Shelbourne Park is the perfect stage for this spectacle. Our redeveloped flagship stadium has already earned national recognition, winning two honours at the 2025 Irish Construction Excellence Awards, which is a testament to the dedication and vision of everyone involved in bringing this venue to life.

This competition has a proud history stretching back to 1928 at Harold’s Cross. It became the official National Derby in 1932, and since 1970 Shelbourne Park has been its permanent home. Legendary champions such as Spanish Battleship, who won three times, have left their mark here, and each year we add another chapter to that story.

Last year, Bockos Diamond, trained by Tipperary’s Graham Holland, broke the track record on the way to victory. This made Graham only the third trainer in nearly a century to win four Irish Greyhound Derbies, a truly remarkable achievement.

I wish to thank owners and trainers for their assistance in facilitating the moving of the Derby to November to enable these impor tant works to be completed. I also wish to thank our IRGT Ambassadors Brenda Powderly and Paul Smith and their canine companions Charlie and Jimmy for ensuring all patrons receive a warm welcome to the stadium this evening.

Looking ahead, we are excited for the Winter Festival here at Shelbourne Park on 21st and 22nd November, which will cap off a fantastic year for Irish greyhound racing.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to the owners, trainers, breeders, and supporters who make our sport possible, to the dedicated staff and officials of Shelbourne Park for hosting this world-class event, and to John Boyle and BOYLE Sports for their generous sponsorship.

On behalf of the Board, I wish to ex tend Rásaíocht Con Éireann’s gratitude to our sponsor BoyleSpor ts whose suppor t has ensured the ongoing racing event an attrac tive proposition for trainers and owners right across the countr y

It’s been a particularly exciting Derby for me with my own BoyleSports Bob making the final, but we’ve seen some very impressive action over the last few weeks from some top-class dogs, not least the performances of Graham Holland’s Bockos Diamond. He heads the betting by some distance and after an historic, record-breaking win three weeks ago, matched again last week, it’s easy to see why.

You may have noticed BOYLE Sports sporting a new look this year as well, as our modernised branding provides a fresh backdrop to the most anticipated event in the Irish greyhound calendar.

This is BOYLE Sports’ twelfth year sponsoring this prestigious competition and as Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker, we are honoured to continue supporting Irish greyhound racing and watch the Derby go from strength to strength each year.

However, if greyhound racing has taught me anything over the years, it’s that you need a bit of luck on the night too. I look forward very much to seeing which one of this year’s six finalists will be victorious and be added to an illustrious list of Derby winners.

Last year’s performance from Bockos Diamond will live long in the memory and while he won’t be defending his title tonight, once more we have been witness to some exhilarating action in the weeks leading up to the final and we look forward to crowning another worthy winner, who will join an illustrious list of champions in the roll of honour.

I’d like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the management and staff of Shelbourne Park, who work tirelessly to make this event a success. Shelbourne Park is now a first-class venue and with twelve races on the card this evening, I look forward to an excellent night of racing.

To the six finalists and their connections – it’s an extraordinary achievement to make it this far and I wish you all the very best of luck. May the best dog win!

Cheap Sandwiches came up one short last year and while he has been strongly supported to go one better this time, six top class competitors have reached the decider and I send congratulations to the connections of every one of them. Whatever the result, it’s a stunning achievement to make it this far and I wish you all the very best of luck as we countdown to the race of the year. I cannot wait to see who comes out as top dog!

Finally, I would like to thank you all for your continued support and valued custom. It is each and every one of you that makes this such a wonderful sport to be involved in. Enjoy the evening.

GRAHAM AIMING TO CREATE HISTORY ON 5 WINS

Graham Holland has long been the dominant trainer in Irish greyhound racing and will have a chance to claim perhaps the greatest record of his career this evening when sending out the red-hot favourite Cheap Sandwiches in the Derby decider.

Graham aiming to join the greats on 4 wins Graham Holland has been the trainer to follow in Irish greyhound racing for many years and will have another chance to rewrite the record books this evening when sending out Cheap Sandwiches and Bockos Diamond in the Derby decider.

