Lajitas Golf Resort: Black Jack’s Crossing

by JD Latorre by Tim Cotroneo

You’re aching to play someplace new and Caribbean golf has been on your radar for years. You’ve read that the Turks and Caicos Island of Providenciales hosts one of the most stunning beaches in the world. Does Turks and Caicos also have a golf course to match the beauty, the style, and the island hospitality of legendary Grace Bay Beach?

by David R. Holland

LAJITAS, TX – Dive downward is a theme all day at Black Jack’s Crossing Golf Course -- that’s what happens to your golf ball when you reach the elevated tee box of par-3, 167-yard 13th. PGA Tour Hall of Famer and designer Lanny Wadkins said the word is “wow”.

PGA Tour Stop Turns into Desert Festival

by Terry Ross

The Coachella Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival during the spring season have certainly left their mark on this area known as the Coachella Valley during the spring with their weekends of concerts. But now, the PGA Tour stop is taking on a new identity with a heavier accent on music, great food, wine, and spirits – to go along with watching the best golfers in the world play for millions.

Ocean Course At Hammock Beach Offering StrackaLine Greens Guides SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Ocean Course at Hammock Beach, a highly acclaimed Jack Nicklaus design in Palm Coast, Fla., headlines a quartet of courses recently scanned by StrackaLine that now offer professional greens guides to golfers. The Country Club of Winter Haven (Fla.), The Club at Savannah (Ga.) Harbor, and Onion

Creek Country Club have also joined the StrackaLine family. StrackaLine scans courses for $1,500 and that includes 100 greens guides for resale. The scanning process takes five hours to complete and is unobtrusive to the golfer experience. StrackaLine’s quality and accuracy have led to widespread adoption on the PGA, LPGA and Web.com tours, in addition to their use by more than 300 Division I college teams. The greens maps, which feature easy to read arrows, allow players to view contour and fall lines, in addition to slope percentage, anywhere on the green. Professional usage has helped drive interest in the StrackaLine Greens Guides, and the technology is just as valuable to “regular” amateur golfers hoping to improve their score. For golf course owners and operators, the technology can be used to improve pace of play and help ensure quality course conditions. StrackaLine offers hole location software that allows superintendents to utilize a proprietary algorithm to help set hole locations. StrackaLine will continue to add to its library of golf courses throughout 2018. It takes just eight minutes to scan and capture an entire green and the StrackaLine team can complete an 18-hole course and practice green in five hours without disrupting play. For more information on how to order a greens guide or have a course scanned, go to www.StrackaLine.com.

To See This Spring

1) Florida:

Ranked among the “Top 75 Golf Resorts in North America” by Golf Digest, PGA Golf Club is home to four breathtaking golf courses offering truly unique experiences. Start with the Wanamaker Course, named in honor of Rodman Wanamaker who inspired the birth of the PGA of America 100 years ago. Widely considered as one of the most picturesque layouts in Florida, legendary architect Tom Fazio designed a course that blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings. Fairways routed around wetlands, over gentle hills and through native palmetto and sabal palms make for an unforgettable round of golf, while large bunkers guarding greens provide a riskreward element that’s hard to find anywhere else in the Sunshine State. Then there is the Dye Course, which features some of the most elaborate bunkers east of the Mississippi. Designed by the mastermind himself, Pete Dye, and ranked in Florida’s top 20, it’s as beautiful as it is challenging. Deep pot bunkers, vast coquina waste areas and devilish greens treat guests to a wildly entertaining round of golf. Boredom isn’t in the bouquet for the Dye Course. Named after Samuel Ryder, the namesake and founder of the Ryder Cup, the Ryder Course recently reopened after a renovation. The layout meanders over rolling hills and through majestic pine trees. Several lakes and ponds line fairways and guard greens, requiring golfers to be sharp on tee shots and approaches. But rest easy, large landing areas make it a treat to play for all skill levels. Just off site but just as good, the St. Lucie Trail Golf Club was recently opened to the public following an 18-month revitalization project led by 2016 TurfNet Superintendent of the Year Dick Gray, a protégé of Dye. A true back-to-nature oasis, the charming layout is Florida golf at its purest. Springtime is the best time to visit PGA Golf Club. Not only is it a short drive from the Spring Training home of the New York Mets, stay-and-play rates are reasonable. Three-night and three-round rates start at $691 in February and March, but considerably drop in April. www.pgavillage.com, 800-800-4653

