The great English countryside county, Herefordshire is home to many quaint and charming villages. One notable village is Kilpeck, bursting with history and culture. Any good village must have a good pub, the Kilpeck Inn serves this purpose.
KILPECK INN
The building has been an integral part of the community since 1750, in 2009 it underwent a major refurb to bring the historical building into the 21st Century. If you like to be surrounded by rich countryside and even richer historical culture then The Kilpeck Inn may be your cup of tea, or pint of Butty Bach in our case! Manager Ross Williams told us a little more… What is there to do in Kilpeck? Kilpeck is bursting with history but is most famous for its 12th century church, which is just 200 yards away from the Inn’s front door. The remains of the recently restored castle are also close by. South Herefordshire countryside is a walker’s paradise. We are on the new Herefordshire trail as well as being ideally placed to access the Wye Valley Walk and the Monnow Valley Walk. If cycling is more your thing, National Cycling Route 46 goes right past our front door. What feeds your passion for food and where does your inspiration come from? I’ve always been passionate about good food, living and working in Herefordshire, with all the great produce we have only feeds that. We’re really spoilt for choice when it comes to great food and drink.
Talk to us about your excellent menu and drinks you have to offer… We source as much of our food as possible from local suppliers. This way we can guarantee freshness and quality, supporting the local economy at the same time. Our meat is supplied by Neil Powell Master Butcher in nearby Ewyas Harold. Our bread comes from award winning artisan baker Alex Gooch, smoked fish from Lay & Robson in the next village, and farmhouse ice cream from just up the road at Rowlestone Court. The menu features everything from sandwiches and light lunches through perennial favourites such as our homemade burgers and famous fish & chips. Our a la carte menu which showcases the best local and seasonal produce in exciting and delicious dishes. Herefordshire boasts a wealth of great drinks producers, we stock gin from Williams Chase and Haven Distillery, liqueurs from Gun Dog Gin, Herefordshire Cassis, as well as ales from Wye Valley Brewery. What can we expect from the Kilpeck inn over the next year? We’ve recently appointed Dan Bowley as head chef, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience. Daniel will continue to push the Inn forwards and put his stamp on the food. Daniel will use locally sourced ingredients to produce fantastic seasonal menus. 24
You have rooms too, so we could stop off after a few drinks and food, tell us a little about them… The Kilpeck Inn was recently named as one of the Daily Telegraph’s ’10 perfect country pubs with rooms’. We have four luxurious en-suite bedrooms, all named after local rivers, with creature comforts including down filled duvets, crisp Egyptian cotton sheets, flat screen TVs and WiFi, not forgetting our famous Kilpeck breakfast! I see being environmentally friendly is very important to you, what is the Inn doing to be more so? When the Inn was refurbished 7 years ago, it was designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Among other green features we have solar heating roof panels, a rainwater collection tank to feed the toilets, and the highest specification insulation. Our policy of sourcing as much food locally as possible also cuts down on ‘food miles’.