Graham currently sits on four Irish Derby wins but could create history if his 2024 Derby runner-up does this business this evening. His first Derby success came in 2016 with Rural Hawaii, three years later it was the turn of Lenson Bocko in 2019 with Newinn Taylor obliging the following year in 2020.

decider with sponsors Boylesports and, were she to win, it would be something of a shock. It would also be an overdue winner for trap four. You have to go all the way back to 2011 to find the last winner to wear the black jacket. On that occasion, it was Razldazl George that came out on top for Dolores Ruth.

champion Susie Sapphire. Just four years on, Glengar Silent will tonight bid to eclipse both. You see Glengar Silent was born on November 18th, 2023, meaning he will be 679 days old as you read these words. Should he come home in front, he would take over the mantle as the youngest Derby champion of all time.

LADIES DOING THEMSELVES PROUD

And then of course, there was Bockos Diamond last year, allowing Graham to join such greats as Tom Lynch and Gay McKenna on four wins.

Graham currently sits on three Irish Derby wins but could create history if either of his finalists, who are the top two in the betting, were to come home in front. His first Derby success came in 2016 with Rural Hawaii providing him with his greatest night in the sport, while three years later it was the turn of Lenson Bocko in 2019. He completed his hat trick the following year with Newinn Taylor.

Lynch trained the great Spanish Battleship to three Derby wins in the 1950s before claiming the last of his four wins in 1967 with Russian Gun, while McKenna’s final success came just over 50 years ago with Catsrock Daisy winning the 1972 decider. His other winners were Ballyowen Chief in 1965, Always Proud in 1966 and Monalee Pride in 1970.

And so, if Graham Holland were to win this evening, he would become the first trainer to win five Derby titles. Now that would be something very special.

If Cheap Sandwiches or Bockos Diamond win this evening, he will join two of the true greats of greyhound racing, Tom Lynch and Gay McKenna, on four wins.

UK’S HEIRESS FOLLOWING IN SOME FAMOUS FOOTSTEPS

Incidentally, the 1954 trophy won by Spanish Battleship and the 1972 trophy won by Catsrock Daisy are on show in the Shelbourne Park Museum on the ground floor.

Mark Wallis and those connected to Proper Heiress must be applauded for taking a chance to challenge for Derby honours. The record of UK trained runners hasn’t been spectacular in recent years but in getting to the final he has done something none of his compatriots have managed since 2008.

Will Diamond be the hottest favourite of all time?

Sponsors Boylesports have introduced Bockos Diamond their 3-10 favourite for tonight’s Derby decider. If he were to be returned at that price, he would be the hottest favourite in the long history of the blue riband. Indeed, there is a suspicion he will go to traps an even shorter price.

On that occasion Ballymac Ruso, for Matt Dartnell, would finish third to Shelbourne Aston. A year earlier, Groovy Stan would represent Malcolm Daniels in the decider. In fact, in the early years of this century, British trained finalists were common place.

The legendary Westmead Hawk would finish fifth to He Said So in 2005, La Fontaine fourth to Climate Control in 2003, while Tinys Bud and Droopys Vieri would finish behind Cool Performance in one of the greatest Derby finals of all time in 2001. Rapid Ranger got the century off to a flying start for the UK, finishing a good second to Judicial Pride in 2000.

But what was the hottest favourite before tonight? Well, a name that is always mentioned in the conversation of the all-time greats is Spanish Battleship, the three-time Derby winner. He claimed his first Derby crown at Harold’s Cross in 1953 and his last in 1955 at the same venue.

But when was the last time a runner from across the Irish Sea captured our blue riband? You have to go all the way back to 1997 and Toms The Best. The Nicky Savva trained star would go on to become the only greyhound in history to complete the Irish/ English double when coming home clear at Wimbledon the following June. For the record the David Geggus trained Sole Aim in 1971 and John Bassett handled Yellow Printer were the only other UK trained winners of the Irish Derby. Proper Heiress really is aiming to create a bit of history.

