BREGHAN CREATIONS

A birthday gift has blossomed into a thriving small business that’s bringing personalized creativity to homes across western Massachusetts For Meghan O’Donnell, owner of Breghan Creations in Southampton, what started as a casual crafting hobby has grown into a deeply fulfilling passion—and a community-supported enterprise.

Hello Go Local readers!

My name is Trent Levakis and I am the new editor of Go Local magazine. I started with Reminder Publishing in early 2021 where I worked in a part-time role twice a week helping distribute our freshly printed newspapers to delivery drivers in the early morning hours. By the fall of that same year, I was changing roles with Reminder Publishing as I was able to secure my first full-time reporting job as staff writer for the Hampshire Reminder.

After about a year spent gaining experience reporting in Hampshire County, I was transferred over to the Holyoke beat for the most part, before coming back to covering Hampshire County which I have been doing again for the last year. You can also see my byline occasionally in The Westfield News.

While I will still be continuing in my role for the Hampshire Reminder, I have been fortunate enough to get this new opportunity to also help oversee Go Local.

As someone who got into news writing first and foremost to cover sports, I have always been fascinated by the opportunity to tell stories that go beyond the outcomes on the field. To me, this is why with most of my career experience covering regular community news, I have always been more drawn to feature writing.

Being able to highlight a new business or showcase upcoming happenings in communities beyond the sometimes mundane regular news coverage has been my favorite part of the job as it allows for a deeper look and connection of the people that make up our communities.

Because of this, I feel like a great fit for the Go Local team and telling the stories in our communities on a deeper level. Every month, Go Local features diverse businesses and happenings across Western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut in a more nuanced way than your typical news feature, and that is something our readers appreciate, and something I hope to continue help providing alongside our team.

Go Local has built its history on moving a spotlight all around the region on the people and businesses helping make our regional community at large what it is, and connecting these businesses, people and their stories with you the readers. I hope to continue this legacy by working with our team in bringing these showcases to readers.

This month, Go Local highlights the return of Grinchmas at the Springfield Museums; Breghan Creations, a thriving small business bringing personalized creativity to home’s across Western Mass.; and Graze Craze, a new West Springfield charcuterie and catering business with unique offerings through curated customized charcuterie experiences.

Heading into 2026, I look forward to the year ahead in this new opportunity and to continue helping make Go Local the quality magazine readers have come to love it for.

Thanks for reading, Trent Levakis, Editor

THE PERFECT BITE AT ANY TIME

Life can be very hectic with juggling work, family and career; having the time to cook may not be an option. If you’re looking for something that’s affordable, high-quality and versatile for a holiday extravaganza, a corporate business meeting, a small family gettogether or an individual meal for yourself, Graze Craze takes you on a food experience for any occasion, making every moment truly worth celebrating.

Graze Craze is a nationwide catering franchise leading the way as the first to offer charcuterie made fresh to order. They’re known as Grazologists because they’ve perfected the art of creating beautiful, delicious charcuterie boards and love sharing them with their community. It was founded by Kerry Lee Sylvester, a U.S. Air Force veteran who saw an opportunity to turn the growing popularity of charcuterie into a made-to-order catering concept.

She developed the idea in Oklahoma and, in 2021, partnered with United Franchise Group (Starpoint Brands) to franchise the brand nationwide. Sadly, Sylvester passed away on Dec. 17, 2024, but her vision and creativity continue to inspire the brand’s growth across the country. Today, Brady Lee serves as President of Graze Craze, overseeing its continued expansion.

Graze Craze has over 100 locations across the country. Recently, a new location opened in West Springfield at 777 Riverdale St. In an interview with Go Local, owner Jessica Sinopoli expressed how deeply grateful she is to everyone who came to the opening and has heard nothing but good positive feedback.

“The grand opening was such a success,” said Sinopoli. “We showcased our full lineup, so all of our signature

charcuterie boards and bites were available to sample. It was an exciting, energy-filled event.”

She went on to say, “We chose this location because West Springfield and Riverdale Street in particular truly is the heart of the Valley. Riverdale Street is a major retail and shopping corridor, giving people access to what they need in one central place. I want our customers to have the option to either pick up their charcuterie boards quickly or have them delivered within a convenient radius.”