2) Hawaii

Located on Hawaii’s, “Garden Isle” of Kauai the golf courses at Puakea and Wailua are favorites among travelers and locals alike. These standalone daily fee courses are appreciated for their well-regarded layouts, impressive vistas, and great rates. Wailua has hosted three United States Golf Association championships and is recognized as one of the best municipal courses in America, tracing its origin back to the “Golden Age of Golf Course Architecture” (1900-1930). Coconut trees and Pacific Ocean views proliferate at Wailua, with numerous beachside holes providing unobstructed views of the peaceful coastline. Non-residents are privy to one of the best values in golf at just $48 on weekdays and $60 on weekends. Puakea rests at the base of Mount Haupu, the towering head to a mountain range that formed the backdrop of several Jurassic Park scenes. The best vantage point of these Hollywood-worthy views is from the par-3 sixth hole, which drops 160 feet to a jungle-surrounding green. Magestic Puakea was devised by Robin Nelson, a celebrated golf architect who did many designs and re-designs of one-third of Hawaii’s roughly 95 courses. Nearly a decade after Hurricane Iniki stalled construction, Nelson revised the original 10 holes to build the remaining eight. Managed by Billy Casper Golf, the pricing value of Puakea is their 11 a.m. visitor special for just $65, available daily. www.gogolfkauai. com, 808-240-3251

3) Virginia

Located just outside of Richmond, Magnolia Green Golf Club remains one of the top-valued courses in Virginia. The 18-hole course, situated as the centerpiece of the Magnolia Green community, features vast Bermuda-grass fairways with rolling terrain and challenging elevation fluxes. Designed by the Nicklaus Design Team and Tom Clark, Magnolia Green is open year-round and offers challenges and

4) Washington

A convenient drive from Seattle and Tacoma, Salish Cliffs Golf Club rests on the scenic southern tip of the Puget Sound. With emerald green bent grass stretching tee to green, rough borders of pure ryegrass and panoramic valley views, Salish Cliffs is a visual thrill. Privacy abounds with 16 of 18 holes encircled in lush forest. Hole nos. 9 and No. 18 share an expansive 15,000-square-foot double green separated by a sparkling lake and wetland preserve. The course beauty has a lulling effect, while the expert layout and thrilling challenges invigorate the senses. Salish Cliffs was named Golf Digest’s second-best course in Western Washington in 2017. Just 45 minutes from 2015 U.S. Open venue Chambers Bay, traveling golfers should pair these two trophy courses together. While close in geographic proximity, they present completely different playing experiences, residing on opposite ends of the design and terrain spectrums. A round at Salish Cliffs costs almost three times less than just one at Chambers Bay. Hence, many visiting golfers stay at Little Creek

5) West Virginia

Spread across 1,700 acres of Oglebay Park in the scenic foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Wheeling, W.V., Oglebay features two superb layouts at its Speidel Golf Club that are all the golf you’ll ever want. The par-71 Arnold Palmer design is a links-style course that takes advantage of the gorgeous, undulating countryside. Strategically-placed bunkers, well-designed mounding flanking the roomy fairways and excellent sloped greens claim your full attention. It deserves high marks in every category: diversity of holes, scenery, playability and challenge. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the Jones Course was home to the West Virginia LPGA Classic for 11 years. The land on which the course sits transverses the higher ground away from the welcoming clubhouse as it rolls over the hills and dales of a former dairy farm. There’s a delightful “away from the hustle and bustle” ambience as birds frolic playfully throughout the trees and wild turkeys roam the grounds. Don’t miss the Birdie Package that includes: one round on the Arnold Palmer Course, one round on the Robert Trent Jones Course, one-night lodging at Wilson Lodge and a mountaineer buffet breakfast. From March 25 – April 15, the package is an unbeatable $129. After April 15, the price increases to $149. www.oglebaygolf.com, 304-243-4050

ou’re aching to play someplace new and Caribbean golf has been on your radar for years. You’ve read that the Turks and Caicos Island of Providenciales hosts one of the most stunning beaches in the world. Does Turks and Caicos also have a golf course to match the beauty, the style, and the island hospitality of legendary Grace Bay Beach? Provo Golf Course opened in Providenciales in 1992. Ever since this 6700-yard layout made its debut, Provo has developed a loyal following of admirers from around the globe. Nowhere is this international admiration society more evident than when golfers glance up at the vaulted ceiling of Provo’s spacious clubhouse. Golf flags from the world’s most famous courses are on display to remind visitors that Turks and Caicos golf is a melting pot of nationalities, tradition, and newfound friendship.