His middle victory came here at Shelbourne Park, however, and on that night, the Tom Lynch trained superstar was sent to traps the 4-11 favourite. The extra weight of long odds-on favouritism didn’t concern him and he ran out a comfortable three length winner over Dignity in 29.64.

CAN SILENT BECOME THE YOUNGEST EVER CHAMPION?

Will Bockos Diamond also make light work of his task and emerge the shortest priced Derby winner of all time? The odds suggest he will.

Can A Lucky Julie end drought for trap four?

Tina Marina raced to a wonderful success in the 1996 Derby, becoming the youngest greyhound to do so. At 684 days old she was a full three days younger than 2021

A Lucky Julie is ranked as one of the two outsiders for tonight’s Derby

In contrast, the orange jacket of trap five has been the most prolific. Fans of Boylesports Bob will be glad to hear that trap five has won nine Derby finals since the turn of the century. Coincidentally, prior to the 2022 Derby winner Born Warrior, the previous trap five winner came in 2019 when Lenson Bocko raced to victory. He happened to be partly owned by Graham Box, Bev Lochead and Austin Whelan, who also happen to own the hot favourite tonight, Bockos Diamond. He lines out in six and is aiming to become the first winner to wear the stripes since Newinn Taylor in 2020. He too was trained by Graham Holland.

The last female winner of the Derby was the exceptional Susie Sapphire in 2021. Second to her on that night was another flying lady, Singalong Sally, making it the first time bitches were first and second in the Derby.

Incidentally, one of the main fancies for tonight’s Derby decider is Glengar Silent who is actually a son of Singalong Susie. But it’s up to Magical Mag and Barefoot On Song to fly the flag for the fairer sex this evening. Prior to Susie Sapphire, the previous bitch to win the Derby was Spring Time in 1999. Remarkably, Ger Watson’s brilliant bitch was the third female to win Derby in the 90’s. The others being The Other Toss in 1990 and Tina Marina in 1996.

Bob and News aiming to end Derby hoodoo?

So many truly exceptional greyhounds have won the Derby through the years. Many have gone on to have successful stud careers but not since 1969 has a Derby winner sired a Derby champion.

For those wondering, the nine bitches to have tasted Derby success are Monalogue in 1933, Muinessa (1937), Brave Damsel (1941), Catsrock Daisy (1972), Penny County (1979), The Other Toss (1990), Tina Marina (1996), Spring Time (1999) and 2021 winner Susie Sapphire.

SILENT HOPING TO END DROUGHT FOR TRAP FOUR

The sire in question was Always Proud. One of four Derby winners for Gay McKenna, he took the greatest prize in 1966. Just three years later, he was sire of the 1969 Derby champion, the Ger McKenna trained Own Pride.

Incredibly, the double was only ever achieved twice. The Billy Quinn trained Tanist captured the 1940 Derby before siring Daring Flash to win the 1947 Derby. Tanist was one of the foundation sires of modern greyhound racing.

Coincidentally, both Own Pride and Daring Flash claimed their Derby victories at Harold’s Cross, while their respective sires did so at Shelbourne Park. It means that 2017 champion Good News is bidding to become the first Derby winner to sire a Derby winner at Shelbourne Park. He is represented by his son Boylesports Bob in tonight’s final.

Aside from bidding to become the youngest Derby winner of all time, Glengar Silent is also hoping to end a trap our drought in Derby deciders. You have to go all the way back to 2011 to find the last time the black jacketed runner would come home in front. On that occasion, it was Razldazl George that emerged on top for Dolores Ruth. In contrast, the orange jacket of trap five has been the most prolific. Fans of Cheap Sandwiches will be glad to hear that trap five has won nine Derby finals since the turn of the century. Coincidentally, prior to the 2022 Derby winner Born Warrior, the previous trap five winner came in 2019 when Lenson Bocko raced to victory. He happened to be partly owned by Graham Box, Bev Lochead and Austin Whelan, who were also lucky enough to own last year’s champion Bockos Diamond. He wore the stripes of six and was the first winner to wear the stripes since Newinn Taylor in 2020. He too was trained by Graham Holland.

