Surigao del Norte is a province in the Philippines located in the Caraga region of Mindanao. Its capital is Surigao City. The province consists of two major islands Siargao and Bucas Grande in the Philippine Sea, and a small region at the northernmost tip of the island of Mindanao. This mainland portion borders Agusan del Norte, and Surigao del Sur to the south.

Surigao del Norte is the second northernmost of the Mindanao provinces and is an important transportation hub between Visayas and Mindanao. Numerous ferries cross the Surigao Stait between Surigao and the island ofLeyte carrying vehicles and passengers between Liloan in Southern Leyte and Surigao City.

BY AIR: There are daily flights from Manila to Surigao City,the capital of the province.

BY LAND: There are several buses around Surigao City (Surigao del Norte) from Butuan,Davao,Liloan (Southern Leyte), and Manila via RORO.

By Sea: There is a pier two kilometers south of the plaza that serves ferry and RORO boats from Manila, Cebu, and Liloan (Leyte).

IN SURIGAO DEL NORTE

Siargao Island

Siargao Island contains the largest mangrove forest reserves in Mindanao, at Del Carmen.[citation needed] Long stretches of wetlands indicate a potential for commercial seaweed ..propagation.

The island of Leyte is to its west, across Surigao Strait, and Mindanao is to its south. Its main island, Dinagat, is about 60 kilometres. (37 mi) from north to south.
