Sometimes a strange new dryness is the first symptom women get that says: This is truly it – MENOPAUSE. You don’t feel dry because you aren’t interested in intercourse; you notice a dryness all the time that you can feel, sometimes even just walking.

Infection, irritation, and discomfort can come from this sudden dryness. To ward them off, try the following:

Wear cotton underwear and cotton crotch nylons. They allow more air to circulate.

Use KY Jelly, Astroglide or Replens, as often as you have to. They can make you feel more comfortable, even when intercourse isn’t the primary motivation.

Vitamin E cream and/or Vitamin E 100-600IU can be helpful for more lubrication. Omega 3 Fatty Acids (fish oils) are a remedy that some women claim helps retain all over hydration.

Exercise increases circulation to the pelvic area. So does regular intercourse. Don’t avoid intercourse and think you’ll come back to it later. The vaginal wall stays healthier in women who remain sexually active. Sexual arousal produces some natural lubrication, and sexual activity increases blood flow to the area, which helps keep the vaginal tissues supple.

Antihistamines, which dry your running nose, can dry your whole body, including your vagina, so be aware of this if you use them regularly. Deodorant soaps, douches and hygiene sprays can also be drying.

Drink enough water to keep your body hydrated. Six glasses a day is a minimum! This is healthy for every part of your body.

Dryness, irritation and pain during intercourse affect roughly 50 percent of women in menopause. While the above will be helpful for dryness, there are other parts of your body that will be affected by menopause. For instance, there is vaginal atrophy, which is a thinning, and inflammation of the vaginal walls that may occur when your body has less estrogen. It can also lead to urinary symptoms.