A new Derby winning sire will emerge

CAN SANDWICHES EMULATE HAWAII?

Whatever the result, there will be a new Derby winning sire this evening. None of the sires on show have thrown a Derby winner before, although Droopys Sydney, who has two finalists, is amongst the best and most prolific sires of all time.

Back in 2016 Rural Hawaii would hand Graham Holland a first Derby success. He has since won two more but Cheap Sandwiches tonight has the opportunity to emulate the 2016 champion. You see, the year that Rural Hawaii came out on top, he happened to win Heat 1 of round 1, meaning he won the first and last race of that year’s classic.

There is nothing he hasn’t achieved with the exception of siring a Derby champion. He passed on at a great age in August of this year but his legacy continues to live on. If either Callaway Knegare or Singalong Dolly were to win tonight’s decider, it would complete a full set for one of the truly great sires.

You guessed it. Cheap Sandwiches also won the opening heat of this year’s Derby and is a red-hot favourite to win the final contest of the classic. It would be quite a way to bookend the Derby.

The other sires on show include Burgess Bucks, Ballymac Bolger, Good News and Dorotas Wildcat and each of the quartet have also made a big impact in their time at stud.

BoyleSpor ts Greyhound Derby Final 2025 WELCOME

It was more than obvious from the outset that this year’s Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby was packed with exceptionally talented greyhounds, including litter brothers March On Freddie and the hottest ante-post favourite in recent history, Bockos Diamond.

Both were on fire in the opening round. UK raider March On Freddie was majestic as he dominated in a 29.19 return, while Bockos Diamond gave warning to his rivals that he was going to be a real force through the classic, winning with a flawless display in 29.23.

The Derby got off to a flying start with 2024 runner-up Cheap Sandwiches taking the opening heat of classic and setting the tone. His conqueror of last December Bockos Diamond was also expected to make a successful start to his title defence in Heat 5 but ran into a rampant Epic Ace. The latter would produce a stunning run to post a rapid 29.38, seeing off Bockos Diamond by a length although the champion ran well enough in defeat to suggest he was ready for the potential tests ahead.

Jennifer O’Donnell, who was seeking a third Derby win in a row, sent out Scooby Pacemaker and Seven Beach to impress.

I wish to warmly welcome ever yone to Shelbourne Park – the home of Ireland’s richest greyhound event and the historic hear tbeat of Irish

Scooby Pacemaker doesn’t often lead around the turn so, when he did, it came as no surprise that he clocked a rapid 29.16. Seven Beach displayed all his many qualities in a 29.37 victory.

Bockos Diamond did everything right when emerging a facile winner in 29.40. Sadly, it would be his final appearance in the Derby as he picked up a knock in a home gallop just days later.

The BoyleSpor ts Irish Greyhound Derby is the most prestigious greyhound racing competition in the countr y and is considered one of the showpiece events in the international greyhound calendar.

After a scare in the opening round, Cheap Sandwiches was pretty much foot-perfect as he ran out a ready 29.20 scorer.

I am delighted to welcome back Virgin Media Television to Shelbourne Park Ivan Yates and his team of his presenters continue to provide an impor tant national platform for our spor t to grow and prosper

Graham Holland, Paul Hennessy and Pat Guilfoyle had more than one winner with the first named sending out a four-timer. Holland’s other winners included Bombay Pat, who posted 29.34, while Untold Dollar and Clona Duke also impressed.

On behalf of the Board, I wish to ex tend Rásaíocht Con Éireann’s gratitude to our sponsor BoyleSpor ts whose suppor t has ensured the ongoing racing event an attrac tive proposition for trainers and owners right across the countr y

Paul Hennessy had a hat trick over the two nights, although the standout was Boylesports Bob, who posted 29.25, showing all his power in the process. Jaytee Craze and Dynamic Force also won well for Hennessy.

