Like many of you, on Easter Sunday this year I watched Fr. Stephen Planning, S.J.—who had just recently recovered from the coronavirus—celebrate a virtual Mass broadcast from Our Lady’s Chapel on Eye Street. Although very different from any Easter Mass I had ever attended, it was a beautiful, moving service that reminded me of the incredible strength and resilience of the Gonzaga community. That strength and resilience has manifested itself in many ways during this tumultuous and uncertain spring. Gonzaga’s teachers pivoted to distance learning with energy, creativity, and care. Coaches, counselors, campus ministers, and club moderators adapted to new ways to keep student activities and engagement going, albeit at a distance. And the students of Eye Street—despite profound disappointment—have shown tenacity and spirit that makes me, as an alumnus, extremely proud of these young men. These examples remind me that while our world has changed drastically over the last two months, the faith in and love for Gonzaga and commitment to Jesuit education that so many of us feel remains untouched. As the chief fundraiser for Gonzaga, that gives me hope at a time when it can sometimes feel in short supply. But make no mistake, the turbulence of the current situation is being felt at Gonzaga. This year, the school was depending on the Gonzaga Fund to raise over $3.8 million to support the school’s operating budget. Meeting that goal is essential in order to fulfill our commitment to provide tuition assistance to over one-third of our students and support our talented and committed faculty and staff. Today I ask that you show your love and commitment for Gonzaga by helping us meet our obligations and continue to provide the very best—to our faculty, staff, and most importantly to our students. I firmly believe that even in these unprecedented times, we can demonstrate to the current young men on Eye Street that we support and stand with them throughout this ordeal.

On the pages that follow, you will find a listing of all of those benefactors who have made a gift thus far in the 2019-2020 fiscal year (as of April 17). For those of you who have already made a gift, we are enormously grateful. For those who have yet to give, I hope you’ll consider supporting the school before the fiscal year closes on June 30, 2020. Please know that all gifts make a difference, no matter the size. It is the collective impact of our entire community—including you—that will help us continue to deliver on our Jesuit mission on Eye Street. Now more than ever, I thank you for your loyalty and generosity to Gonzaga. Faithfully yours,

David Dugan ’98 Vice President of Alumni & Advancement 202.412.0584 ddugan@gonzaga.org
