Allen Sadler Hair Salon in Penarth has been in business since 1976. Vale Life chats to owner Allen to discover more about its history and the reasons why this much loved Penarth salon is so popular.
A LLEN SADLER
I started my five year apprenticeship at fifteen in 1958 to Mr Ken Jones, a well-known gents hairdresser/barber and learnt all my skills there. I then managed another salon for him, again in Penarth before moving to a salon in Cardiff.
I am very proud to have built such a successful business, but I could not have achieved this alone. I have my wife Barbara and daughter Kirsty and a very dedicated and loyal team to thank. Terry, Zoe and Nic have been with me for well over 20 years.
I met my wife Barbara, also a hairdresser, and we decided to combine our knowledge and opened Allen Sadler, a unisex salon. I was very keen to improve my skills and attended several courses in London, learning and picking up skills from top stylists. Continual training is something I strongly believe in and that is why our staff are trained regularly on the latest techniques and trends by our stockists Goldwell.
Our clients come not only from Penarth but Cardiff and the Vale and further afield. “What makes clients come to us?” asks Allen. “I believe it’s that we offer the standards that you would expect from the City but at Penarth prices. Our staff are young, dynamic and happy; our clients often remark on the happy atmosphere. We are all proud of the service we provide. 28
We have always given a very personal service and this is obvious from the loyal client base, some of whom are several generations of family members.”
