PHOTO EXHIBITION CELEBRATES LOCAL VOLUNTEERS
To celebrate National Volunteer Week 2025, Golden Plains Shire Council has been recognising local volunteer groups and individuals with daily social media posts. Council also launched the 2025 Volunteers in Action Photographic Exhibition.
The photographs in the Volunteers in Action Exhibition showcase Golden Plains Shire volunteers contributing to their local communities and were captured by Golden Plains Youth volunteers.
The Volunteers in Action Exhibition will be on display at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre before moving to the Golden Plains Civic Centre in Bannockburn and The Well in Smythesdale later in the year.
National Volunteer Week 2025 runs from 19 to 25 May and celebrates the power of volunteering to bring people together with the theme ‘Connecting Communities’. Let’s acknowledge the spirit of connection and the incredible impact volunteers have in building inclusive and thriving communities.
Victorian Electoral Commission Countback
Following the resignation of Cr Brett Cunningham, the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) will hold a countback to fill the Extraordinary Vacancy for Golden Plains Shire Council on Wed 11 June at 10am.
The VEC will hold a countback of all formal votes from the 2024 Golden Plains Shire Council election to fill the vacancy. Votes will be redistributed to candidates who were unsuccessful in 2024 but are still eligible to be elected.
The countback is based on the proportional representation method of counting, which means candidates must achieve a proportion of votes known as a quota. Candidates and other interested parties can watch the countback online. A link to join will be available from 9:30 am on Wednesday 11 June at vec.vic.gov.au
The result will be announced through a media release and published on the VEC website.