First-time customers can expect to be greeted by Sinopoli’s team of Grazologists, who are always ready to help them choose the perfect options for their party or event. They’re here to curate a beautiful, customized charcuterie experience that fits every occasion. They can cater to any dietary need, food restriction or people’s taste.

Their most popular board is the Gone Grazey, a mixture of meats, cheeses, fruits, veggies, and hummus. They also offer keto & vegetarian boards, as well as a Sweet ‘n’ Grazey board that has an assortment of desserts, brownies and house-baked cookies with lots of different fruits and jams.

“Charcuterie has been around for a long time,” said Sinopoli. “It’s something that people already have and want at their parties. Instead of having a meat tray and a veggie tray and fruit platter, this is a way of having all of those things combined in a visually stunning way.”

Sinopoli is a home cook who was raised in Massachusetts. She’s always connected food with love, and she takes pride in creating dishes that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Even when she’s just cooking for her

family at home, Sinopoli said she focuses on presentation as much as taste because people really do eat with their eyes first.

She and her husband and co-owner, Jason, wanted to build something of their own, something unique and meaningful. After exploring several ideas that didn’t quite align, Sinopoli started researching franchise opportunities. When they discovered Graze Craze, it felt like an obvious fit from the start.

“We’re really a one-stop shop,” Sinopoli pointed out. “Charcuterie boards represent a new way of eating. People are moving away from big sit-down meals and enjoying the flexibility to graze throughout the day.”

She continued, “That’s exactly where the name Graze Craze comes from. Grazing is about sampling a variety of flavors and creating what we call ‘perfect bites,’ unique combinations that bring people together to share and enjoy food in a fun, connected way.”

Sinopoli’s perfect bite is to take one of their mini bell peppers, add a bit of goat cheese and a splash of their raspberry jam. She loves mixing flavors together, putting a little bit of sweet and a little bit of savory in a bite. She’ll pair Manchego cheese with a piece of bourbon salami or spicy chorizo with a drizzle of honey.

Sinopoli’s daughter Louisiana, the future charcuterie queen of Western Mass., is already part of the dream. Sinopoli wanted to build something her family could be proud of and eventually pass down to her daughter.

“I’m thrilled about being here,” Sinopoli said. “West Springfield has always been a go-to destination when you’re planning a party because of the major stores on Riverdale Street. It’s centrally located, calling out to serve our area well. We love this community and want to be here for the long term. Ultimately, we wanted to bring a service that positively impacts the people here right in our own backyard.”

Graze Craze will be offering holiday and seasonal boards throughout the year. Right now, they have their popular Game Day Board and a new Wine Pairing Board on the menu. For the upcoming holidays, they’ll be featuring festive boards that include special seasonal items like white chocolate bark and their signature fennelspiced ham.

“My goal is for Graze Craze to become the go-to place,” Sinopoli said. “Whether you’re feeding a crowd or just grabbing lunch for yourself. When people think of charcuterie, I want them to think of Graze Craze. It’s incredibly rewarding knowing that our boards become part of so many special moments in people’s lives, and I feel truly proud to be in this position.”

BREGHAN CREATIONS WHERE CRAFTSMANSHIP MEETS HEART

Abirthday gift has blossomed into a thriving small business that’s bringing personalized creativity to homes across western Massachusetts. For Meghan O’Donnell, owner of Breghan Creations in Southampton, what started as a casual crafting hobby has grown into a deeply fulfilling passion — and a communitysupported enterprise.

“Breghan Creations began as a simple hobby that quickly turned into a true passion,” O’Donnell said. “It all started when my husband bought me a Cricut machine for my birthday and I instantly fell in love with creating custom pieces for family and friends. Over time, my projects grew from paper crafts into more wood-based creations, thanks to the help of my husband, who’s a carpenter. We started experimenting with laser engraving and woodworking, and from there, Breghan Creations really took shape.”

The name “Breghan” is itself a symbol of collaboration—a blend of Meghan and her husband Brian’s names. “It feels fitting, since this business has truly been a shared effort from the start,” she said. “Launching here in Southampton felt natural because it’s home.”

