a universal sign of hospitality. They want us to ponder: How many loaves have you? What are your gifts? What can you share? The World Day of Prayer had its origins in the U.S. in the 19th century with a day of prayer organized by Mary Ellen James, the wife of a Presbyterian minister. Two years later, two Baptists called for a Day of Prayer, and this slowly grew into the WDP. Collective prayers begin at sunrise and end at the last sunset. Before, on and after the 2011 World Day of Prayer, the USA Committee reminds us of the women of Chile. They have spoken of a world of hunger and great anguish, and where noise prevents many from hearing the voices of the impoverished. The questions remain from the women of Chile, "How many loaves have you?" "What do you have to share with others?"

Romans 10:9

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Open Doors Calls For Prayer for Christians In Egypt The current violence in Egypt is challenging for Christians there and Open Doors USA is calling on the church in the West to unite in prayer for believers and the future of the country. "While the huge protests in the streets against the government of President Hosni Mubarak have not been targeting Christians, it is causing the churches to suspend some services and ministry activities in the Cairo area," says Dr. Carl Moehller, President of

Open Doors USA. "It is also causing many to consider the consequences of a potentially more radical Muslim government replacing the current regime. While the situation is still very unclear, the potential for any power vacuum to be filled with extremist political groups is very real and could have grave consequences. "The events of recent days show that while the majority of Egyptians support the existence of the Coptic church, there are ex-

tremist elements of that society that will even bomb churches in order to promote their ideology. Many more Muslim Egyptians, while not militant, are religiously opposed to those who convert to Christianity from Islam. Muslim Background Believers continue to face widespread hostility simply for wanting to exercise religious freedom and change their religion from Islam to Christianity." An Egyptian church leader told Open Doors: "Can you join us in prayer for peace for our
