Goochland man saved by some quick thinking By Jim Ridolphi Special Correspondent

The quick thinking and fast actions of some Oilville Exxon employees and patrons made the difference between life and death for one Goochland resident in a December incident. Just as Roger Hix pulled into the station and exited his vehicle, he collapsed on the pavement of the popular outlet just off Interstate 64. Employees inside the stateion

wasted no time in picking up the phone and calling 911. Beth Harcum, Kristin Smith and Kelvin Lewis immediately noticed that Hicks was experiencing a life threatening medical emergency and quickly took measures to help. What might have been a relatively uneventful Goochland School Board meeting took on more drama last week, as a number of speakers told the board they did not want to see the Goochland High School

and Randolph Elementary School principals replaced. The board also approved, after a closed session late in the evening, a resolution eliminating four school positions, that of Testing Coordinator, Teacher Induction and Professional Development Specialist, Gifted and Enrichment Specialist, and Student Services Specialist as of June 30. But the first order of business was to deal with the principal con-

troversy. “What changed in this person’s leadership role for 39 years, what changed in the last two months since the newly elected board got on position?” asked George Nickalaou, referring to speculation that Randolph principal Dianna Gordon might be reassigned.