From the homegrown beginnings, Breghan Creations has evolved into a destination for beautifully crafted, custom-made pieces. O’Donnell specializes in laserengraved products ranging from ornaments and nursery signs to wedding décor and personalized gifts.

“What makes my work stand out is the personal touch

behind every item,” she explained. “I love creating pieces that feel meaningful and unique to each customer, something that represents their story, family, or special moment. I think people can tell that everything I make is crafted with care, creativity, and a genuine love for what I do.”

That sense of connection — to both craft and customer — is at the heart of O’Donnell’s creative process. Many of her ideas come directly from those who reach out with special requests.

“A lot of my inspiration comes directly from my customers,” she said. “Many of my products started as custom requests. Someone would message me with an idea, and I’d bring it to life. I love the challenge of taking someone’s vision and turning it into something tangible.”

She also draws inspiration from everyday life, her own family, and other makers.

“Making gifts for my own family, seeing creative ideas from other makers, or even just noticing design trends that spark new ideas — my process is always evolving, and that’s part of what keeps it exciting.”

For O’Donnell, the Southampton community has played a vital role in Breghan Creations’ success, adding the local community has been “amazing” in their support.

“I’ve built a strong base of repeat customers who come back whenever they’re looking for a personalized gift or custom piece. Their word-of-mouth support has really helped my business grow,” she added.

Her involvement with Feel Good Shop Local, a regional network that promotes small businesses, has expanded her reach beyond Southampton. The network helps people reach more of the best products made from the independent merchants and local makers of the area, all helping make it easier to support local businesses while still getting valued items.

“Joining Feel Good Shop Local has opened doors to new opportunities and allowed me to connect with a wider network of customers across neighboring communities. It’s been great to see how supportive people are of small, local businesses.”

Like many small business owners, O’Donnell has faced her share of challenges and learned valuable lessons along the way.

“One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that growth takes time, and patience is key,” she said. “It’s easy to compare yourself to others, but staying focused on your own progress is so important. I’ve also learned to embrace trial and error; not every idea works out the first time, and that’s okay. Every mistake has helped me improve my products and processes.”

Above all, she’s discovered the importance of maintaining balance. “Running a creative business means

learning to manage time, stay organized, and still find joy in the work.”

Despite the challenges, it’s the joy of creation — and the meaning behind each project — that keeps O’Donnell motivated.

“What I love most is knowing that something I create will become a meaningful gift or keepsake for someone else,” she said. “Whether it’s a personalized sign for a new baby’s nursery or a custom ornament for a family’s first Christmas together, being part of those special moments is incredibly rewarding.”

For O’Donnell, Breghan Creations is also a creative balance to her full-time job in social media management. “It allows me to slow down, work with my hands, and express a different side of my creativity. Seeing how much people appreciate and connect with my work keeps me motivated to keep learning and growing.”

As Breghan Creations continues to expand, O’Donnell is excited about new directions for the business — particularly collaborations with other local enterprises.

“Looking ahead, one of my main goals is to grow the business-to-business side of Breghan Creations,” she said. “I’ve started working more with local businesses to create custom branded and promotional products — things like engraved signage, logo keychains, ornaments, and client gifts. It’s been exciting to see how my products can help other businesses elevate their branding and connect with their customers in a more personal way.”

She also hopes to strengthen partnerships within the creative community. “Whether it’s teaming up with other local makers or supplying products for events and shops, I see a lot of opportunity to expand Breghan Creations in ways that support and highlight other small businesses too.”

As her business grows, O’Donnell remains deeply grateful for the people who have supported her journey.

“I just want to say how grateful I am for the support I’ve received from the local community — from customers who’ve shared my work to family and friends who’ve helped me along the way. Breghan Creations started as a small creative hobby, and it’s turned into something so much more. I’m excited to see where it continues to go!”

With her talent for turning simple materials into keepsakes full of heart, Meghan O’Donnell’s Breghan Creations continues to prove that when passion meets purpose — and community — beautiful things happen.

GRINCHMAS AT THE SPRINGFIELD MUSEUMS

Celebrating the beloved characters in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” Dr. Seuss’s classic tale of the true spirit of Christmas, has been a part of the holiday festivities at the Springfield Museums since the Dr. Seuss Museum opened at the Quadrangle in 2017.

