Nagambie MuseumFrom our collection
The young Shire of Goulburn was formed on land which had already proven agriculturally rich. In 1872, the Shire submitted grains to the Melbourne International Exhibition, which then were exhibited at the London International Exhibition.
By 1873 samples of wheat from the Goulburn Valley were exhibited at the Vienna World Fair, with over 26,000 other exhibits.

We have two medals won at the earlier fairs, but recently we found midst carefully housed framed items, a Medal for Merit awarded at Vienna to the Shire of Goulburn, for wheat.
It takes the form of a certificate, heavily gilded and bearing the clay casts of two medallions, celebrating 25 years of Emperor Franz Joseph's reign.
It was framed and had obviously been hanging on a wall for much of its life, possibly near smokey fires.
The Shire of Goulburn at the time of receiving the award was housed in a room owned by Stewart Kennedy, between Prentice and Marie streets. Two years later they had a room in the Mechanics Institute and it wasn’t until 1887, after the 'new' post office was built, that they moved to our museum building, adjacent to the courtroom. So this small certificate has had a long and varied life.
It is dusty and slightly bent behind the glass but we are in the process of seeking a grant for its conservation, after which it will take pride of place in our display of Shire of Goulburn items. This time well protected in a display case. Nagambie Historical Society is holding their AGM on August 22 at 2pm in the museum building. Refreshments to follow. All welcome.

Nagambie Football Netball Club

100 GAME MILESTONE
Congratulations to Mahony Fothergill another of our 2 time club junior premiership players that has returned to her home courts after several years at Euroa.
Playing in her 100th club game for the mighty Lakers today versus Longwood. We certainly love seeing our talented local girls back in the red, white and black for some senior netball years. It's also particularly pleasing to see Mahn joining the A grade list this season and playing an important role in the midcourt for her team.

Mahony started her junior netball for Lakers back in 2012 in the Under 15's age group finishing Runners Up that first season. In 2013 as top age Under 15's the girls went one better to finish as premiers. Testament to Mahony's skill in her 2015 season in the Under 17's she also played games in all 3 of our senior netball sides that same year.

2015 was the year she also added the 2nd premiership to her name with her Under 17's side finishing the season undefeated as premiers and championsAnother grand final day appearance in her 2016 season saw her B grade side finish runners up. Showing that Mahony is no stranger to finals action and we are hoping this year brings the same opportunity for her and our current A grade side.
Well done on this achievement Mahn, we hope today brings another win in this milestone game. We also secretly hope you continue to play till you can over take your amazing Mum's total games for the Lakers
Nagambie VS Longwood
ROUND 12
The sun was shining and the birds were singing as the Lakers took on the Redlegs at Nagambie (or temporary Redlegs Stadium). There was plenty of competitive action on display for the spectators on the courts and the field. Saturday night marked our Annual Ball at the Nagambie Brewery & Distillery and boy oh boy what a night it was. Over 110 people attended the Ball and were treated with lovely food and drinks, while we all danced the night away to local band Jam On It. Thanks to those volunteers behind the scenes who worked tirelessly to make the ball a night to remember. We hope that all who attended also enjoyed themselves and we can't wait to do it all again next year.

Nagambie Womens Football
Northern Country Womens League Presentation Night
Last night, a small delegation of Nagambie Womens Footballers and Officials attended the NCWL League Presentation Evening. Our first year didn't yield a win, but the improvement and teamwork of the Womens Footballers made their Club and supporters proud. Two of our footballers were nominated for the Rising Star award. Congratulations to Hannah Cotter and Emily Chapman who both played sensationally this season. One very special volunteer from Nagambie won the Volunteer of the Year award. It was none other than local legend and club stalwart Michael "Manga" Mensfeld. Here's what the league had to say about Manga:
"Michael has been involved at Nagambie for many years. Michael recently played his 350th game at Nagambie, is the Coach of the Reserves team and volunteers for the senior team. Despite of these commitments, Michael committed to being the team manager for the inaugural women’s team at Nagambie before the team was established, helping develop a foundation for the new team.

Michael’s hard work, commitment and dedication to the Women’s team at Nagambie has been instrumental in the successful establishment of Nagambie’s Women’s team. His support of the team extends far beyond his team manager role, including providing individual development"
Coach Breanna Davison was one of three coaches that were nominated for Coach of the Year. The amount of time and effort Breanna has put into training and coaching the women in their inaugural season has been tremendous and as a club we are extremely grateful. On behalf of your club and your community, we congratulate Hannah, Emily, and Breanna on their nominations and Michael on his award from the NCWL. We are very proud of our players and our volunteers. We hope to see you all back at Laker Land for Season 2024.
GO LAKERS!!