Here are 5 reasons for making Providenciales your next golf retreat.

paddleboarding, this 38-square mile island is as good as it gets.

Located just an easy three wood from Provo Golf Club’s entrance is Grace Bay Beach. This five mile stretch of pearl white sand embraced by turquoise water is a beachcombers’ dream. If you like the beach, prepare to be awed when experiencing Grace Bay for the first time.

Foodies will discover that Providenciales offers a wealth of eclectic restaurant and beach bar options. Fresh seafood, Italian, Thai, steak, sushi, Teppanyaki, and the island’s trademark conch, offer best in Caribbean cuisine options.

Spectacular oceanfront hotels are a way of life in Providenciales. When Provo first opened for business, sleepy Providenciales had just three hotels on Grace Bay Beach. Today, you’ll find over two dozen hotels from which to choose, as well as a plethora of villas if you desire to get away from it all.

Reasons, Rounds, and Rum You’ve tallied a multitude of reasons for choosing Providenciales as your vacation destination. What can you expect the first time you tee it up at Provo Golf Club? The conditions at Provo Golf Club are stellar and this year’s track includes brand new Platinum Paspalum fairways. Provo’s golf environment features hundreds of palm trees, conch shell tee markers, a handful of pink flamingos, and enough easy access rum to remind you that you’re in the Caribbean. What else can you expect beyond golf? You’ve heard the buzz on how Providenciales extraordinary beach setting is a magnet for attracting the rich and famous. If you quizzed Provo’s longtime Golf Professionals Dave Douglas and Sean Wilson on this subject, you’d receive a sheepish shrug. That’s because these Ontario natives believe that Provo’s unassuming ambiance is why screen stars and professional athletes feel comfortable blending seamlessly with the golfer next door.

Clubhouse New Friends On the back nine you strike up a conversation with a golfer from Great Britain who introduces you to his mates from Australia and New Zealand. These golfers liked Providenciales so much the first time they now call the island home. Their parting comment was, “See you in the clubhouse. “ After a glorious round of Caribbean golf, you head to Provo’s Fairways Bar and Grill clubhouse to rehash your round. You wave at the “mates” you met on the back nine, and acknowledge the array of international golf flags poised from the ceiling. That’s when Provo’s signature easy camaraderie kicks it up a notch. Your foursome hoists a locally brewed Turk’s Head Beer, followed by a Bambarra rum cocktail. That’s when you realize you’re speaking the universal language of golf. When exchanging toasts amongst friends in Provo’s clubhouse, we all wave the same flag. That’s especially true when you’re just a three wood from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

12th Hole at Black Jack’s Crossing

AJITAS, TX

– Dive downward is a theme all day at Black Jack’s Crossing Golf Course – that’s what happens to your golf ball when you reach the elevated tee box of par-3, 167-yard

13th.

PGA Tour Hall of Famer and designer Lanny Wadkins said the word is “wow”. Scan a vista that reaches miles past the Rio Grande River into Mexico, hit pause, linger and recall the rich history. And on most days you can reload a few times. The hole is a blast to play for one, and historically this is a place where Gen. John “Black Jack” Pershing commanded a U.S. Cavalry Post when Pancho Villa and his revolutionaries threatened settlers in far West Texas. “Crossing” comes from Pershing chasing the bandito and his men back across the river. Black Jack never caught Pancho. Lajitas, meaning “little flat rocks” is also a place where Comanches camped out, staging raids into Mexico along the Rio Grande River for

horses and silver. And it became part of the pony path named The Great Comanche War Trail. And now this vast land is home to Texas’ No. 1 public golf course (7,413 yards) and Lajitas Resort & Spa in the massive Big Bend country of far West Texas. This is also home to the rugged Chihuahuan Desert, Chisos Mountains and Big Bend National Park. To say Wadkins designed a winner is oversimplification. This is definitely a crescendo golf experience. You finish one beautiful hole and you climb to the next elevated tee. “There’s no golf course like this in Texas and no land like this in Texas with the incredible Big Bend scenery and great golf challenges,” Wadkins said. Just for grins I picked the back tee of the extreme elevated tee par-5 eighth, 649 yards, and attempted to bomb one 200 feet down to the fairway. With dormant grass scooting as fast as a stimp meter at Augusta I hit one as square as I could. Slight draw – I pushed the button on my GPS and headed downhill. When I rolled up to my ball the screen read 305. Oh, yeah. I love this golf course.

