Company 4 Fountain dedicated to Dickson fire station renovation is underway Project will add an office, bunkrooms, and a new kitchen to Fife facility By Roslyn Ryan Editor
A looming summer storm may have hastened the proceedings just a bit, but volunteers and supporters of Fife’s Company 4 Fire Station still managed to take time last Saturday night to celebrate a moment they’d been looking forward to for several years. Gathering at the firehouse on HadensvilleFife Road, the group — which included Goochland County Fire Rescue Chief Bill MacKay and District 1 supervisor Susan Lascolette — broke ground on what will be an extensive renovation of the firehouse, a building that served as a school until being converted into a two-bay station in the mid-1950s. Other renovations followed, including a project that would add two more bays in the 1980s, but, as Company 4 officials explained Saturday, the building is simply no longer able to meet the needs of current volunteers. The renovation will add bunkrooms, an office and a new kitchen facility to the firehouse, as well as upgrade bathrooms and shower facilities and replace the building’s inefficient septic system.