There was also a big return to form from English Derby champion De Lahdedah. Liam Dowling’s star was at his very sharpest at trap rise and emerged an easy winner in 29.30.

On the same night, Magical Mag lowered the colours of De Lahdedah to enter the Derby picture. Flashing from boxes, she would hold on to win in 29.42, while Cheap Sandwiches would bring the curtain down on the Friday action with a 29.49 success.

Greyhound racing. 97 years on from hosting its inaugural race, the stadium remains a tremendous recreational asset to the people of Dublin and rural Ireland alike.

A few new names threw their name in the hat also. Bubbly Shadow returned to his best form to score in 29.24, while Da Bold Falcon flew home to win in 29.39. Grangeclare Lady, a daughter of 2021 winner Susie Sapphire, was electric in her heat, shooting clear to win in 29.43.

Aside from Bombay Pat, others to win well in the second session included Glengar Silent and Toolmaker King. The latter did things right when getting loose into the back straight to win in 29.43. Glengar Silent was a little slower but no less impressive when charging down the back straight to lead from halfway in a 29.48 success.

Honour of going fastest went to Bombay Pat as he looked every inch a Derby challenger. He blew away the opposition in Heat 6, coming home clear in 29.17. One of the young pretenders to the crown, Droopys Patriot was just a fraction slower. He would show huge dash to record a rapid 29.30, while so many other big names impressed on the night including 2024 English Derby champion De Lahdedah and the pride of the UK Proper Heiress. Hackney Corner also threw his hat into the ring, looking comfortable in a 29.43 success.

Carrick Aldo displayed huge early speed to win with a 29.42 return, while Seven Beach and Tarsna Maasai also did everything right from the front.

Twenty-four hours later, the ladies played a big part in proceedings with Magical On Fire, her kennel companion Magical Sapphire, Ballymac Danica and Lennies Dream all emerging on top. Honour of going fastest went to a new name, however, as Rolo Tokyo posted a superb 29.29.

Oaks champion A Lucky Julie followed up an encouraging opening round defeat with a victory a week later. She would storm home to win in 29.54, highlighting her wellbeing. Others to impress included Bombay Pat and Beanos Podge.

The recently established Shelbourne Park Museum and Exhibition space has proven to be a draw for greyhound racing enthusiasts and many of walk through the exhibits which document almost 100 years of greyhound histor y at this venue.

There was also a noteworthy display from Singalong Dolly. The Cesarewitch winner was a surprise absentee from the opening round draw but came in as a reserve to dominate in 29.39. Just a spot slower was Ballinabola Jim. The massive tracker had been in tremendous form in the previous weeks and again impressed, coming home clear in 29.40.

A RECORD-BREAKING DISPLAY

Proper Heiress also followed up his opening round victory, although he did need a little luck after fluffing his lines at the start. Better would come from the Mark Wallis trained star a week later.

I wish to thank owners and trainers for their assistance in facilitating the moving of the Derby to November to enable these impor tant works to be completed I also wish to thank our IRGT Ambassadors Brenda Powderly and Paul Smith and their canine companions Charlie and Jimmy for ensuring all patrons receive a warm welcome to the stadium this evening.

A CLASH TO EASE THE BLOW OF LOSING DIAMOND

As always, the remaining competitors were in action on the one night for the first time in the classic in the third round and Bockos Diamond took the opportunity to create history when lining out a red-hot favourite for the opening heat.

DIAMOND WITH A POLISHED DISPLAY AS JIM ALSO GOES FAST

Carrick Scholsey was also being spoken of as a potential Derby challenger after making a big impression in 29.42. Ballymac Axel was another to catch the eye, scoring in 29.61.

I am ver y much looking for ward to sampling the elec tric atmosphere inside Shelbourne Park as we gather to witness who succeeds last year ’s winner, The Other Kobe, in claiming the title.

