GOLDEN HEART RANCH is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that works toward the establishment of an exceptional, fulfilling and holistic lifestyle community for special needs young adults. We are a pioneer organization composed of parents, professionals, and activists on a grassroots crusade against the notion that special needs young adults must either remain at home or enter unfulfilling group homes upon leaving school. Currently there are crisis-level shortages of acceptable housing for special needs young adults. What housing exists is often inadequate and offers little in the way of quality of life. What makes this problem so central to our community is that these disorders strike indiscriminately, affect families of all walks of life, and leave special needs kids unable to fight for their futures. The California Department of Developmental Services estimates that there are 300,000 special needs kids in our state. After exiting the school system, 80% are unable to leave home. This leaves them in the lifelong care of aging parents, who are often unable to provide for special needs dependents indefinitely. Currently, parents, families, and communities have almost nowhere to turn once they are unable to take care of special needs young adults with existing resources. Golden Heart Race, our most important annual fundraiser, will be held on September 29th, 2013. It combines a race/scavenger hunt with an evening of dinner and live music. We are looking for event sponsors to help. Last year’s event was very successful—we raised over $125,000—and we are counting on our community partners for another successful year in 2013. We urge you to do what you can to help Golden Heart Ranch build a future worthy of our special needs kids and we encourage you to step up to the plate for children who are unable to fight for themselves. Our outreach community includes thousands of potential customers and we provide a high level of publicity and exposure for our local corporate and small business partners. Currently there are 300,000 children in California with special needs and an uncertain future. 80% of such children never leave the care of their aging parents. What will happen to these children as they become adults? Our work is urgent and rapidly expanding to meet the needs of California’s most vulnerable residents. Golden Heart Ranch has spent the last years building our twofold approach to solving California’s special needs housing crisis: laying a strong foundation for our own growth and encouraging others to adopt our community living model. These are exciting times for Golden Heart Ranch. Every dollar donated establishes the foundation for a better future for California's special needs children. Because of your generosity, families need not live in fear of a day then their children will go without the care they deserve. The Golden Heart Race is an exciting urban scavenger hunt through the heart of Redondo Beach. At registration each team of 4-‐6 people, receives their 1st clue and then the fun begins, following one clue to get to the next. Be prepared to do a series of obstacles, puzzles and clues. It's great FUN and a unique experience. Be sure to bring a digital camera!
After the "race" Golden Heart Ranch® will host a Finish Line Party, which will be at the beautiful Bay Side Ballroom at the Portofino Hotel. There will have a band, raffle, silent auction, drinks and a delicious dinner. When? Sunday September 29th, 2013 Check in Noon – 12:45pm. Race begins promptly at 1:00pm Where? Bayside at the beautiful Portofino Hotel and Marina 260 Portofino Way, Redondo Beach, CA 90277 Join us for a party at the finish line!