ssing Golf Course Perhaps the most handsome hole, however, is the 14th, which displays the Rio Grande River beyond the green and rolls out 406 yards from yet another elevated tee box.

by David R. Holland

No matter what time of year you come here the golf is entertaining and the resort experience is like visiting another era. A little more history of Lajitas Golf Resort and olden days

For all the beauty, however, the No. 1 handicap hole will slap you upside the head. No. 7, a 444-yard, par 4 has an approach over water that presents itself like a stair-stepping stone river bed with collection area that continues past the hole down into a creek bed cart path heading to the next hole. The green is sloped and slanted from front to back toward the water and if you go over the green a double bogey is the norm. When you start driving to the eighth stop and put your hand in the water – it is a hot spring that was redirected to present the water feature. Wadkins selected paspalum turf, one developed to withstand seaside salt and extreme conditions. At an elevation of 2,200 feet, the temperature is a perfect 70 most off-season days, but for summer you might have plenty of 100-degree days. Don’t worry there’s plenty of water stations and GPS on the carts. A huge driving range waits for those who like to practice along with putting green and short-game workers.

The history doesn’t stop with the old trading post pro shop (with bullet holes in the walls), the next door Longhorn Museum, and it didn’t stop with the old barracks turned into lodging, or a beer-drinking goat named Clay Henry who was once the honorary town mayor. Eighteen-hole golf came here in 2006 when designers Roy Bechtol and Randy Russell of Austin opened The Ambush at Lajitas. It was a fun layout, mainly laid out in the Rio Grande’s flood plain with a novelty par-3 hole where you hit over the river in to Mexico to a funneled hole location (with no retrieval of your golf ball). But disaster stuck in 2008 with a 100-year flood event that destroyed the golf course. Enter Wadkins and a new history emerged. Lajitas Golf Resort: Away from the golf course If you are the kind of traveler who likes to venture into the boondocks this is the resort for you. There’s 27,000 acres of solitude, natural beauty, rugged desert and starry skies.

Desert Festival

by TERRY ROSS

I

n addition to being a golf destination, the Palm Springs area of Southern California has taken on a reputation over the later years as a mecca for festivals and concerts. The Coachella Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival during the spring season have certainly left their mark on this area known as the Coachella Valley during the spring with their weekends of concerts. But now, the PGA Tour stop in January that has been around since 1960, is taking on a new identity with a heavier accent on music, great food, wine, and spirits – to go along with watching the best golfers in the world play for millions. Under the direction of Executive Director Jeff Sanders and his colleagues at Lagardère Sports, who were given the task of remaking the venerable event by its founding charity last fall, the Career Builder Challenge has added loads of hospitality opportunities for fans and two days of first-rate concerts immediately following play on Friday and Saturday of tournament week. As the first PGA Tour event of the year played in the continental United States, the Career Builder Challenge has a history of getting the golfing year off to a start in this section of the world—and it is now setting the table for the concert season in this resort area that has become famous for music and festivals. This past January the Career Builder kicked off its Concert Series with performances by rock bands Huey Lewis and the News and the Goo Goo Dolls on consecutive days on the driving range on the home course of the Career Builder— the PGA West Stadium Course in La Quinta—as thousands of enthusiastic fans got a dose of the world’s best golfers and great music at one stop. Two bands that have sold more than 32 million albums combined under sunny skies and into the evening as professional golf turned into a festival for both locals and vacationers. And, of course, on Sunday a champion was crowned as Jon Rahm, the second-ranked player in the world—beat Andrew Landry in a fourhole playoff after they both finished 72 holes at 22-under par. Not a bad way to end a week of great golf and music.