PAT SETS THE STANDARD AGAIN

If the opening round was good, the second was exceptional. There were countless massive performances but that of Bockos Diamond really did set the standard. The Derby favourite absolutely flew in a facile 29.03 success, giving further warning that he was the greyhound to beat.

Ballinabola Jim also continued his incredible run of form, posting a career best effort as he dominated to stop the clock in a sizzling 29.07.

greyhound to smash the magical 29 second barrier, again justifying his billing as the one to beat in the classic.

There was no shortage of wonderful action in round three but the withdrawal of the defending champion Bockos Diamond came as a real blow. He was showing signs of a return to his brilliant best but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. He was due to race in a hot third heat that also featured his kennel companion Cheap Sandwiches and the UK challenger Proper Heiress and this duo did all they could to soften the blow of losing Bockos Diamond from the competition.

To highlight the strength of his run, runner-up Carrick Aldo was the second fastest qualifier from the entire third round.

The pair went nose to nose in a memorable battle. Both

Others to impress included Maiden Derby champion Shanahee Boomer as he dominated in 29.42, while Pat Buckley sent out two impressive trap-to-line winners, Unanimous Leo in 29.58 and Singalong Curly in 29.51. Cheque For Cash was a popular choice in the ring ahead of his heat and he proceeded to make all to see off the favourite De Lahdedah by a couple of lengths in 29.58.

Cheap Sandwiches may have suffered defeat in the third round but he was on a mission on quarter final night, once again highlighting that he was the rightful favourite for outright glory. He would get loose early in the opening heat and proceed to go quickest with a 29.27 return. Droopys Deploy would chase him home in second, some seven lengths adrift.

Just ten months after winning his 2024 semi-final in comfortable trap to line fashion in 29.13, he posted an almost identical time as he came home a mile clear in 29.14. Flawless from the outset, he ensured that he would start an odds-on favourite for this evening’s race. What was happening behind him was more dramatic, however. There had been traffic on the turn with Barefoot On Song slipping around in second, Proper Heiress third and Oreo Ollie fourth but they wouldn’t remain in that order.

To highlight how fast that run was, Magical Mag and Ballyhooly Bruno were next fastest with both winning in 29.69, some six lengths slower than Cheap Sandwiches. Magical Mag was again paw-perfect, making all to see off Happy Jet by almost four lengths, while Ballyhooly Bruno took over into the third turn from Oreo Ollie to win the final heat by a couple of lengths with Barefoot On Song sneaking through in third.

Oreo Ollie would run on strongly to go second late but was judged to have caused interference with Barefoot On Song. He was disqualified, allowing Proper Heiress to progress in fourth.

PROPER HEIRESS

PROBABLE S.P: 4-1

OWNER: M-W-D PARTNERSHIP SYNDICATE | TRAINER: MARK WALLIS | BREEDER: WILLIE O’CONNOR

This talented tracker began his career at Enniscorthy in July 2024 and was sold to the UK where he quickly became a star for champion trained Mark Wallis. A first category 1 success came at Hove in December, winning the Olympic at Hove. It wouldn’t be his last. He would return this year to win the Winter Derby at Monmore, the Kent Plate at Central Park and beat last year’s Irish Derby champ Bockos Diamond in the Juvenile at Towcester. With exceptional pace and a kind draw, he has obvious claims as he bids to become the first UK trained winner this century.

MAGICAL MAG

PROBABLE S.P: 8-1

OWNER: PATRICK GUILFOYLE | TRAINER: PATRICK GUILFOYLE | BREEDER: EOIN TROY

One of two females in the line-up, she won just one of her first five career starts but came alive during the Galway Derby in March. Still better was to come. She won four races in a row between late May and early July before impressing in defeat in a Derby prep run. After overcoming a stumble at traps in the opening round, she has been near flawless since. Wins in rounds two, three and four endeared her to many and she is again likely to prove popular this evening. A flying starter, she can race prominently and is greatly respected.

