For Judy Crutchfield, fighting cancer isn’t just a worthwhile pastime — it’s personal. Crutchfield, who is helping head up Goochland’s annual Relay for Life effort for the 10th year, has seen first-hand the terrible toll cancer can take, including watching it claim a close friend and threaten her sister’s life. “Everybody knows somebody who has dealt with this,” Crutchfield said. That’s why she will be among the crowd of dedicated county residents circling the Goochland Elementary School track Saturday to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life, a community-based event that will mark its 20th anniversary in Goochland this year, is the largest fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and one that has raised millions of dollars for research and support since its founding in 1985. see Relay > 5