SWEETSTUFF Live View Golf Digital Swing Mirror

O

ne of the more unique and useful tools to hit the market recently to improve one’s golf game very quickly is not a new club or golf ball. It is one of the smallest digital cameras on the market today and its accompanying software that can make practice sessions more productive and valuable than ever before. The Live View Golf Digital Swing Mirror (DSM™) utilizes two old concepts with the latest technology to give players something that they can use inside, on the driving range or even on a trip to help improve their swing and keep all aspects of it in synch. First of all, mirrors have been used by teachers and golf students for many years, as have video cameras. But mirrors are bulky and fragile, certainly don’t record anything by themselves and aren’t something you are going to lug around in a golf bag. Video is available on your smartphone these days, but it has its limitations and certainly doesn’t match what the Live View Golf software can do. The Live View camera is less than 4” high, 2½” wide and ¾” deep and comes in a handy

carrying case that easily fits in a walking golf bag—or a pocket, while the optional LivPod flexible tripod stand for the camera is equally small but can be used to mount the camera on your golf bag, a door handle or even on top of a chair. The camera also has a bracket so that it can be mounted on an alignment stake punched in the ground, if desired. The optional wide-angle lens attachment opens even more possibilities, especially when practicing indoors and space is at a premium. But for all the innovative design of the camera—the best part of Live View is the App--and what it can show you about your swing. The camera can be paired with an iPhone or Android smartphone— or even better yet, an iPad or Kindle for a larger viewing surface. With these in place, you can practice part of your swing while watching yourself (just like in a mirror) from any angle, record your swings (and even email them to an instructor) and watch your swing frame-by-frame with this excellent proprietary software. According to Patrick Parrish, co-founder of Live View Golf and 30-year teaching veteran, the reason most golfers fail to break 100,

28 Golf Vacations • March 2018

90, or 80 has nothing to do with a lack of knowledge. Instead, what most golfers lack is awareness of their own movements. Because much of the golf swing happens behind a player’s back, it is almost impossible to know if the objective of making a particular swing is being met. In order to change a player’s swing, it is imperative to monitor each movement to ensure that the intended swing matches the actual swing. James Sieckmann, a Golf Magazine top 100/ Golf Digest Top 50 Instructor and author of several golf instruction books, notes that “The fundamental problem in golf is the difference between what a player feels and what is real...” And one quick view with this program can show what needs to be corrected very quickly. To bridge the gap between feel and real, a key learning tool for many elite players is the mirror. Because the feedback in a mirror is instantaneous, players can verify the real club position against their internal swing feel and make very fine distinctions as to what the intended swing position really feels like. This “real” feeling is what enables elite players to strike a ball correctly and consistently in actual play. The app also provides additional benefits by transferring swing analysis tools back into the live video feed, thereby creating templates that make learning a new swing as simple as tracing lines and matching body positions. Live View Golf is a very portable solution to greatly accelerate swing changes by increasing body awareness during the swing. The app has Live Swing Guides that allow the player to draw plane lines or stationary posts that can be used in the live feed as precise reference for the intended swing. These swing guides can act as templates, making the learning process as simple as following and matching the lines. Live View can help players stay in their posture since the viewing device places the view directly behind the strike zone so that the player does not loose posture to look back into a mirror. Because the camera can show the swing from any angle, it gives the player awareness over their movements from any angle while staying in posture. “Live View Golf is a great tool for students to associate a feel with what they see and are working on with their coach,” said Dave Phillips, one of the founders of the Titleist Performance Institute and a Top 100 Teacher for Golf Magazine. Shot Scope

olf software that tracks shots is among the newest technologies to help player performance, and the introduction of the Shot Scope V2 program takes this to a new level with its second-generation golf wearable that tracks everything—shots, club selection and distance for each club without having to use a cell phone with it or punching a button on each shot. While most of the software on the market demands the use of a cell phone during the round, the V2 can be used with only the GPS watch as the tracking device. The nice thing about Shot Scope is that there is an app to use on the cell phone if desired, but with some players not wanting to use them during the round (or a club may not allow them)—this device and its software can be used perfectly with only the watch—and then uploading all of the data onto a computer, phone or tablet after the round to study and show every shot on an overhead photo course map with all of the hazards, greens and tees clearly shown. The only action required