BAREFOOT ON SONG

PROBABLE S.P: 33-1

OWNER: BRYAN & KATHLEEN MURPHY | TRAINER: PAUL HENNESSY | BREEDER: MARY KENNEDY

The second female in the line-up, this lady actually has a litter of pups over a year old on the ground yet she continues to perform at the highest level. She has long been a top-class performer, winning the John Fitzgerald Memorial Open 525 at Waterford last year before adding a Limerick Oaks title to ger CV in March. She would then perform wonderfully against the dogs in the Easter Cup, eventually finishing third. She would also finish third in the Select Stakes. She may be the outsider of the field but is another fast starter and never runs a bad race.

GLENGAR SILENT(m)

PROBABLE S.P: 5-1

OWNER: TOM NOLAN | TRAINER: PAT BUCKLEY | BREEDER: GILBERT ANDERSON

The youngest finalist and potentially one of the youngest Derby winners of all time if he were to emerge on top. He will be having just his eleventh career start this evening but has already established himself as one of the fastest dogs in training. He twice won around here in the early rounds of the Juvenile Derby but the step up to 550yds for the Derby has really played to his strengths. Renowned for his incredible pace from the second bend, he will be hoping to turn as close as he did in the semis as he seeks to hand Pat Buckley a second Irish Derby success.

CHEAP SANDWICHES (w)

PROBABLE S.P: 4-7

OWNER: BARK WAHLBERG SYNDICATE | TRAINER: GRAHAM HOLLAND | BREEDER: JOSEPH O’CONNOR

Since first making his name in the 2024 Lee Strand 550 at Tralee, he has become one of the finest trackers this century. He was brilliant in last year’ Derby, eventually finishing runner-up and has been even better this year. He was an English Derby finalist in the summer before returning to win the Dundalk International in determined fashion. This evening, he will start a hot favourite in his third Derby decider and if emerging on top, will provide Graham Holland and his Riverside Kennels operation a record fifth Irish Derby success.

DROOPYS DEPLOY (w)

PROBABLE S.P: 12-1

OWNER: PAUL ALLEN | TRAINER: ROBERT G. GLEESON | BREEDER: SEAN DUNPHY

After winning a valuable unraced stake around here last September, he was always destined to have a big future. He would reach the final of the National Puppy Stake soon after but it was this year that things really began to happen. His first 2025 assignment came at Newcastle in the category 1 Northern Puppy Derby and would emerge a brilliant winner. Soon after he would reach the final of the Kirby Memorial, while also going deep in the Leger. He has a huge engine and looks overpriced in his attempt to hand Robert Gleeson a second Derby success.

A fully paid invoice from the veterinary practice that completed the treatment of the greyhound and the completed application form together with (a) a veterinary certificate of treatment issued by the ‘track vet’ at the time the injury occurred (if injury occurred during racing) or (b) a veterinary certificate of treatment issued by the veterinary surgeon who treated the greyhound on day injury occurred together with confirmation from the relevant Racing Manager/Control Steward of the occurrence of the injury (if injury occurred during Qualifying Trials), shall be submitted when applying to RCÉ for funding under this Scheme. RCÉ may require additional evidence regarding the retirement details of the greyhound prior to settling any application for funding.

Assistance funding will be set at 75% of the veterinary cost, up to a maximum of €1000 per greyhound, for the treatment of a career-ending orthopaedic (bone) injury*.

RCÉ is committed to encouraging responsible greyhound ownership and spreading the message amongst industry patrons that all racing greyhounds must be treated with care and that after racing each greyhound is afforded an opportunity to enjoy a happy retirement.

Note that all claims from the RCÉ / GRI Track Injury Recovery Scheme will be individually assessed and reviewed in detail. RCÉ / GRI reserves the right to withhold payment if it has reason to believe the claim to be fraudulent.

The Application Form for the Assistance Funding through this Scheme is available at www.grireland.ie/Resource/greyhound-welfare/injury/
