APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

All applicants must submit the following: • A signed and fully completed application form received no later than April 13, 2011.

The Art in the Garden Festival is a major event for those who enjoy �ne art, quality entertainment, and gourmet food and wine. The event was begun in 2008 as a means to raise money to be used for charitable purposes within the community. In addition to live music and gourmet appetizers, it is a one-day juried outdoor show of �ne art that welcomes applications from artists producing original work in several media. Originality of concept, execution, quality of workmanship and design excellence are the primary criteria used during the evaluation process. ORIGINAL WORK ONLY.

MASS PRODUCED ITEMS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. Selected professional artists may display their framed, original art for sale, with 30% commission going to the Festival fundraiser. A non-refundable entry fee of $25 is required to be submitted with the application. Chosen artists will be featured in newspaper and online photographs and/or articles and linked from the Art in the Garden website to their website. Any exhibitor not displaying work similar to that which was juried will be required to remove work that is not representational of materials submitted for jurying.

DISPLAY AREA

Artist’s work will be displayed inside of covered, 3-sided tents or in a building. Each 2-D artist will be allowed two panels, on hollow-core doors each measuring 27” by 6.4’, on which to hang their work. Paintings must be framed and ready to hang with wire. Each 3-D artist will be allowed a space 5’x5’ in which to display their work. Sculpture artists must provide their own pedestals. All artists must provide their own title and price cards. It is highly recommended that artists vary the sizes and prices of the work they are showing in order to appeal to a variety of purchasers.

ACCEPTANCE

Due to limited space, no more than 22 applicants will be accepted into this show. All applicants will receive noti�cation of their status of acceptance by May 10, 2011. Every artist accepted into this show is REQUIRED to work plein air on the show premises, in the medium juried, during the hours the show is open to the public. Artists must remain at the site, for the duration of the event, to interface with the public. Artists are required to provide their own umbrella or canopy to work under. Art considered must be oil, acrylic, pastel, illustration or watercolor if 2-D, bronze, wood or stained glass panels if 3-D. Subject matter must conform to the positive atmosphere of the festival. Pieces in poor taste will be removed.

SALES PROCEDURES

Art sales will be handled by docents working within the art gallery tents or buildings. Each docent(s) will be assigned certain artists whose work they will represent. Artists are encouraged to arrive several hours early to the event in order to set up the display of their work and have time to interact with the docent(s) assigned to represent them. All monies will be paid to the Art in the Garden event with sales tax added on to the purchase price. A 30% commission, plus the tax, will be deducted from the �nal price, with the balance going to the selling artist.

LOCATION

Chris Mountain Ranches is located approximately 1.5 miles west of City Market off of U.S. Hwy. 160. When proceeding west on Hwy. 160, turn right into the gated entrance (which will be open) and follow the split rail fence on your LEFT to the end. When you reach a decision point, bear left until the split rail fence ends. Turn right into the Pacharzina driveway and follow it to parking.

CANCELLATION

If you are selected to participate and you decide to withdraw from the event you must notify the Art in the Garden Board in writing by June 10, 2010. Artists withdrawing after this date will be disquali�ed from showing their work in an Art in the Garden Art Show for a period of two (2) years.

SET-UP/GENERAL INSURANCE

Exhibitors will be allowed access to the display area beginning at 9 a.m. on the morning of the show. Spaces will be clearly marked. Please follow the directions of the volunteer staff regarding parking for unloading and general parking. Insurance of work and display is the responsibility of the participating artists. Please be advised that the organizers, or any parties involved in the running of the event, will not be held responsible or accountable for any loss or damage to property. ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Please submit on a separate sheet an Artist Biography of 100 words or less. If wished, you may also submit on a separate sheet an Artist Statement of 50 words or less. Please type or print clearly.

SAMPLES OF RECENT WORK I have enclosed three recent samples of my work, including a media list that provides title, date, medium and actual dimensions of each image submitted. I am enclosing a CD containing samples of my work at 300 dpi by no more than 8” x 10”. I will send an email to marykathryn@ centurytel.net with 300 dpi JPEGs no more than 5”x7”. I am enclosing three 8”x10” prints of my work. By submitting these image samples, the artist denotes acceptance of their use in publicity materials for the Art in the Garden Festival 2011.

All support materials of selected artists will be held by the Art in the Garden Festival Board until completion of the show for the purpose of event promotion and/ or media. Should your submission not be selected, your support material will be returned to you in your self-addressed stamped envelope. Materials will not be mailed to applicants who do not provide a selfaddressed envelope of suf�cient size.

RULES

All exhibitors, by submitting an application, agree to abide by the rules of the Art Festival. Artists are expected to be at and remain at the event until closing. Early take-down of display is not permitted. Exhibitors agree to comply with any reasonable request by the organizers with regards to displays and conduct.

AWARDS

Winning artists will be selected by the jurors from artwork exhibited during the art festival on August 20, 2011. Awards given will be as follows: Best of Show: $250.00 People’s Choice: $150.00 2012 AITG Poster Artist: $100.00 All artists selected to participate in this show understand that by entering they are denoting their acceptance of creating an original piece of art, if they are the winning poster artist, which will be reproduced in posters and other materials publicizing the 2012 Art in the Garden Festival. The posters will be sold and the funds received will �rst go to recovering the cost of printing and then to charitable needs within the community. The artist further agrees that he/she will have completed the work on the poster original art no later than March 1, 2012 and will supply good reproductive quality digital photographs of this work to the Art in the Garden Board. The original work belongs to the artist to be sold at their discretion.

JURORS

Professor and Department Head, Adams State College Art Department, Margaret Doell received her BFA in photography from the University of Manitoba and her MFA in printmaking from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. She spent time as a resident artist at the Banff Centre for the Arts and the West Baf�n Eskimo Co-op and taught at Concordia University, Mount Allison University and the University College of the Cariboo before coming to ASC in 1996. Doell has exhibited her work across Canada and the United States and her work in printmaking was recently included in the book “The Best of Printmaking: An International Collection.” Margaret continues to work in both printmaking and photography, particularly alternative photography processes and lithography. Professor Eugene Schilling received his BFA degree from the University of Nebraska and a MFA from Colorado State University. Professor Schilling is responsible for all levels of painting as well as advanced level drawing courses at Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. In addition to his teaching assignments he is also the Gallery Director for the ASC Art Department. He has exhibited paintings and drawings both nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at the Berman Museum of Art in Collegeville, PA, the Museum of Neon Art in Los Angeles, CA and the Isetan Museum of Art in Tokyo, Japan.