by the user is to tap the watch after each hole out. Shot Scope’s in-house engineers have developed a product that meets the needs of the modern golfer while retaining the company’s trademark automatic club recognition technology and detailed performance statistics using a chip that easily plugs into the butt of every club. The V2 has three modes to suit the golfer’s playing requirements, GPS; PRO; and GPS+TRACK; each mode has been designed for ultimate flexibility. In both GPS and GPS+TRACK modes, the LCD screen displays distances to the front, middle and back of the green from the golfer’s real-time position using SMART GPS. Performance Tracking is activated in both PRO and GPS+TRACK modes. The watch works in the background to collect over 100 Tour-level statistics, broken down into five areas: clubs, tee shots, approaches, short game and putting. The watch has a battery life of 8 hours. Performance statistics of this caliber have previously only been available to Tour players. Graphs, statistical analysis and any information on your game is available on the program dashboard that manages all the golfer data. The V2 uses Shot Scope’s proprietary course mapping data which is compiled, and quality checked by a team of elite golfers, and the company notes that every course in the world is available to download into the watch. Shot Scope Technologies was founded in 2014 by CEO David Hunter. Hunter, a former electronics design engineer and secondary school teacher, invented the product in his house. Now a team of 17 based in Edinburg. The company has designed, engineered and manufactured the product in Scotland, bringing golf technology to The Home of Golf. Five Reasons to Tee Off in Gulf Shores

W

hat better way to begin a vacation than by planning a golf vacation to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Every year I tell myself I will play more golf – and the Alabama Gulf Coast tops my list. You may be wondering what makes Gulf Shores so special and why it is any different from other golf destinations. Let’s take a look at five things that set Gulf Shores golf apart.

Gorgeous Golf Courses Whether you are heading over to the worldclass golf resort at Kiva Dunes or the 27-hole spectacular complex at The Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club, you can be assured Gulf Shores is home to myriad golf links unlike anywhere else we have experienced. Not only are these high-quality courses that will test every level of golfer, they are affordable, in pristine condition and, most importantly, they will inspire you to keep wanting to come back to play more. Both Kiva Dunes and Peninsula epitomize the beauty along the Gulf Coast. For those of you who want to challenge yourself even further, head over to Craft Farms to experience courses designed by the one and only Arnold Palmer. It’s fair to say that if “The King” approved of the Alabama Gulf Coast for avid golfers, this is a good enough reason on its own to justify a visit! Great Weather All Year The Alabama Gulf Coast is a great year-round golfing destination. With a minimum average

temperature in the mid-50s during the winter, you can enjoy the immaculate golf courses throughout the year. Grab your sweater and hit the links to start your golfing season in Gulf Shores. Improve Your Golfing Skills Are you ready to start fine-tuning your swing? Or perhaps you are just starting out and want to hit the links with some top tips? Head over to the pro shops at any of the golf courses in Gulf Shores and ask about scheduling an individual lesson – or perhaps a group lesson if you are enjoying an ultimate mancation! Prefer to remain self-taught? For as low as $15, you can start improving your technique and begin mastering the very best courses in Gulf Shores. Kiva Dunes and Peninsula Golf Club are home to great practice areas with a driving range, chipping green and perfect putting surface to help you succeed. It’s More Than Just Golf The beauty of visiting the Alabama Gulf Coast is that it’s more than just about the golfing experience. Yes, you could easily spend your whole golfing trip hitting the best courses along this stretch of coast, but what about all the other attractions and experiences you will want to enjoy? When you’re ready to relax on the beach, the 32 miles of pristine white sands will always be a welcome option.

After a long day on the course, head over to Big Beach Brewing Company to sample a

flight of the very best craft brews on the Gulf Coast. When you hear that all the beers on tap are made in-house and the company is owned by a Gulf Coast family, you know you are visiting a place that is passionate about producing quality brews. If you are visiting on the weekend, you’ll enjoy the bonus of relaxing to live music. Family Golfing Getaway Long gone are the days when golf was just for a select group of individuals. Now the whole family can enjoy the sport. Gulf Shores certainly embraces this and encourages everyone to pick up their clubs and hit the links. Even if golf isn’t really your thing, there is a new sport becoming increasingly popular: FootGolf. A combination of soccer and golf, this is a great way for everyone to get on the golf course. Gulf Shores is the ultimate paradise for the golfers in your life. I hope you are now convinced that this is the best spot for your next golfing getaway. I know I am, and I cannot wait to start my golf season along the Gulf Coast this year! Chris and Heather Boothman are the co-founders and editors of A Brit and A Southerner, a travel blog devoted to sharing their experiences around the world. Focused on “exploring the world one weekend at a time,” Chris and Heather are part-time travelers hoping to inspire others to realize their dreams even with a 8-5 job.
