On the 8th of May, Golborne High School proudly celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a vibrant, street party-style celebration. The History Department generously provided an array of cakes and sweet treats, adding to the festive atmosphere, while the canteen served a traditional hearty cottage pie followed by a delightful selection of beautifully prepared cakes and scones, courtesy of ourtalentedkitchenteam.
The school was awash with the red, white, and blue of the British flag, creating a patriotic backdrop as pupils also took time to reflect on the lasting significance of VE Day. Through learning and remembrance, they gained a deeper appreciation for this pivotal moment in history and the freedoms we enjoytoday.

In addition to this remarkable achievement, Olivia has also been celebrating with her dance team, KAM Performing Arts Academy, after a fantastic performance at the 2025 National Performing Arts Alliance Troupe Festival at Middleton Arena in Manchester The team competed in five sections, taking home 1st place, two 2nd places, and a 3rd place, and even made it to the grand final! Big congratulations to Year 7 student Olivia, who recently auditioned for 'The Associates' dance training program and was thrilled to earn one of just 30 spots!
Well done to Mason in Year 10, who plays for Warrington Rylands U16's Ultras football club. Last week they secured the Division 3 league title with a dramatic 2-2 draw with Ashton. Mason plays as a defender, a position he has played since he was five years old, originally with Earlestown before his transfer to Warrington Rylands three years ago. He is now looking forward to joining the U17's next season.
Congratulations to our Year 9 boys Sam, Josh, Ivan, Sam, Noah, Daniel, Fin, Tristan, and Harry who proudly represent Leigh United Phoenix in football.
The team has recently been crowned Bolton and Bury League Champions, an outstanding achievement after winning 15 out of 16 matches this season. Well done, a fantastic accomplishment!

In January we honoured the remarkable accomplishments of our pupils in school by presenting certificates and badges to those who have earned 50, 100, 150, 200, and an outstanding 250 achievement points. These points are a testament to pupil excellence, consistency, and willingness to exceed our school's expectations. Awards are also given for top achievers, awarded for Highest number of achievement points, Zero behaviour points and 100% attendance and punctuality.

On January 29th, students in Years 8–10 participated in the Intermediate Maths Challenge, a 60-minute, 25-question multiple-choice competition aimed at fostering mathematical reasoning, precision, and fluency The challenge featured engaging problems that challenge even the most experienced participants We are delighted to announce that 50 students from Golborne High earned certificates for their impressive performances. A special congratulations goes to Karson, Hitomi, and Aevin, who each earned a gold certificate and were invited to the next round which was held in March and saw Karson and Hitomi going on to earn silver and bronze certificates respectively
We are delighted to share the outstanding results from this year's UKMT Junior Maths Challenge – and what a performance it has been! Out of 116 students who took part, an impressive 75 have earned certificates. This is a tremendous achievement and a real testament to the hard work and mathematical ability of our students 11 Gold, 26 Silver, 38 Bronze Even more excitingly, five pupils were invited to take part in the next round of the competition in June

Miss Rogerson's Extra-Curricular Dance Club is busy rehearsing and fine-tuning their routine in preparation for the upcoming Creative Arts Evening The club meets every Thursday after school in the Arts Theatre and is open to students in Years 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Miss Clegg and Mr Barker helped to support Sianna, Isla, Izzy, Theo, Laukik, Max, and Connor of Y10 to gain a place on the Cambridge University Future Ready programme where pupils successfully attended mentoring sessions designed to push their study skills and explore what it's like to think and write like a university student.
Our pupils created their own university style essay on this year's topic, 'Is knowledge dangerous?' while developing their critical thinking and essay-writing skills, preparing them for GCSEs and university All pupils successfully submitted university level quality responses, with Max placing in the top 5 of the national cohort of all pupils who gained a place!
