Vengeance Is the Lord’s

Six months ago, I was engaged and full of excitement. I thought I found my knight in shining armor, but this was very short-lived due to some very bad situations. Thankfully, I was able to get out of it with my mind and heart still intact.

Three months later, I honestly think satan does not always come as himself, he can use other individuals to provoke you to act like him. Every time I am out working or simply walking out of my house, I can think about all of the bad things I would do to the person who hurt me. But as I think about Jesus, those thoughts slowly leave my mind and fear leaves my body. I cannot help but think about when Jesus said He will never leave nor forsaken us.

We should not just feel safe in our cars, in our homes, or when we are around people or a person that we know can protect us— we should always feel safe knowing that the Lord is always there. Psalm 63:7-8 says, “Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.”

Now, when I think about that fear, the what-ifs no longer cross my mind. I keep my mind on Christ, knowing I have a friend in the Lord. I know that He will not let a single hair on my head be touched. When I am moving in fear like my daddy is not almighty, it is an insult to Jesus himself.

Romans 12:17-19, “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.”

These verses remind us that we do not have to take revenge for a wrong done to us because vengeance is truly the Lord’s. His vengeance can change that person’s life for the better, just like what He did to Paul. His life was changed from that day and millions were saved.

If I take vengeance into my own hands, I will make the situation worse than it is. Remember Genesis 4:15, “And the Lord said unto him, ‘Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.’ And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.” We will never know the year, day, hour, or minute, but if we have and keep the faith of a mustard seed, we shall see the salvation of the Lord. No one is exempt, everyone shall reap what they sow—either good or bad—for it is the Word of the Lord.
