An annual report of how your gift to Gonzaga Prep advances our mission, transforms lives, uplifts our community, strengthens our programs, and secures our future.
OUR MISSION: Gonzaga Preparatory School is a Catholic, Jesuit college preparatory school that educates students according to Gospel values, inspiring leaders who create a more just and loving world.
MICHAEL DOUGHERTY President
At Gonzaga Prep, cura personalis—our Jesuit tradition of caring for the whole person—is the heartbeat of our educational mission. It shapes every lesson we teach, every relationship we nurture, and every opportunity we create, ensuring our students grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. This holistic approach shapes every aspect of their journey, encouraging them to engage with the world through empathy, purpose, and a commitment to justice. By fostering these values, we empower our students to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others with kindness and intention, creating waves of positive change that extend far beyond our walls.
Your support is the living expression of our mission, bringing this tradition to life and making its values a reality for our students. You are not only providing them with a transformative education, but also directly modeling the principles of compassion and service that we strive to instill. Your commitment inspires a ripple effect of generosity and kindness, showing our students how to live with purpose and a dedication to making a meaningful difference in the world. Your generosity ensures that more students can experience the life-changing education Gonzaga Prep offers, equipping them to make a meaningful impact on their communities and the world.
Because of you, the next generation of Bullpups will leave Gonzaga Prep inspired by the compassion and generosity they’ve experienced, and ready to carry this spirit into the world. They will use the knowledge and skills they’ve gained to uplift others and continue the legacy of caring for the whole person, fulfilling the true mission of cura personalis in their lives and communities.

JIM BRASCH `76 Chair, board of directors
“Take, Lord, receive. ...you have given all to me. To you, I return it.” These words from St. Ignatius welcomed the nearly 500 who attended the Scholarship and Fair Share Luncheon held in October on the Gonzaga Prep campus. Over the next hour, we witnessed the profound difference your generosity makes in the lives of students at this sacred place.
I am Jim Brasch, proud graduate of the class of 1976, and this year’s board chair. My years of service on the board have strengthened my conviction in the necessity of the type of education that Gonzaga provides—Jesuit, Catholic, academically rigorous and college preparatory, but more importantly, one that is deeply transformative. The graduate truly is religiously alive, committed to justice, intellectually engaged, loving, and ready to serve. This is the person you help form with your support. Your unending generosity sustains this mission, empowering teachers, mentors, and staff to bring it to life for each student. For this, we thank you.
The foremost responsibility of the board is to hold the mission in trust, ensuring its strength and vitality for future generations. It provides oversight and strategic guidance, always striving for the Magis. Our aim is excellence, achieved through the constant pursuit of improvement. Through these efforts, we construct a strong foundation for the ongoing success of the school.
This commitment to excellence is validated by the results of recent parent, faculty, and staff surveys. These demonstrated a high degree of satisfaction with the school’s academic program and alignment with its mission. The campus is vibrant and spiritually alive, as evidenced by high engagement in weekly Mass and service projects, such as the annual Food Drive, supported by the service and justice curriculum. Our educational programs, in conjunction with the Academic Success and Learning Resource Centers, are given life by a dedicated and talented faculty that prepare our students to excel. Our work, in collaboration with the leadership team, helps make this possible.
In that spirit of collaboration, the board, administration, and faculty continue to seek ways to envision opportunities for enhanced partnership and shared responsibility. We believe this approach strengthens our commitment to create an environment where Jesuit values of service, justice and respect thrive. It acknowledges our commitment to each other and in doing so, advances our mission.
The spirit of Gonzaga Prep is fully alive, driven by the collaboration of faculty, staff, administration, Board of Directors and the Foundation Board. Together with students, parents, alumni and benefactors, we move forward a mission that ultimately builds a more loving and just world. ...one student at a time.
St. Ignatius has said “Love is shown more in deeds than in words.” Thank you for your love of this school and the work you do to exemplify that love.
A Gonzaga Prep education challenges students to pursue excellence in a rigorous academic environment with individual support through which they discover and become stewards of their God-given gifts. It is a chance to cultivate their growth and development into responsible young adults ready for success in college and beyond.
