The 24th of May 2014 is an important date for Penarth Pier Pavilion as it was the day that Kristy Mellin married her fiancé of two years, Lee Williams and the Pavilion’s first ever wedding. We chatted to Kristy to find out how the happy day went.

MR & MRS

Where did your husband propose to you? In our kitchen. The last of the great romantics! What made you decide on the Penarth Pier Pavilion as your wedding venue? We moved to Penarth in 2011, and we absolutely love living there, so we definitely wanted to get married in Penarth. We think the Pavilion is the most beautiful and iconic building in Penarth. It was the obvious choice for us. Who was the wedding coordinator there? Nardine Simons. She was a joy to work with.

Did the day go without a hitch? Not quite. My Jimmy Choo heel got stuck between the planks of wood on the pier when we were having our photos taken, and broke! Describe how you felt on the day? It was raining, which you would think might have spoilt it, but we all had a laugh about the good old Welsh weather. It also made for some really good atmospheric photos on the pier. The venue was beautifully decorated, and the food was wonderful. The band (I-Rock) were fantastic. They had everyone up dancing all night. Everyone had a really good day, and lots of fun. In place of wedding favours, we made a donation to Macmillan Cancer Care and Friends of the Dogs Wales. Some of the volunteers from Friends of the Dogs Wales came to see us on our wedding day, and brought two of the dogs from Cardiff Dogs Home with them, which was lovely. Thankfully both dogs have since been rehomed. 104

How was the best man speech? Our best man was very nervous, so we let him off making a speech. We didn’t really want lots of long speeches anyway. Where did you get your rings? We went to The Diamond Centre of Wales for both our engagement and wedding rings. Where did you buy your dress? My dress was called Splendour by Suzanne Neville at High Society in Cowbridge.

“ The venue was beautifully decorated, and the food was wonderful.”
