GONZAGA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

Dean’s Message

At Gonzaga University, we are proud of our deep commitment to the arts. As a Jesuit, humanistic university, we believe the arts are essential to what it means to be human. They help us tell our stories, see the world through new eyes, and imagine bold new futures. Our commitment to the arts is expressed in our classrooms, in our engagement with regional and national education and arts organizations, and through numerous opportunities for patrons to directly experience “ARTS at GONZAGA” on our campus.

At a time when many organizations are stepping away from the arts, Gonzaga is doing something different. We are leaning in. We are leaning into creativity that leads to understanding, to understanding that sparks innovation, to innovation that changes the world. We invite you to lean in with us and experience the power of the arts up close by joining us for our 2025-2026 season.

There is something for everyone...and all are welcome!

Welcome to the inaugural season of ARTS at GONZAGA — a unified celebration of the vibrant artistic life across our campus and community. The 2025-2026 season brings together an inspiring array of performances, concerts, and exhibitions featuring the talents of Gonzaga students alongside nationally recognized artists showcased in the Jundt Art Museum and the Myrtle Woldson Center Presents series. We are also extremely honored to welcome many wonderful local arts and cultural organizations, who bring their creativity and vision to our venues throughout the year. The ARTS at GONZAGA are rich, diverse, and deeply rooted in a spirit of collaboration, creativity, and community.

Complexions Contemporary Ballet

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2025

7:30 PM

TICKETS: $28 - $48

“To watch them in action is to witness the impossible made manifest” – Broadway World

Led by dance icons Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, Complexions Contemporary Ballet has awakened audiences to a new, exciting genre with their singular approach of reinventing dance and contemporary ballet. Armed with a rich Alvin Ailey lineage and a cadre of 16 stunning dancers, Complexions has been hailed as a “matchless American dance company” by the Philadelphia Inquirer and “game-changing” by London’s The Guardian.

The first half of the evening will feature an eclectic selection of works from Complexions’ 30year history. The second act features a new work from 2023, For Crying Out Loud, in which Mr. Rhoden has choreographed a suite of works to iconic U2 hits including Where the Streets Have No Name, With or Without You, and Pride (In the Name of Love).

The Boston Globe labeled Hub New Music “contemporary chamber trailblazers” and called their debut album, Soul House, “ingenious and unequivocally gorgeous.” Founded in 2013, the Detroit-based ensemble has commissioned dozens of new works for its distinctive ensemble of flute, clarinet, violin, and cello. Hub’s “nimble quartet of winds and strings” (NPR) actively collaborates with today’s most celebrated composers on projects that traverse today’s rich musical landscape.

Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band

FRIDAY, JANUARY 16, 2026 | 7:30 PM

TICKETS: $22-$47

The Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band is an ensemble of Native and Indigenous jazz musicians from across Indian Country. Led by the celebrated vocalist and luminary Julia Keefe (Nez Perce), the ensemble brings charisma, passion, and purpose to every stage, leaving audiences both inspired and educated. Performing pieces from their underappreciated predecessors in jazz, like Mildred Bailey (Coeur d’Alene) and Jim Pepper (Kaw/Mvskoke), alongside works by contemporary Indigenous composers, the band spotlights a vibrant, long-standing tradition of Indigenous improvised music. The JKIBB features a ‘who’s who’ of Indigenous bandleaders, and since their debut in 2022, has headlined marquee events including the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

GRANDE

Presenting Partner: Gonzaga Dance

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2025

7:30 PM

TICKETS: $28 - $48

“A vibrant show weaving cherished Mexican traditions into a magical story of the season!” – LA Dance Chronicle

Campana Sobre Campana returns to the Myrtle Woldson Center for the holidays. Named for the beloved Andalusian Christmas Carol, this vibrant show weaves cherished Mexican traditions into a magical and musical story of the season. A cast of 11 musicians and 16 folkloric dancers celebrate a traditional rancheria Christmas through the performance of mariachi music and dance. Founded in 1994 by Jaime Cuéllar, the storied Mariachi Garibaldi has joined with South Texas-based Ballet Folklórico del Rio Grande under the artistic direction of Miguel Peña to create an unforgettable program where every note and dance step embodies the rich cultural tapestry of Christmas in Mexico!

Yagódy

FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 2026 | 7:30 PM

TICKETS: $20 - $45

Founded in Lviv in 2016, the Yagódy band began as a spontaneous project that grew out of their acting experience and love of folk music. Their approach to folk songs is unconventional: they reinterpret ancient melodies, immersing themselves in their drama and musical atmosphere. Each song for them is a separate action, a mini-performance in which Ukrainian vocals, Balkan rhythms, and ancient songs merge and find their way into the audience's hearts. Their music is the vibrations of nature, the call of blood that unites generations. It is a journey into the soul of everyone who is ready to feel connected to their own roots.

“ “Every note feels like a heartbeat of preservation, and it’s an extraordinary thing to witness.”
– American Press

Named in honor of James and Joann Jundt, whose generosity brought this vision to life, the museum serves as both an educational resource and a space for reflection and inspiration.

The museum provides space for traveling exhibitions and houses Gonzaga University's growing art collection. This collection features major pieces of glass art by Dale Chihuly, bronze sculptures by Auguste Rodin, and a diverse range of works on paper, paintings, ceramics, photographs, and tapestries. The collection pieces are periodically rotated from the storage vaults to the exhibition areas.

Jundt Art Museum spaces include the Jundt Galleries, a 2,800-square-foot gallery that can be divided into several exhibition spaces; the Arcade Gallery, a 1,288-squarefoot lobby for exhibitions; and the Chancellor's Room, a 1,450-square-foot exhibition lounge. The Jundt also includes the Print Study Room for Gonzaga's print collection.

Gonzaga ART

CREATIVITY. COMMUNITY. CONVERSATION.

At Gonzaga University, the Art Department fosters a vibrant creative community where every student is encouraged to explore their innate creativity as a vital part of learning and innovation.

Through inclusive dialogue and critical thinking, students learn to see more deeply, engage thoughtfully, and contribute meaningfully to contemporary conversations in the art world.

Faculty support both technical mastery and imaginative expression, emphasizing experimentation across media, subjects, and styles. Students build a strong foundation in art history and theory while refining their own artistic voice.

Each year, the department hosts visiting artists through the Kreielsheimer Visiting Artist Series and celebrates student achievement through BFA solo/twoperson exhibitions and the Senior Thesis Exhibition.

These experiences enrich a dynamic learning environment and highlight the diversity of student work.