STUDENT RECIPIENTS LAST YEAR & 105 100+ $456,525 AWARDED NAMED SCHOLARSHIPS WITH
Gonzaga Prep has impacted my life in more ways than I can describe. I have become more of the person I aspire to be, and I have become more of a leader, an amazing friend, a role model, a person for others, and someone who expresses a great amount of gratitude.
Many of my fellow classmates have impacted my experience by being there for me whenever I needed them, and always being people I can come to just to hang out or have a good laugh. Prep has taught me that community is so much more than just the group of people you belong to. Community is loving those around you, spending quality time with them, learning more about them as people, and trying new things with the people that surround you. Had I not gone to Gonzaga Prep, I would’ve never learned about the vital aspects of a community and would not have known what a gift it is to be a part of an amazing community.
Being a part of the Campus Ministry team has changed who I am, and continues to challenge me every day. Though it’s a large commitment, Campus Ministry gives even greater rewards for the hard work it takes. I have learned how to work even better with others and I now know what it truly means to be on a team that supports and helps each other no matter what.
Gonzaga Prep also constantly reminds me of all the things I can be grateful for in life. Having the faith that is built into this school helps me realize all the gifts we are all given by God, and by those around us. Whether that be through actions, words, and interactions, big or small, I’m always grateful for everything that has been given to me. And through that gratitude, I constantly want to give back to my community, and to Prep, through serving others and being there for people around me who may be struggling.
Ultimately, Gonzaga Prep has helped me become the person I aspire to be, and showed me a community that’s like no other.
I recently graduated from the University of Notre Dame, majoring in finance and minored in philosophy and real estate. I’m now working at KKR, a global investment firm in New York. I remember the day eight years ago when my parents heard that I had received enough financial assistance to make attending Gonzaga Prep possible. I had been awarded the Coach Bill Frazier Scholarship.
Two years later my brother was starting high school. We didn’t know if we would both be able to attend Gonzaga Prep if I wasn’t awarded the scholarship. Again, I got a letter in the mail that I had received the scholarship. And a second time I knew it was possible to attend Gonzaga Prep for my remaining two years.
I love Gonzaga Prep, and I loved those four years, and I miss those four years. But I can’t go back. What I can do is be that positive impact for students in the future. And that’s why I chose to fund a scholarship. I wanted to fund it because I truly appreciated when I got one. I really can’t put into words what going to Prep meant to me.
When you make a donation or fund a scholarship to Gonzaga Prep, you’re not just donating money and looking away. You’re actually taking a journey with someone— directly involved in their education.
I would argue that funding a scholarship has the highest marginal benefit of anything you can do with any surplus of income that you have.
I don’t see an investment anywhere else, paying the dividends in the long term, than giving back to Prep. You’re going to see it tangibly, but you’re also going to see it intangibly. You’re directly affecting the students whose lives you’re helping.

A Gonzaga Prep education teaches our students to seek their highest potential by harnessing their education and devoting their lives to building a more just and loving world. The truest measure of the success of our mission is found in the good that our students do for others, especially those at the margins.
Our Margins New Orleans team, pictured with Steve Gleason `95, focused on economic justice, evaluating and investigating the complexities of economic influence on poverty, disaster recovery, and extreme gentrification/segregation.

During my time at Gonzaga Prep, I’ve really gotten into social justice work, found my place in the community, and discovered new activities that I love. I feel a strong sense of belonging in the Service and Justice Office, with Equity and Inclusion, at weekly Mass, and on sports teams. Over the past couple of years, I’ve been lucky enough to go on three school trips for social justice, leadership, and advocacy.
My interest in social justice started with the Margins trip my freshman year. One morning, we got up early to go to Grace at the Green Light, where we served breakfast to people who are unsheltered in New Orleans. I’ll never forget the joy on their faces when they saw us, high school students, there to serve food and listen to their stories. Just knowing that we made a difference in their day, making them feel seen and loved, left a huge impression on me. That experience is what made me want to help deliver Food Drive items during my sophomore year.