But in 2022, the museums took the celebration of all things Grinch to a new level with the opening of the Grinch’s Grotto in the Wood History Museum. Welcome to the season of Grinchmas!

Featuring a re-creation of the Grinch’s stone-lined home on Mt. Crumpet and plenty of Who-ville-themed activities for the whole family, plus appearances and photo ops with the Grinch himself, the museum’s Grinchmas has quickly become a must-visit holiday tradition in Western Massachusetts.

This year, the Grinch’s Grotto experience will be open from Nov. 22 to Jan 11, 2026, during regular museum hours, with the Grinch in residence for visits and photos during the museum’s Holiday Happenings and the Lighting of the Quadrangle celebrations, on Saturdays and Sundays, and during school vacation week in December. There is no additional charge to visit the Grinch’s Grotto; it and the Dr. Seuss Museum are both included in the price of admission to the museums.

“It’s become a new family favorite at the museum,” Larissa Murray, director of education for the Springfield Museums, told Go Local magazine. “This is the fourth year; it’s become so popular we bring it back year after year.”

The original Grotto was a gift to the museums from Seuss Enterprises, but Murray said the museum has been expand-

ing the exhibit area every season.

This year’s Grinch’s Grotto includes a large-scale Who-ville, an opportunity to write a letter to the Grinch and mail it at the Who-ville Post, and numerous interactive Grinch and Who-ville themed games.

“Some of the set pieces are new, there are new photo ops and interactives this year,” Murray shared. “We try to change the activities every year to make the experience fresh for visitors.”

And every year, visitors do seem to revel in the experience, Murray said.

“We do see a lot of people come in festive attire. Sometimes they come dressed as the Grinch or Cindy Lou, especially on the day after Thanksgiving, which is our Holiday Happenings celebration and the lighting of the Quadrangle,” Murray said. “That day, a lot of people come in to take pictures for the holidays, and they have on holiday sweaters and outfits that are Grinch-inspired.”

Photos in front of the giant red sleigh, and with heads poked through the oversized Whoville wreath, are favorites during Holiday Happenings, and the entire time the Grinchmas experience is open, Murray remarked.

When the Grinch is in residence, Murray said museum staff are on hand to assist with taking family photos with visitors’ personal phones or cameras.

Other popular Grinch’s Grotto activities include the photo op station, open even with the Grinch isn’t in residence.

This year’s Holiday Happenings celebration will take place on Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will offer a slew of

activities including visits to the Grinch from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Wood Museum, an opportunity to make Grinch-inspired ornaments from 1-4 p.m. in the Science lab and race your sleigh in the Mt. Crumpet Derby in the Spark Lab from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., both in the Science Museum, plus a chance to make luminaries in the George Walter Vincent Smith Museum from12-4 p.m. and giant bubbles, a roaming railroad and more on the Quadrangle Green, weather permitting.

“In the Spark Lab, you have the opportunity to build your own sleigh and slide it down Mt. Crumpet. Sleighs are made of recycled materials,” Murray said, adding there are a lot of other activities spread throughout the museum.

All the Nov. 28 Holiday Happenings activities are included with museum admission.

The lighting of the Quadrangle, a free event featuring music and festive refreshments, begins at 5 p.m. on Nov. 28. From 5-7 p.m. that evening, visits to the Grinch’s Grotto and the museum’s annual gingerbread exhibit, themed Jurassic Gingerbread for 2025, are free and open to the public.

Those who miss the Holiday Happenings or Lighting of the Quadrangle can still get in the Grinchmas spirit with Grinchmas Saturdays on Dec. 6 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring a free book giveaway while supplies last, meet and greets with Santa from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mammal Hall of the Science Museum, meet and greets with the Grinch from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Grinch’s Grotto in the Wood History Museum, a chance to race in the

Mt. Crumpet Derby from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Spark Lab and a gifting workshop on 11 a.m., to 3 p.m., both on the second floor of the Scinece Museum, and Winter Holiday celebrations from 12 to 4 p.m. in the Discovery Center of the George Walter Vincent Smith Museum.

Photos featured in this story are from Grinchmas 2024. There will be an all new Who-ville Village in 2025.