This year, I went to Washington, D.C., for the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice with other students and teachers from Prep. We attended breakout sessions to learn about specific issues and ways to help our communities. One session that really stuck with me was called Stories of Death Row: Mobilizing Young Catholics for Change. In that session, we
met Shujaa Graham, an innocent man who had been sentenced to death for killing a prison guard. His story left me speechless. Shujaa talked about how, while he was in prison, high school students visited him and promised they would help him. He didn’t believe them at first, but after he was released, he was so grateful for their commitment to justice. He told us about the impact those students had on his life and how young people can really make a difference. It was powerful to hear how much our voices matter.
I’ve also found that I really enjoy leadership, whether it’s being on class council, helping out at retreats, being part of the Agape service group, or talking to younger students. I especially love giving tours at events like Open House because I get to meet new people, and it feels great to connect with them one-on-one.
ALL OF THESE EXPERIENCES HAVE HELPED ME GROW IN WAYS I DIDN’T EXPECT.
GONZAGA PREP HAS TAUGHT ME SO MUCH ABOUT MYSELF AND HELPED ME APPRECIATE THE COMMUNITY AROUND ME.
The Annual Fund is essential to advance the excellence and accessibility of our transformative education. Supporting the Annual Fund helps meet the needs of today by helping Gonzaga Prep welcome all students, improving our programs to serve everyone, and enhancing the impact of this education. It enables us to go beyond the ordinary, impacting educational and co-curricular programs that enhance our students’ experience.
AT GONZAGA PREP, WE DEFINE EXCELLENCE AS THE COMMITMENT TO CHALLENGE AND SUPPORT EACH STUDENT, ENCOURAGING THEM TO RECOGNIZE AND DEVELOP THEIR GOD-GIVEN GIFTS. Through our curriculum, programs, and dedicated educators, students uncover their unique strengths and are inspired to share them in service to others.
In a world shaped increasingly by ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, Gonzaga Prep equips students with a keen awareness of its potential risks, alongside skills to harness its power. We prioritize creativity and effective communication, preparing students to lead with integrity, critical thinking, and purposeful expression in the 21st century. Our students are stepping boldly into this future.
Under the guidance of Christian Birrer `86, director of the WRITING LAB, a writing-enhanced curriculum has been developed to shape college- and career-ready thinkers and communicators. His yearlong research into best practices has refined this curriculum to cultivate skills essential for success in today’s world.
THE ACADEMIC SUCCESS CENTER thrives as a collaborative space where students and teachers work together, supporting students in their pursuit of academic excellence. On-demand tutoring, dedicated faculty
support, and study tables at lunch provide the tools and encouragement for students to thrive in a rigorous college preparatory environment.
Expanding our SCIENCE ELECTIVES with courses in engineering, robotics, and environmental science opens new avenues for students to pursue STEM excellence.
Enhanced SCHOOL SECURITY measures, including electronic locks and expanded video surveillance, ensure a safe learning environment that gives families peace of mind.
THE OFFICE OF COLLEGE COUNSELING has amplified support for students from grades 9-12 at every stage of the college application journey. From group meetings and informative sessions for parents to individualized support for juniors and seniors discerning their college paths, we are committed to guiding students toward bright futures.

Your support of the Foundation is an enduring legacy that secures the long-term sustainability of the school. The Foundation helps us meet the needs of tomorrow. Our Jesuit fathers dedicated their lives to make this mission possible—today it is your financial support of our Foundation that carries the mission not only to our current students but to their families and our community for generations. A gift to the Foundation is a promise to carry forward the gift of Jesuit education for all.
The Foundation’s vision comes to life through the remarkable achievements of the students it supports. In the 2023-2024 academic year, 60 percent of students received vital Fair Share and scholarship assistance made possible by the Foundation. Despite market challenges, the Foundation’s partnership with Gonzaga University in investment management continues to deliver strong results, positioning Gonzaga in the top 5 percent of universities nationally across 1-, 3-, 5-, and 10-year benchmarks.
This year, the Foundation Board has shifted its focus from asset management to prioritizing new fundraising initiatives. The board also expanded by adding members from across the country, all dedicated to advancing Prep’s mission. This growth, together with the commitment of current members, allows us to fully engage our extensive alumni network, creating a national platform for enhancing academic and experiential opportunities. Each board member plays an active role in driving fundraising efforts nationwide, amplifying the Foundation’s reach and impact.
